Very Bad Experience, here's the pros and cons Cons: - Staff doesn't speak English well. The hotel is near the main road and directly at a metroststion. The map on tripadvisor shows a different location however. The entrance is on the backside. We first got a smoker room and then asked to get a non smoker roome. They upgraded us to larger non smoking room. The room had some old fashioned furniture, the bathroom was... More

Stayed here for a couple of days on an official visit to Shanghai. The hote is pretty close to the main areas of Shanghai. The rooms are cosy option between smoking/non smoking. The tv mainly has Chinese channels , hence pl try and get your own entertainment mechanisms. The bathroom is clean and has a small bathtub. The rooms are... More

This is a great hotel for a great price. It's not 5-star and not 4-star but 3.5 star reflect the it well. And for roughly ~$100 AUD/per night you are getting a nice room, nice brekky with egg station, espresso machine for real coffee in the morning. They have a gym that looked great (but I haven't tried) and they... More

Hotel was ok but a little dated. Air conditioning poor and did not cool the room at all. Only single glazing so get a lot of noise expecially as construction site near by which starts work about 5am. Beds very hard and uncomfortable. Right next to a metro station so easy to get to town

My company recommended this or a cheaper one, but this one was quite affordable. So, I wasn't expecting much. Instead, I opened my room door to: -huge bed -clean and spacious room -great bathroom -soft pillows -spacious desk -soft towels Also, it was very convenient to everything. And the Japanese/Korean restaurant turned out to be one of the best deals... More

I have stayed in this hotel 4 or 5 times because I can walk to my work site when I am in Shanghai and the business rate is very good in this expensive city. It is right next to Fudan Medical College, so this is where the visiting professors and researchers stay. The area is easy for a non-chinese speaker... More

A good hotel. good location with nearby 24 hrs convenient shop and metro station just few steps away. The room is a bit dated but clean and comfortable. They even provide turn down service and chocolate at night. The front desk officer are always helpful to answer questions.

I always book flights and hotel on hipmunk.com due to extreme convenience (try it!). This time my host, SJTU, booked the hotel. It is a very clean and comfortable setting with only a couple of drawbacks for me. First, the bed is very firm, so this is hard on a side sleeper like myself. Second, the dinner menu has no... More

I stayed here twice on business for a few nights. There's nothing wrong with the place, though a bit oldish maybe, smoking everywhere and not too much of restaurants and entertainment, but rooms and service are great and the price is very low.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
