My wife and I stayed here on our recent visit for 7 days initially, and then 4 days after visiting Beijing. The hotel is located within 100m or so from the subway station (exit No. 4) and is 50m from East Nanjing Road and about 700m from the Bund. We ran to the Bund several times early morning and if you are a runner it is a great experience. There are plenty of places for breakfast or dinner if needed and we had the Hotel brekky on our second stay and it was good, fresh with plenty to choose from. The hotel gym is also quite good, bikes, treadmills etc. and good selection of free weights to choose from. Didn't check out the spa or sauna, forgot about them. Our room was comfortable, very spacious and clean and we were lucky it faced the East Nanjing Road. It was nice watching people wandering around shopping and having fun. The bed and pillows were outstanding I must say. Also had a little deli over the road which had staples plus a good beer selection. PROS: Great location, close to subway, small shops for essentials and to shopping and the Bund. Plenty of places nearby to eat and you can spend your evenings walking Ninjing Road choosing where to eat. Rooms were clean, spacious and well maintained. Good internet speeds too. CONS: Nothing really, there is a Green initiative in place when we visited meaning our air cond. was not able to be turned on unless outside temp exceeded 24 deg or something. Anyway all rooms have windows which open and the fresh air nightly was very nice and for us was preferred over air cond. Some street noise may bother some people but not us.
Overall: We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would stay there again without hesitation. Well done to all staff who made us feel very welcome.

Snow Ye is one of the most unprofessional, rude and arrogant people I have come across in hospitality in a long time. I was shocked to hear he is a Guest Relations Manager. It would be interesting to know how he got the position since he certainly does not have the necessary skills. He does not perform well under pressure (stressed under pressure during a busy time), raises good voice at guests, cuts them off and speaks over them condescendingly. Absolute disregard for service, care and guest well being. He is in serious need of training and should not be in a guest facing position.

Apart from the bad apple, checking in and out went smoothly, housekeeping was good, lovely large room with good bed and linen. Good towels and shower pressure. All round pleasant stay at a centrally located hotel apart from one person who can sour things greatly and make one choose a different hotel in future. Fortunately there are many in the area in the price range.

Please consider USB ports in the rooms to charge devices as most hotels now have.

This is my first visit to Shanghai but I'm very pleased I chose the Grand Central. This classic 5* hotel in walking distance from the famous historical landmarks and tourist destinations such as the beautiful People's square and Shanghai Museum. Although it is a busy hotel, the manager and reception has time to welcome you and provide advice to any tourist questions about amazing Shanghai!

OOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...
Especially abroad and alone whilst travelling, there are plenty of other hotels out there that will value your time and opinion. There is nothing here that will make your trip extra special nor is there anything available here that makes this a hotel worth considering.

It looks the same in the photos, but it's different in person. The rooms have carpets with a very strong cigarette smell.

Service from the concierge staff is very good, but the reception staff leaves something to be desired.

Breakfast food has no variation. Every day it's the same menu, bad for those who stay more than 2 days.

I was surprised to discover that the hotel's air conditioning was centrally controlled and only turned on when the outside temperature reached a certain threshold (~30°C). My room was warm and stuffy, and the small fan provided by the front desk was insufficient. Despite the hotel's relatively high price, I was disappointed with the level of service. However, things improved when I spoke with the front desk manager, Snow Ye (叶宇辰). Snow was friendly, helpful, and professional, showing genuine empathy and kindness. He tried to help me cancel my stay and secure a full refund, but unfortunately, it wasn't possible. He did manage to provide an extra fan for the room, and my friend and I decided to stay for the two nights we had planned. While I wouldn't choose to stay at this hotel again, Snow Ye's exceptional service left a lasting positive impression. His attitude and dedication will undoubtedly serve him well in any profession he pursues!

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in July 2023. It's centrally located, just 5 mins walk from Nanjing Road walking street and 15 mins from the Bund. Rooms are spacious & clean. Breakfast was reasonably elaborate. Had some vegetarian options. They have an indoor swimming pool with attached jacuzzi, sauna & steam room. Overall good for the price of USD 130 per night.

Overall, the hotel is not bad. Great location. I really didn't like the service at the reception desk. Especially Jacky Wang's manager. I arrived at 12.30, there were a lot of rooms available, but he wanted to charge me for earlier check-in. I had to wait until 14.00 to get in without additional payment. But the worst thing was at the check-out. I accidentally lost my second plastic room card. And this Jacky Wang did not return the deposit to me and forced me to pay 60 rmb (10 USD) for this card! A terrible employee and an unpleasant story. I have returned only one card 100 times at check-out and no hotel has ever charged money for it. Be careful

Nice hotel a bit retro 'between carpet and chandeliers. Tactically well coughed: a step away from Nanjing road to access the shopping street and the Shanghai skyline and the subway stop to move at reduced costs in the territory (45 minutes to international airport for 1 euro!). Sauna and Turkish bath free even if poorly managed.

Very nice and comfortable hotel, great as everything in Shanghai. Rooms instead not very large but quiet, clean, comfortable and technological. Breakfast is international with a wide variety of products and good quality. We did not use the pool and restaurant which I can not therefore evaluate. Overall definitely recommended
