Rock&Wood is a decent hostel, but is in a terrible location. By public transport it takes around 30-40 minutes to get into the heart of Shanghai. The street the hostel is on isn’t well lit and is a bit dodgy at night. Our twin ensuite...More
As hostels go this is a good example. The building is clean and modern (has a very nice garden area). The hostel is about a 10 minute was from the metro station and about 20-30 minute walk to a large shopping mall. Staff are helpful...More
I was in Shanghai for two nights and this hostel worked as the perfect base for exploring the city. It's really easy to get to from the airport, and is about a ten minute walk from a shopping center and train station. Some reviews mentioned...More
We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms that front the "backyard" courtyard during a 24-hour layover in Shanghai. Though it isn't a central location by any means, the surrounding area offers a good sense of life on the city. The walk to the Yan'nan...More
The lobby and outside area of the hostel is truly beautiful - with wooden chairs and numerous couches in the lobby a little buddhist altar at the entrance, and a courtyard with running water, rocks, and bamboo plants, this place has a calming effect. Soft...More
The residential and commercial areas around the beautiful grounds of Zhongshan Park have never been considered particularly fashionable by a majority of Shanghai’s foreign residents, but plenty of expats do choose to live here. The park itself is a huge draw, providing a pocket of serenity in the middle of the metropolis. The area has its share of trendy shops with wares that can’t be found elsewhere, delicious
restaurants with food ranging from fancy to affordable, and great hidden bars. Rents are also cheaper here than in other neighborhoods with the same conveniences. Aside from the obvious attractions, with its neighborhood fix-anything shops and pop-up street stalls that sell anything you need, you’ll never sacrifice Western comforts.
