The biggest advantage of the guest house is that it is near to major landmarks such as park street, jeevandeep and New Market. The major locations are in walking distance or yellow taxi can be taken. However the place for stay is ordinary and breakfast is problem, if you are vegetarian. The GH can be used for quick stay and solo Travellers looking for budget
It's a very old property, maintained well but need some changes, like beds, toilets etc needs to be changed, rooms are very big, at central of Kolkata it is unexpected. Service is okay but there is nothing to eat in breakfast. For business tour it is okay.
A very good restaurant, but our hotel room was not so good. Beds were hard as rocks. We got an extra bed - which was a door with linen. Some rough nights were spent on this ‘bed’. The service was... interesting... we ordered drinkable water but got water bottles which were already opened. Nice location.
British time architecture though modified a bit. Huge windows, high doors, high ceilings reminding you of the old world. Upkeep could be better. Simply superb location with shopping, dining, nightlife, commute, almost everything a few minutes walk. One of the prime locations in Kolkata. Service great. Neat and clean.
Chowdhury Estate's Guest House (CGH) is located in one of the best rated prime areas of Kolkata - 55, Chowringhee Road. It is housed in an elegant colonial building with lavish lobbies, strong wooden staircase, high ceiling to name a few. It creates an awesome effect as such things are considered luxury today. The room too are quite big in size. The hotel provides free WiFi, ample parking area and 24 hours front desk. Complimentary breakfast is provided in Maharaja Restaurant which is situated on the ground floor of the adjoining building in the same premises. Overall we had a comfortable stay here.
This hotel is a low budget place, located in the heart of the city. Good for students/individuals going to Kolkata for entrance exams and interviews, and staying there for a day or two. The place needs an urgent make over, as the present "heritage tag" that its advertising is just to cover up their lack of basic maintenance/upkeep. Staff is quite cooperative, and their services ok. To avoid street noise, choose a room on the inner corridor, higher up on their floor. Especially if one wants to study, just before exams. Girls and women may prefer to stay as a group or on sharing basis, while staying here for writing exams or appearing for interviews. More safe that way, as well as saving on hard earned money too.
First of all it's a guest house not any estate. There's a huge difference in the pics of the rooms and other areas given on the booking websites and in reality. This guest house is full of surprises and can't be compared with hotel or home stay. There's a restaurant outside which provides room service and when it is closed, No room service at all, even water bottle and tea. For water bottle, their servants will charge premium on MRP. No iron or laundry service is available inside, so in case of any emergency you are gone. Breakfast (complimentary) was average and you will get bread toast, idli wada, fruits, juice, corn flakes, poori bhaji, tea. Location was nearby to Birla Planetarium, St. Paul's Cathedral, Victoria Memorial, all at walking distance. This is the only positive of this property. Wi fi was complimentary buy the speed I was getting was 315 kbps. Don;t assume that, if you are paying that hefty price (online prices) and looking at the pics, you are going to enjoy your stay. For just an overnight transit stay it's ok but I will suggest better look for something else in this price range. Rest is up to individual's nature of stay, liking , convenience and budget.…
its someones old estate turned into a guest house. its almost like a maze how they take you from one area/building to another. one life goes halfway the other lift takes u the other half of the way. its really an experience. but i loved how many plants and paintings they had everywhere. the rooms were big and spacious. running hot water.. good acs. and its pretty central too. the breakfast at the maharaja hotel is pretty minimal and so-so but fair enough.
I chose this Hotel because it was close to my branch office in Kolkata . What is so beautiful about this Property is its old Heritage charm . The rooms are very Spacious , Service nice , Location centralised I was surprised to see an Elevator as well for going 1st floor for this building . I assume the Property being not less than 75--100 Years Old . My Appreciation to the owners for adding beauty to this place by maintaining green Plants all around the Hotel Premises Thanks to Chowdhury Estate Team for my wonderful Stay
I booked this hotel from booking.com via OYO and it was showing "Hotel Heritage Exide". Upon reaching there by 2AM, my taxi had stopped bang opposite this block number 55 and there was no clue of "Hotel Heritage" .... Thankfully in Kolkata you have folks roaming around at that hour and as typical Indian scene at least 5 gentlemen gathered and every one scratching their smart phones and heads to search for hotel Heritage ..... finally my call was connected to this hotel through OYO and we were told that "Sir you are at right place, just look for "Chowdhuri Estate" !!! ..... yes and the sign was just behind me. All those gentlemen on road and my Ola driver were pleased that finally we found the place ..... of course as I well overheard some abuse in Bengali language which meant 'kahan se aise chyutye aate hai, hotel ka nam bhi malum nahi' :D So the gate got opened and my Ola entered ..... and it was Chowdhuri Estate - Lodge and then i started preparing for a nightmare .... Indian lodges usually are horrible! And my taxi stopped in front of the gate and it wasnt looking all that bad. Quite typical heritage Kolkata building with wooden interior and old type but quite silent lift! At front desk i was immediately handed my room keys. Entering in the room .... Wow! It was about 22ft x 12 ft huge room with proper beds, desk, cupboards and working AC, coming to bathroom again 15ft long and 8 ft wide royal washroom .... it was kind of living in old type palace. Not luxurious. Cleanliness of room, toilet is good but bed covers were not so. Although upon request were changed immediately. Breakfast is ordinary. But what do you expect in less than INR 2000/- ?? (~US$30.00)…
