Detailed Reviews
I have checked in at 12.00 Noon. for my office work at Kolkata. While I checked in the reception they receptionist is very rude the person name is Mr. Uttam and they don't know whats called a hospitality and I saw they have given the room one couple without luggage they have taken money without receipt given to the guest. First time I have seen how they gives the room without luggage, because I travels trough out India for my office work. Very poor and very bitter knowledge about this hotel and their staffs.

Hotel Hiland and Hiland Inn are two hotels under the same management. The two hotels are located close by on the same road, adjacent to Hotel Gateway. Out of the two, Hiland Inn is a recent construction while Hiland is relatively older.
About Hiland Inn: The hotel does not have a restaurant (but the meals can be arranged on order). Rooms are small but manageable. Lift cannot accommodate more than 2-3 adults at a time. Room service is ok. Tea maker was available in the room but basic ingredients such as tea bags, milk sugar have to be called for and provided in limited quantities. Being a new construction, the room, washroom, bed linens and fittings were in good condition. Overall its an acceptable accommodation at the given price. May be avoided for Family stay.

1. Located opposite Ruby Hospital (a prominent landmark). So not difficult to find the place.
2. The rooms are good, slightly better than many guest houses, hence the tariff is also slightly higher. The rooms on 1st floor are quite big.
3. The Service is not at all good as they are too stringent about the timings of the meals, at noon they were not willing to offer an egg preparation which was very surprising.
4. The rooms were not well kept with some loose fittings in the bathroom, etc which is quite annoying after paying a high price. The tea maker was available in the room but without the basic ingredients such as tea bags, milk sugar...

Stayed a night in April 2014. My friend had booked over phone. When I reported at the reception they very courteously and said that the rate would be what was agreed uopn with my friend. I even confirmed the amount. But an hour after checking in they informed that the rate would be much higher as a higher room was available.
I was there as my son was appearing in an entrance exam the next morning. However, they started running a motor which made a terrible noise from about 11:30 pm. Even after repeated complaints they put it off only at 12:45 am. Then they started running it again at 5:45 am and kept it on till past 7:30 am. As a result, we could not sleep most of the night, and my son had too give his exam in that condition.
The person at the reception, a Mr Chandra, was very rude and did not know how to behave with guests. Also, some road repair works were going on near the hotel, and the approach road was partly under water.
The complimentary breakfast was not so bad. The room (No 101), supposed to be a deluxe one, was line a rat hole. The flush in the washroom stopped working in the morning when it was needed most.
When I asked for the complaint book before checking out, they gave me a non-specific register. it was not a complaint book at all

I came for a business trip with family and I thought that initially going just nearby Gateway Hotel which is a much larger and better hotel would be a better option. However, since we were there just for the afternoon and leaving by evening, I opted for Hiland which is just in the lane on the left side after Gateway. Much to my chagrin, the room and reception were the initial clues as to the substandard quality of the the entire establishment. The receptionists were probably business partners as the entire building seemed empty and they were handling all the duties. It seems to be running low on profits. However, unlike family run excellent B&B's in Europe, this is a far cry from the quality of service and facilities being provided. However, the charges are really cheap for anyone living in the EU, the cost is that of a hostel, around 20 Euros for a double bed room. The Indian economy is great for such purposes :)
The breakfast was the worst offender, being just 2 fried eggs, cheap loafs of bread with jam and butter spattered and couple of sweets called rasgulla and a cup of tea; without the culinary expertise of chefs everywhere else, or even good hostels like in Amsterdam and Paris. They charged around 100 bucks for that bunch of eating matter (More like 1.2 Euros actually :) However, in Indian opportunity cost, 100 INR to an Indian would be like 4 Euros to an European. So in that sense it was a bad investment.) Tasteless and looks like made by an amateur.
The Wi-Fi never worked properly and on asking the counter they said it was repairs going on. But I am sure Wi-Fi was included in the price, so what was going on, why di not they tell us earlier? I have a dongle always so personally not a problem, however quality of service, big fail.
The menu has to be ordered by bed phone, on calling the cook/waiter talks in broken english and though I speak hindi, they cant understand much of that as well :0 I finally settled for a non veg suite of Chicken Curry Chowmein only to be told that they dont have any non-veg item for lunch !
What on earth is going may I ask? They are really down on profits, I say, I pity them, so much of ill-will for just 20 Euros. Ha ha.
During dinner, we just went outside to shop and eat somewhere in the area nearby.
The bathrooms had all the ventilators closed and I had to call someone to get them opened. The soaps looked used and were probably recycled as would be expected in such cost cutting venues. The bed rugs were very dirty and the chairs had years of filth as in big black spots. These kollkatans are not fit to be a part of the global hospitality industry, the worlds dirtiest city also harbours the worlds worst budget hotels (not to mention the traffic, noise, pollution, peoples strange xenophobic attitude, inability to evolve, not a single night club worth going and the list goes on and on. For people living in the EU zone or UK just skip Kolkata completely, its not with the times and you will be frustrated beyond your imagination, nothing worthwhile to see either, I come here just for work and then I leave...I was on the way to Dubai, hence with family.)
All in all I made this account just to say how bad my stay was. I definitely dont recommend this hotel.

for budget travellers specially alone or visiting hospital or on business trip this is a ok place. i was with family and needed a nice family room. but for the price i was paying the family room with four beds was small and not upto the mark with some corners dirty and needs cleaning. bathroom had problems with basin tap, with warm water from shower, with flush, almost everthing. beds are comfortable, tv has all channels you need. bfast buffet has very limited dishes but good taste. i would rather pay 3K more and stay at gateway hotel next door if i have to stay in the area. the area doesnt have much barring a good sweet shop in front, few restaurants down the road and ruby hospital walking too. for this area and place this hotel is not worth the price.

The architecture of the hotel is not great and is very boring. talking about interior though its new and modern but not well designed and which impact the warmness. the cleanliness of the hotel is good but you don't get any view from the rooms. Breakfast over here is complimentary.

Stayed there for one night to attend a family wedding in January 2018. It is a small, budget hotel, in a bylane off the main road. Very well located for Ruby Hospital as well as for Science City and other attractions in the vicinity.
The staff is very polite. There is a breakfast room on the ground floor which provides simple food - parathas, bread, bananas etc. The steward will take your clothes and get them ironed at a roadside ironing service.
Hiland hotel is a budget hotel. The room and toilet are tiny but they try to keep it clean. Better to carry your own towels though:-) There is a hot water kettle in the room for tea/ coffee.
OK for a budget stay.
