The Oberoi Grand closed at the last minute for major refurbishment so friends in Kolkata helped me find an alternative. Initial recommendations were for other 5* hotels particularly the Taj and the ITC but I did not like their location away from the city centre so finally went with the 4* Peerless. It’s unfair to compare the Peerless with 5* competitors so my review is based on its 4* status. The first impression is great! Once you get off the busy street it’s a welcoming oasis. A beautiful reception and lounge area, wonderful room (I booked a Chowringhee suite for half the price of my Superior room at the Grand), with stunning views over the city: Eden Gardens, Victoria Memorial and so on. The restaurants too are great particularly the fine dining Bengali cuisine Aaheli which is really super and where I was delighted to host old friends. Service throughout my 4 week stay has been great. The majority of staff throughout seemed keen/determined to make my stay the best it could be, for which I’m grateful. Senior management made themselves known and available. Duty Manager Akash was always extremely friendly and helpful , Housekeeping, particularly the lady who seemed assigned to my room the most were a pleasure and hard working too. Security and the Concierges were extremely helpful and very friendly. In the restaurants Camran, Sundar, Barnini, Suman , Joyashree, Debojit and others went out of their way to make my dining experience as good as possible. Exec Chef Soumyadip is perfection. Gobinda and Rup in the bar became friends. The 2 main Lift operators Chandanagore and the new boy smiled throughout their long shifts. My one negative, and I’m being extremely picky in mentioning it, was with a male receptionist who left me halfway through a transaction to help someone else. In summary: great location, helpful and friendly staff, clean and secure, I felt safe at all times. And I’m glad I stayed here. Thanks Moa and your marvellous team 🙏🏽

Great room, very clean, well-functioning and easy-to-control air conditioning. The hotel staff was very nice, and they even brought me an iron and ironing board when I asked. The staff provided excellent service, and we had no complaints there. We booked eight months in advance, and the hotel was fully occupied with conferences. Our first room was in the "new" building, but the water stopped mid-shower and didn’t return, so we moved to a room in the old building on the 10th floor next to the gym, which worked well for us.
Only one lift was operational due to upgrades, which was occasionally frustrating but manageable. The air conditioning was effective, water pressure was decent, and the bed was firm, like most hotels in India. The room was clean, but the towels were the typical thin, grey ones you’d expect in a 3-star hotel.
The biggest issue was the bathrooms—they desperately need refurbishment. It looks like they’ve just painted over moldy doors, ceilings, and grout. Management should act fast before negative reviews pile up. A full renovation with new tiles, showers instead of tubs, better mirrors, and exhaust fans would make a huge difference. There’s no competition in this area, so fixing this would put them ahead.
On the bright side, the breakfast buffet was absolutely incredible—the best part of the stay. Special mention to the Dosa chef—outstanding!

Peerless hotel Kolkata has been a second place as my home away from home. The services are delectable and the foods at Oceanic and Aaheli are mouth watering and both the restaurant are so rich in traditional cuisines. Bengali restaurant Aaheli has a great Bengali cuisines to serves to the guest. Rest reception people are very humble and cooperative . Reception area specially lobby is very nicely decked up . Peerless rooms are also good nice and clean. House keeping is always on a tows to cater to the needs of a in-house guest. Well I really liked the services,foods and the total hospitality. Location wise Peerless Hotel is situated at the central part of Kolkata. The usually could shop at New Market which is in close vicinity. I will come again with my family and stay here.

This was the most disappointing stay I ever experienced.
Neha at reception was unfriendly and did not provide necessary information while checking us in like which floor would be breakfast, we were staying in the connecting building so instructions were not provided how to get to the dining area. And she seemed irritated by our questions.
The room we got was dirty and even after room service done the next day still the conditions didn’t improve. Toilet seat was broken, water pressure was harsh, drainage in the shower was poor, you will be standing in your own soapy water. The next person can’t use shower until it’s all drained.
There were no non Bengali channels on TV apart from one which was just old music channel.
Kettle provided was old and unclean and there were water rings marks in the tea counter.
And the cherry on top was we were forced to write excellent fake review while checking out. Shruti at front desk was insisting us to write review in front of her so she could take screenshot, you can see the pattern in other reviews here please ignore them as they are most likely fake. We never met Shruti until the checkout day so she didn’t assist us in anything so it seems outrageous to ask for excellent review when you have not provide that kind of service or even assisted the guests.
They are scamming the reviews, so anyone from the hotel team if you are reading this it’s against the policy to ask for reviews.

Shabby room. Peerless used to have the Gloss in the yesterYears . They are trying to use that Goodwill with a depreciated quality with exorbitant rates. With the same rates for Sure Kolkata has mush decent and amazing facilities in other good locations. Booking via the website with images and location seems to be a lucrative deal. However on reaching the counter you are allocated a bad average room. Just that you feel like A room in Peerless which actually is not at all worth in the current days of other available hotels which offers much competetive cost effective service.

I had a wonderful experience at the hotel. The staff is quite professional and friendly. Everything evening they decorate the main lobby area with real flowers which I love the most. Further, the hotel has put the drinking water in glass bottles instead of plastic bottles, which I appreciate the most. The location of the hotel is in the main city so the person staying in it will find it quiet convenient to travel anywhere. The breakfast had lot of options, the food quality and service were great.

The staff at this hotel were incredibly welcoming specially Mr. Jigyasu singh was very helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast each morning and loved the convenient location close to major attractions. And the best thing that I loved about this hotel that is eco friendly and entire hotel is non smoking. we would like to visit again probably in next month. Will also recommend this hotel to our family members and friends.
