Stayed here 2 nights on a tour. My floor was empty of any patrons so gave a creepy feeling. The rooms are old and creepy. NO ONE speaks English so if you need any help you are out of luck. Dark and dingy. Breakfast was ok.

Stayed 2 nites. Located in the French concession area. Large rooms. Old style decor. Available Internet and American tv channels. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast included and good variety. Next to hilton and the shanghai hotel. Metro just a short 10 minute walk to jiang an park. Lots of eateries across the street or walk 10 minutes for subway and... More

They've made this really difficult to find online by adding "Jinjiang Shanghai" to the front of the name recently. And, bizarrely, there's a separate - and much more prominent - listing on TripAdvisor for the hotel "ballroom". Further confusion may arise from the fact that many sites have a separate listing for the Jing'An's "New Building" (although you have to... More

This hotel is conveniently located in the busy Jing'An Temple area, not far from shopping malls and a ten-minute walk into the French Concession area. The hotel has a storied history: About twenty years ago this used to be the only hotel in the area. Now things have changed: you can either stay here, a few ultra-luxury properties a few... More

This is probably the least expensive "hotel" that I stay in Shanghai. Thank god I only stay for a night. The Good: The location is unbeatable, right in the middle of the city in Jing An district. Can't ask for more with RMB300 a night. The Bad: It is a very very old and not well kept hotel...can't really say... More

This review is for the "new" wing of the hotel, which is tucked away in the back, as opposed to the "old" wing, which actually exudes the old Shanghai. Not much to rave about, other than that the rate is super low for being so centrally located. I was greeted by an escort business card on the floor, the moment... More

This is an older hotel and it looks it. It resembles an older apartment building. It does not have a grand feel like some older hotels but it is not totally devoid of charm. The rooms are large compared to other 4 star Chinese Hotels, but the furniture & carpeting is worn & weathered. The location is good with lots... More

I was directed to stay at the Jing An Hotel by my Shanghai hosts, who frequently commented on how historic and unique it is. Compared to the next door Hilton, as well as the dozens of western chain properties all around central Shanghai, that was certainly true. The building dates from the early 1930's, designed in a pseudo-Spanish style. The... More

This is an older western style hotel from the 20s/30s in the French Concession area of Shanghai... It has a great location and a bit charming! Right where you want to stay.. Our room was clean, spacious, quiet, and comfortable.. Outside of the hotel are several other large chain hotels and several wonderful shopping areas/streets..

I would really give this hotel 2 points, however, I am giving it 3 only because some of the staff is nice. I had to ask for rooms over and over again because of smoke. The rooms or the bathroom were seemingly clean, but there were major issues. The hotel apologized but I had to make a deal and I... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
