This hotel could be great. It's location is perfect, the staff could not be nicer and more helpful, and the rooms are simple yet tasteful. The building, while old, is quite atmospheric and generally we enjoyed our stay. The main issue was the lack of attention to small detail. There was no complimentary water (all other hotels in China have...

The Old House Inn is a great spot. All of the modern conveniences and style you would expect from a large hotel chain minus the sterilized, corporate feel. The staff are the best part - Tina and Nikki were always going out of their way to help us with directions, writing instructions for the cab in Mandarin for us, and...

I stayed at a twin room for a night in January. It's not a fancy hotel but more like a tasteful flat with style. The kind of place where you feel like you are actually living in there when you get inside of the room after a day. Some furniture need some repair but the bathroom is very clean. The...

Upon arrival we were welcomed by Nikki and made to feel at home. The spacious room had a four poster bed. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was simple but perfect -- great coffee. The restaurant next door appears at first to be pretentious but in fact is outstanding. If you are looking for a B&B with...

We spent a week in Shanghai and stayed at the Old House Inn for the duration. It is set well back from the busy, manic main road, and fortunately is quiet. The staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly. English can be a little limited but we mostly communicated fine. The hotel is small, 12 rooms all containing old style...

We stayed here as the first stop on our five week tour of China during which we tried to book hotels with Character wherever possible; the Old House definitely fitted into that category. On the edge of the French Concession, the location was excellent with plenty of restaurants in the immediate area and two tube (subway) stations within easy (10/15...

A real hidden gem of a hotel located on the edge of the french concession area. It has been decorated in a traditional Chinese way and had bags of character, was very clean and had good bathroom facilities, the only downside was the bed, it was like sleeping on a slab of concrete but that's the same all over China...

After some business trips within China I was pleased to stay in an old fashioned but nice hotel. Location is good, rooms are nice and quiet. Everything is decorated in a pleasant way. Staff is friendly. The breakfast was ok, the salad in the restaurant really good. In sum it was a good hotel. Especially for people woho like the...

“The suites were bigger but not as pretty. However suites had clothes washers and were probably quieter because not above restaurant.”
