My recent stay at this hotel in April, is not the first one. Entering the hotel, the scent you get is very nice. The importance of this is that in China such scents are unusual to be experienced due to people do not paying much attention to it. The lobby is full of fresh green plants and you get a...

We loved being right on the bund though we weren't especially close to the subway which is vital in Shanghai. Our room had a great view but the room its self was not so special. The service and options for basic things like coffee was almost non existent. That said the price for such a location was not exorbitant.

The best view in Shanghai! Great location, AMAZING view, make sure you choose a riverfacing room when you book. It's an amazing place but it has some traditional chinese traits which include loudness, unsmiling reception and areas that smell of smoke. Smoking however is banned since march 2017 in all public areas and will change. The cleaning isn't great. Always...

Hotel is placed in very good area with the view to the river and Bund. I think the hotel is pretty old and it was visible from the first sight. But the view from room was amazing. I would appreciate more western food for the breakfast. I appreciate friendly staff. I recommend this for the tourists who are looking for...

Stayed in this hotel during 1st week of Nov for 2 nights. 1. Very convenient as the hotel is walking distance to the Bund. 2. It is also within walking distance to many restaurants and cafes. 3. The room is also clean and spacious. 4. The bed is also very comfortable. i will recommend this hotel for stay in Shanghai.

Probably the worst hotel I visited in my whole life. Since the hotel is old, the smell of smoke is stuck to the carpets and the rooms just stink. After the first night I asked the reception to ask the cleaning staff to use air freshener but nothing happened. Then, after the second night I discovered that if I leave...

Stayed for 1 night for business. The view was great facing the Bund. The room was ok, not small but not big. Breakfast and wifi was ok. Location was across the bridge from the Bund and Nanjing Rd around 15 min walk to find restaurants and shopping areas. We didn't get to see much of the hotel since we checked...

The rooms are clean and reasonably spacious, with sitting chairs, a desk and small table in addition to the usual furniture. The views of the Bund and the river are fantastic. The breakfasts are a mixture of mostly Chinese dishes (cabbage, fried rice, fried noodles, rice gruel, stewed tomatoes...) and western (bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit). It was one...

Did not stay here but shared a great evening with friends at the riverside bar. Great place for a sundowner in Shanghai with the bustle of the Bund . Local beer good and a big cocktail list prices reasonable for the area

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
