We stayed in La Casona in the height of the rainy season and were the only ones there. The room was very comfortable. We had the bathrooms to ourselves. The breakfast in the morning was great and the views of lake Arenal and the volcano were amazing. The most memorable part of the stay was the free guided morning walk...

We stayed here as part of a one-week Costa Rica trip in March 2012. The location is perfect! Even wandering the grounds is an adventure of its own. Extremely scenic. Room: we stayed at the Smithsonian room, which had an excellent view of the volcano. We set our camera up on the tripod on the balcony, and woke up at...

We spent two nights here in July 2012 and loved everything about it. The setting is absolutely spectacular. We had a Smithsonian Room that had a direct view of the volcano. As others have mentioned, the volcano is probably finished erupting for the next several hundred years. Nonetheless, it's still awesome to be that close to the volcano. What we...

We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were smaller than I had expected. We stayed in the Smithsonian room. I had expected the volcano to be showing some lava since it's in all their pictures. It hasn't had an eruption since 2010. Nevertheless, I enjoyed waking up to the view in the morning. The animal sounds from the room were great....

Spent two nights in a Smithsonian room at the Arenal Observatory Lodge. Nice place. Great views of the volcano from both the room and the dining room/lounge. Staff, meals, etc were all great. The only drawback, if you can call it that, is the remote location. It's a $30 taxi ride to anywhere - each way. If you don't have...

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. This is a bit more pricey than other options in in the main town, it is also quite a ways off the "main area" around Arenal. None the less, your greeted professionaly and kindly (despite a bit of a wait for my room to be ready) it was well worth...

Arenal Observatory Lodge is located in the middle of Arenal Volcano National Park, which has it's pros and cons. Pros - wild, exotic surroundings, lots of hiking paths and opportunities for wildlife spotting, cons - far from everything - 8 km drive on a rocky road, challenging even for a 4x4 vehicle. You're pretty much stuck after dusk and the...

We had a Smithsonian Room with a beautiful view of the volcano; even got a very small show from it on our last morning there. Restaurant is good, service was excellent all-around. Pool / hot-tub seemed quite nice, but only spent an hour or so there - not crowded at all, at least during the green season. Definitely would visit...

We stayed here six days and had an amazing time. I can't say enough good things about it. We stayed in a Standard Room. It didn't have a direct view of the volcano, but you don't need it -- there are plenty of places to see it around the property. The grounds are beautiful, the view of the volcano and Arenal...

We had a great stay at this hotel. The staff was very helpful, especially Estaban at the front desk. Don't be deterred by the drive to get here. It's well worth it. No other place can offer the views of the volcano and lake like this one. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
