Less than 24 hours after booking our reservation, we called the hotel to solicit cancelation. They reimbursed one person from our party 100%, but only agreed to reimburse the other person 50%. Our booking and cancelation attempts were only minutes apart. Yet they want to charge over $500 for a stay that is not going to be used. During phone conversations with them, the hotel staff repeatedly changed their "facts," overtly contradicting themselves and persisting in dishonesty. The tipping point was when the owner, Teresa, began screaming and insulting us while she refused to reimburse the remaining 50%. After being treated like that, we don't feel comfortable conceding and staying there. Essentially, they are going to get away with over $500 after only offering the service of treating potential clients very poorly.

My boyfriend and I visited the Lodge last April. I have been meaning to get on here to rave about our experience for over a year. We had the most perfect visit! Our chalet was clean and comfortable. Waking up to the view of the lush landscape and view was a memorable experience. The owners Freddy and Maria were very friendly, enlightening us with their knowledge of the area. We went on a beautiful hike on the property and it felt like we were in the secret gardens of Eden with streams and plant life. We also had wonderful time horseback riding around the property. The meals were delicious and reasonably priced. We are longing to return!

My husband and I visited here 15 years ago. We loved it so much that we brought our entire family of 15 here to experience the area and this incredible lodge. The lodge is an authentic open air design with beautiful wood timbers. The pool and hot tubs have great views. We rented the chalets that have a majestic view of the volcano. To awaken to that view is spiritual! The owners are lovely and most accommodating. Freddy trained in Culinary School in France so every meal was exceptional. His wife is lovely….she embodies the spirit of Arenal Lodge. I cannot say enough about the staff at Arenal Lodge. They are very eager to please and friendly. There is no way to describe the setting for this lodge. The rainforest adorns it and becomes part of it. We had children with us and they were welcomed to entertain themselves with board games, fusball and pool. This experience is just what I dreamed of when returning with our family!

Due to a booking issue with another hotel, we booked the lodge the same day as check-in. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Grounds were beautiful and jacuzzi was amazing and private. We book a horse trail ride last minute and had a private tour. Wi-fi worked great. Hotel is 25 minutes from town and drink prices were a little more expensive than other restaurants, but it didn’t bother us. Recommend you have your own vehicle if you stay here, otherwise it gets expensive for a taxi or yours charge extra for pick-up. The room we were in was rustic and did not have a mini fridge.

This resort is a hidden gem. The staff is so friendly, inviting, and accommodating. The peace you will experience as you explore the property is priceless. The chef is creative and the plates were consistently packed with local flavor. Many activities are offered on site and kept us busy all 3 days here. The wildlife and native vegetation were a rememberable and picture worthy. Prices were amazing for the experience. Views of the volcano were breath taking. Waking up each morning with local coffee and views of this Jungle rainforest were only in second place to the lullabies of the native tropical sounds easing you to slumber.

We visited with a group of 15 people. From the moment we arrived we were family. Beautiful rooms facing the volcano with breath taking views. 2000 acres of hiking trails, birds, flowers, monkeys, horses, and tranquility. Prices for spa and horseback riding were affordable and more than worth it. The food for both breakfast and dinner was fresh, stimulated my palate, and great portions for the price. The drinks were cold and plentiful. Try the Azul lagoon. I cannot say enough about the beauty and peace this resort brought our group. We will be back!

The Arenal Lodge’s setting in the rain forest provides an incredible view of the Arenal Volcano. The outdoor deck provides a wonderful place to have breakfast or a drink and witness one of nature’s great phenoms. Built on the grounds of former 800 acre plantation this rustic lodge provides a very cozy and charming atmosphere for travellers. The rooms are not pretentious offering the basic amenities although the chalets apparently are quite amazing. On the grounds are two lovely walking trails one of which takes you through the forest highlighting the flora of the region and to a former macadamia processing station. Inside you will find a history of the volcanoes 1968 surprise eruption. While there you can relax in the infinity pool and hot tubs relaxing . We enjoyed an evening playing cards in the bar while others played pool. It was truly a lodge experience. Before leaving we went horseback riding from the stables located onsite. We rode high up on the property arriving at another spectacular view of the Volcano and Lake Arenal. The stay at the Lodge was a highlight of our visit the Arenal Volcano National Park.

From the moment we arrived at Arenal Lodge, we knew we had chosen a truly unique experience. A weathered and winding cobblestone road (that Freddy built himself) leads you fifteen minutes up a mountain and immerses you into the jungle. Freddy and Terry, who are quite the hilarious, accommodating and friendly duo, greeted us in the lobby and offered one of the most sincere welcomes we’ve ever experienced. Since the chalets are located further up the cobblestone road from the main lodge, Freddy kindly drove us and our luggage to our room. We stayed in the newly built “honeymoon suite” even though it wasn’t our honeymoon. Equipped with a king sized bed, jacuzzi, huge shower, his and her sinks, a private patio and a personal jungle path to the lodge, this suite sure made us feel like we were on a honeymoon! The best part about this chalet is the full wall of windows - the sunrise over Arenal Volcano is something out of a fairy tale. From both the lodge and the individual chalets, get ready to see exquisite up close and personal views of Arenal Volcano and the lake. But there are other treasures to be explored on this vast property as well! Jungle trails lead you through gardens and weathered architecture that are reminiscent of a lost civilization. Swim in the infinity pool or reserve a time to use the two jacuzzis that overlook the volcano. There is also a small gym, horses available to ride, a foosball table, and you will most certainly see a plethora of wild life wondering the grounds (especially birds!) Because Arenal Lodge is approximately half an hour to La Fortuna, we would recommend having your own vehicle to get around. We had no issues finding drivers to bring us to and from, but it did take us extra time and money than we would have liked. If you ask for help finding a driver at the front desk, they will most certainly assist you. We would also recommend bringing your own beverages (if you enjoy them), although you can certainly purchase beer or wine at the lodge and bring it to your room (to enjoy in your personal jacuzzi). If you’re considering staying at Arenal Lodge, just book it! You will not be disappointed. We were so happy to have a true jungle experience rather than stay in the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna. If you’re a nature lover, enjoy privacy and quiet, want a romantic getaway (or a family friendly one), and like to fall asleep to rain - this is the best option out there! Freddy, Terry - thank you for being awesome and beyond hospitable. Thank you for sharing your vision and dreams about building Arenal Lodge, along with the history of the land. And thank you for making our experience in La Fortuna truly exceptional!

The owner of this place is unprofessional and not respectful at all: - On the very first day of our stay, she mixed up a booking tour of another room with ours and got mad at me until she realized it. She did not even apologize for her behavior. - Few minutes later, I was asking for my gluten free bread ordered in advance and confirmed by the hotel on the confirmation booking (I am coeliac). They did not have anything and instead of just admitting it, she reply to me “I don’t look at the booking form…!! “ AND she insulted me on my back few seconds later calling me a BITCH in their kitchen with all her staff around. I was so chocked by such behavior…My husband got really mad and when she came to us few minutes later, she just said “try to be an example for your kids”. When you can’t listen to your customers, respect them and treat them well; when you can’t be a good manager and be an example to your staff, I personally think it is time for retirement. If you consider going to this place for its lovely location, my advice is the following: AVOID THIS STRESSED OUT OWNER and MANAGE your PLANS ON YOUR OWN. She is USELESS.
