... that concludes the positive part. It would have been a 4 star rating if it was priced like a hostal but it is not: at nearly 100gbp, the price is a joke for this place. Filthy room, nothing works, crap everywhere, no paper in the toilet, too hot with no working airco, so noisy by the family above us...

Great little place, with gorgeous little rooms. This place is all dark wood and charm!. Not many amenities, but it's not that type of hotel. It definitely has that B&B feel to it. They don't speak English but they are helpful and friendly. Perfect location.

This is a solid B&B. It's quite bare bones, and no one speaks English. It's a great location in terms of neighborhood, but a little far from the subways. Here are the specs: Location: southern French Concession. Nice neighborhood, walking distance from Yongkang Road, which has a lot of restaurants, coffee shops and bars frequented by young Shanghainese and expats....

I stay there 3 nights, worst experience. Actually, it is not a hotel, just a small and old b&b. There are no services, not accept VISA, MASTER card. I book it through China travel, mentioned included breakfast, but be informed that no breakfast provided when I arrived in order to restaurant renovation. In my 2nd day, hotel start fr 7:15am...

Reception, excepted the albeit reception desk young girl, no english speaking, but it was ok we could communicate. Spacious and luminous room view on their restaurant patio recovered liked a green house. Spacious bed! The bathroom needs some serious renovation for the plumbing, they should choose a pro for the work. water linkings ruined the wall etc... the toilet due...

Great location, in the middle of the French locations. Plenty of smal shops, restaurants and pubs at walking distance. After 10 years travelling in China, I discovered this very small hotel only recently and now stays there each time I can. Old colonial house renovated with the latest tech and confort , beautifuly decorated with vintage furnitures. I love it...

This is a small hotel in a fantastic location in the middle of Shanghai. The rooms are extremely well furnished and you can feel that care and attention has been paid on each room individually. rather than having a generic feel to the place (as with other 'boutique' hotels in China), this place actually feels small, cozy and welcoming. Care...

Quietish area .Quirky traditional rooms, a nice mix of old and modern. No lift so the upper rooms wouldn't be accessible to anyone with mobility problems. Hardly any English spoken so if our guide hadn't been with us at book in we wouldn't have had a clue about breakfast time or other information. Breakfast itself was appalling, there was no...

I will be back, great Shanghai neighborhood. Even a Starbucks couple blocks away. Restaurants, bars, shopping abound. My room is on third floor, interior is old china while bathroom is very well updated. Staff is very helpful, they do not speak english so need to make communication simple.

On the positive side, good central location (10/15min to subway but very easy with taxi), the decoration was quite traditional and original. On the negative side: breakfast only between 8-9 and very bad so forget about it. The personal was not very friendly and not that helpful. 50% of the time there is noone at the reception. Finally, it was...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
