Though I have reviewed Hotel Sudesh Tower as a very cosy and serene place to stay, though quite near the market in South Kolkata near Deshpriya Park, I had a bitter experience during my previous stay from 14-16 June 2015.
I had checked in at 9.00 pm (Check out time is 12.00 pm) on 14th. On 16th June my flight was at 6.05 pm and as usual I had told the Reception Counter that I shall be leaving at 3.00 pm. This is my usual practice every time as the flight timings haven't changed since years.
But this time the lady and gent manning the Reception Counter made me vacate my room at 2.30 pm and sit with my luggage at the reception area till my car came. They said I will be charged extra rent as their computer programme does not allow any latitudes like this. Are humans running computers or are computers running human beings?
I check in 9 hours late, pay full day rent (14-15 June), but if they insist that I vacate my room and squat at the reception area with my luggage, to stick to their official check out timings, I will surely prefer some other hotel (there are many) that allow me a three hour overstay with no extra levy of rent.
Hence its bye Sudesh Tower once for all from me.
I would also like to share this experience with all my fellow travellers.

The room was clean, small though.

Hotel is far from business district which is better.

Area was peaceful

Breakfast start at 8 AM and worth waiting for.

Airport is one and half hour away in office hour timing.

Sudesh Tower is a decent place to stay for a night or two. The look of this rather new hotel (I was told its only two years old) is pretty good. The décor of elevator, reception and even the room doors are nice. The capsule like elevator is very nice. The room was a bit too small though. But the decoration of the room was decent with ice cold ac and all the other amenities like tea coffee maker, minibar, decent sized tv and so forth. The restroom was clean and well designed with a bathtub, and dimension was ample too. The fittings were top class and very nicely done. The food was good and reasonably priced. The staffs were good, however a bit too friendly at times (constantly glaring at our dining table and asking for tips!) However, the big problem, at least for me was the wifi. The Wifi is chargeable to guests!! I have boarded numerous hotels around the world, but never I have seen hotels charging for wifi. The have written almost everywhere words like wifi zone, high speed wifi, but they do not offer it for free for the guest. This is totally unacceptable for me, as I think they should have mentioned this in their adverts (at least with an asterisk symbol), that the wifi is chargeable. What I feel is if the hotel management writes wifi in the facilities list, it is a given that it would be complementary (just like tv and ac- just imagine some hotel saying that we have ac/tv but their use is not free!!). And this is the reason for my final average verdict for this otherwise nice place.

I had booked my room 10 days before arrival through *Clear Trip* after reading positive reviews. When I arrived at the hotel I had to wait quite a while before they had time for me. Unfortunately I made the mistake of signing in before seeing the room. The Manager even got angry when I asked to see the room first. He asked "Why? I said, I want to see if I like the room, that there is nothing wrong with it". Then the Manager replied in a most scornful way "What are you going to do then? When I finally was shown the room I was horrified. It was on the first floor right above the reception, I could hear the different voices talking and telephones ringing. When I asked for another room they said there was only one other option, a room right beside the elevator on the first floor where you could hear the elevator pling and the other guests passing by your door... When I asked for another room higher up they said there was none free. I felt they had given me their [--] room because they knew I had already paid for it and could do nothing about it. They got me in their trap. I want to warn people that unless you're Indian you can not count on being politely received in this hotel, let alone have a decent room. I have not met such a vicious attitude of a hotel manager before at the front desk in a hotel during my almost 20 years of travel and work in India. An uncomfortable and scary person. Let me emphasize that the other persons working there that I met on this occation are free of blame and treated me respectfully enough.

I checked into Hotel Sudesh Tower on 31st October 2015 with family enroute Bangkok and stayed for two nights. I found the hotel extremely family friendly. The reception staff were extremely good and professional especially Ms Puja. Check-in and check- out was smooth and hassle free. The restaurant staff, especially Mr Partho was very good. Will look forward to visit again. All the best and keep it up. PRASANT KUMAR PANDA, Jharsuguda, Odisha.

I have had to come to Kolkata multiple time along with my colleagues and found Sudesh Tower to be a decent hotel in a relatively better locality.

Pros: Clean room, decent rates, maintenance staff and restaurant people are nice. The restaurant staff even calls you everyday in the morning and asks you to have breakfast.

Cons: The biggest complaint I have with these people is that they put big advertisements saying all the major cards are accepted. I have a card that was accepted the first time I stayed here. In the subsequent times, their card machine was not able to accept the same card and they have flat out refused to repair the machine but are instead forcing me to use my debit card or pay in cash.

My company has given them a business worth INR 20 lacs in this year. If this is going to be their attitude towards people who give them such high business, I am happy to take my company's business somewhere else. There is one receptionist who is rude and has regard for the customer's satisfaction.

Also, cell reception is bad in most part of the hotel.

After hunting for a reasonable yet neat place for weeks, I settled for Sudesh Tower for 5nts stay with my parents and husband. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The washrooms cleaner than some of the fancier places we stayed in as well as the linen and tower were white. The location is very convenient and central.

STAFF: The staff contrary to some of the other reviews were pretty helpful. They were polite, eager to help and after talking to them a couple of times realised were a bit scared of the management. In my opinion thats good. We are bengalis from Mumbai, that did help with the communication. But once they realised my husband was a non bengali, they were extremely polite and were taking extra care of him.

FOOD: The breakfast buffet is pretty good. Inspite of the crowd being less, the service can be slow but the spread is good. One must try the fish begum bahar and dal gosht here.

CONS: The one negative in my view was that there was just NO VIEW. Our rooms looked into some other houses...not cool. But these were one way -they cant look in during the day but they can at night. We kept the blinds down through the trip. The wi-fi is not true.

OVERALL: i loved the stay.

Was worth every bit of the money spent. Nice rooms with all basic amenities. The view from the window is nothing to die for as it is located in a residential area and there are just buildings to see. The room, though not very large, had all the required things. The bathroom had a really good shower fitted in and I would say that was the best thing about the room.
Recommended for those who want to stay in the main part of the city without paying too much and are not bothered about the view from the window.
