Our SSAW room was big and very attractive. A big bath, attractive bathroom and separate shower and toilet cubicles. Good big bed and attractive bedroom kitted out in dark timber. The whole hotel was good looking (if strangely dark) with a S.E. Asian sort of decor. Staff very helpful. Tariff very reasonable for what you get. Not on the Bund...

I recommend this hotel as a stylish, reasonably priced and well located retreat in Shanghai. The decor is lovely. The bathroom spacious and stylish. The breakfasts, fantastic value. The staff are helpful and speak English well. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the Bund and is well located for walking to the Shanghai Museum, the Yuyuan Gardens and Xintiandi....

I have stayed here multiple times on trips to Shanghai and I love the excellent SSAW rooms on the high floors with their big bath tubs and Asian modern decor. I paid a premium to book a SSAW room again through Expedia, but on arrival I was given a very sub-standard room on 2/F with no tub and not at...

Dear Mr. Noooby, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. My colleagues never lied to you when they said that the rooms on the 2nd floor are also SSAW rooms. The one we originally assigned to you was definitely a SSAW room, but the lay out is different to the ones on the high floor due...

Room: perfect. Confortable. include LCD TV, air condition or heater, free water and hot coffee and tea. Our 1st room didn´t have a nice view and we request at lobby to change. They checked and change us without any doubt. Nice restaurant and a terrace. You can eat at hotel or behind. Perfect Location also!.

It is a perfect option in Shanghai located three blocks away from a subway station and at walking distance to Yu Garden. Right in the heart of Shanghai, walking distance to a lot of attractions and near a subway stop, this is a great place to stay for tourists. The rooms were clean and very good for the cost, although they could have used some drawers. The breakfast was fantastic. Overall a great value.

Mr. Wim went above and beyond to assist us. He should be promoted to upper management. The hotel was reasonably priced in an excellent location very near the subway, Yu Gardens, and the southern portion of the Bund.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the streets that serve as the border to the old city. An aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan (which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists every day, but wandering the streets around the complex reveals more exciting attractions such as food and antique markets. There are also streets lined with shops peddling everyday wares such as Chinese dining ware and craft notions that can be even more enticing to visitors uninterested in the usual tourist fare.
