The imposing flight of steps leading to the cool balcao and onto the foyer and lounge of this impecibally and lovingly maintained old Portuguese mansion, sets the tone of comfort and elegance at the Palacete Rodrigues. The lounge takes you back in time - furnished as it is with intricately carved polished furniture, jardinières and china wall plates. Pedestal mounted chandeliers and plants galore add to the unique charm of this delightful guest house.

During my last travel to Goa, I stayed at this place. The place was quite like I thought it would be.. It was situated near to Anjuna beach on Anjuna - Mapusa main Road.. To reach the place, ask directions for Dominoz Pizza on Anjuna -Mapusa road and from there it is just 2 minutes walk. But i did not quite like the room we were given. I thought i booked for AC suite but I got only a AC double room as mentioned in the voucher. Staff was very helpful and attentive to our needs and even helped us to keep our belongings for some extra time after our checkout.. If you are antique lover, you should visit this place which was built centuries ago and enjoy the antique furnitures and other things on show there. Breakfast, unlike mentioned in some other review though lacking choices, was good. Check for the flush tanks, the room in which i was staying had a problem with efficient flushing.. I would surely visit this place back at the same prices..

We stayed for two nights in the month of Feb..the rooms are big n nicely furnished.. The house overall has a good feel.. But thats about it..there is nothing else..no toiletries or tea bags or coffee sachets there is a nice store called orchard near the hotel which stacks just About everything so v were saved... Bcoz in the price I expected that much... They provide fixed breakfast n keep repeating that u will get only one portion :-)...however the chef is extremely good.. Whatever v ate was freshly cooked n very Delicious... Distance from good shacks n beach is not that much.. The hotel arranged an activa @ 300 a day..so v could easily commute...

My husband and I arrived in Mapusa after a grueling 16 hours on the overnight bus from Mumbai (during an unseasonal cyclone). Mapusa's not much to look at but I'd heard it wasn't far to Anjuna, about which all I knew was that it's famous for old school hippies and the Wednesday flea market. I opened the ubiquitous Lonely Planet guide to look for a last minute accommodation idea and saw a small note on Palacete Rodrigues saying nothing much except it was charming and full of antiques. On arrival we were met by the wonderful 85 yr old Iria da Costa waving cheerily and assuring us of a room. Iria and her daughter Janet run this beautiful villa - its their family home - about 400 years old and it is charming, full of random nooks, antiques and thoughtful touches like the little chess table next to a window looking out on the small courtyard that the house surrounds. Our room was very large, with a small lounge area and fridge (with coca cola and bottled water available on request for a very low fee), our own bathroom with a toilet, shower with hot water (although not in great supply - but thats pretty normal for India) it was cleaned and our sheets changed everyday - they also took care of our laundry (which we obviously paid extra for, but again, not much). When my husband was sick they made him special tea and plain rice! They also have internet acces. We paid about 1500INR a night for our large room with air conditioning, but there are smaller rooms, and a great family option in a separate house on the property. They also have their own security guard and a funny little dog. Literally around the corner there's a small supermarket and we had no trouble hiring a scooter from a local for 200INR per day. There is a street full of cafes and stalls and the beach and markets only a couple of minutes away. From this small town which was peaceful, and laidback we were easily able to ride our scooter up and down the northern coast on day trips or shorter trips (safely through the back roads) to all the more touristy locations fancier restaurants, busier, whiter beaches forts etc. and inland exploring. Its not fancy or modern, but it is a home away from home.

Palacete Rodrigues, about a few furlongs away from the Anjuna beach is a beautiful ancient palace/museum sort of a structure with European style rooms and serene huts in an exquisite garden. There is also a pool and poolside tables, hammock and benches to sit around with friends and chat up, basking in the moonlight till wee hours.

This place has great service and good food for the prices specified. The staff was helpful and friendly.

This place is located closer to shops, ATMs and at a walkable distance to the beach. So, accessibility to all sides of Anjuna were convenient and it was completely worth the money and added a lot more to our frolic stay in Goa.

While living in Anjuna this is the place where we arrange for our parents to stay. It has character by the bucket load and is in a cute historical Portuguese villa. All the rooms are unique and there are quirky antiques everywhere. This place is full of heritage and character. Staff are polite and eager to please, rooms are comfortable and have everything you need, the pool area is nice and the food was great and we thought it was great value for money.Hotel is 2km or so from the beach but motorbike hire is cheap and easy or you can get a taxi and being further away from the beach means a quieter stay away from the noise of the parties. Staff are only too happy to help out. Love this place!

I've been there for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay. Breakfast in the Garden, big bed, antique furniture. Old Villa like in past times. Beach is 20 min walking distance away but you have nice vegan coffee shops on main road to beach. Personal is very nice. Very helpful.

My husband and I are quite adventurous and don't mind roughing it by staying at cheap places, however, this place was terrible. From the moment we walked into this place we realized we had made a bad choice. The bedrooms are a breeding ground for mosqitos, the mattress killed our backs, and the bathrooms were scary! The hotel is also located too far from the beach- you need a scooter to get there. There are so many cheap options in Goa...you don't need to stay at this place!

On their behalf- they did arrange to get us a scooter which was nice, and did keep our passports safe.

Service was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Kitchen was minimal. Room was excellent-classically beautiful and with full facilities. Comfortable bed. Prices were a little high but not too ridiculously so. Security was great. Swimming pool was too small to be useful. Overall it was a great place to stay.

We stayed here for about 10 days and loved it. The suites are beautiful and so spacious. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever experienced. They were huge, could sleep three people easily and the mattress and pillows were perfect. The service was excellent, you just had to ask and it was taken care of in a few minutes. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Goa, you truly experience Goan hospitality and service at its best.

we were booked here for five days- recomended by Lonely Planet as 'quirky'.
In our experience the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful
The hotel is located at least 2 km from the beach.
The room was not cleaned or serviced in four days.
We left after four days
How this establishement is rated above 1 star is a mystery - we paid over £50 a night - much better value to stay in a beach hut!
