The Glenburn Penthouse is a discrete, elegant residence in the heart of historic Kolkata, with spectacular views of all her iconic landmarks; From Victoria Memorial to Eden Gardens, the lush green expanse of the Maidan and the majestic bridges that cross the River Hoogly. Conceptualised and executed over a number of years, the team behind Glenburn Tea Estate's boutique hotel in Darjeeling, have carefully amassed an exquisite collection of antique Bengal colonial furniture and artworks to create a haven of quiet luxury above the bustling streets of the city of Kolkata. Each of the 9 spacious suites have a large sleeping area with antique four poster beds, enough desk and sitting space for 2 people to live and work comfortably and efficiently, in a soft, elegant ambience, with lots of natural light. Easy-to-manoeuvre wooden shutters on all the windows allow for filtered shade during the hottest parts of the day, and reveal the spectacular views without the need for curtains or blinds. Shades of celadon green, yellow and white are complemented by mirrored furniture and textiles that include our Glenburn signature tea print on the bed linen and hand-embroidered luxury cotton sheets. Collections of art that reflect the historical theme of the hotel fill walls with interesting stories and map out journeys taken by early travellers. Fine carpets adorn the wooden floors to add a touch of warmth, while the cool marble floors of the elegant hallways, dressing rooms and bathrooms provide a welcome respite from the heat. The large 'white-marble' bathrooms are equipped with bathtubs and walk-in showers, with lots of natural light and Glenburn Therapy Darjeeling Green Tea bath accessories.

The contrast couldn’t be bigger: the penthouse is located in an office tower in centraal Kolkata and to be honest the building is not attractive at all. Once the doors of the elevator open, however, you are in a completely different world: Old World charme! The room we had was spacious, had a bacony and shutters, a comfortable bed and a huge bathroom. On the 8th floor, the dining hall/drawing room had a spectacular wall covering and next to the drawing room is a nice terrace overlooking a.o. the Victoria Memorial. On the top floor a pool (‘infinity’ on two sides), with the same view. Unfortunately, there was not really a possibility to sit comfortably in the shade there, but the staff told us they were working at it. The staff was attentive without being pushy. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay and higly recommend this hotel. Ther are a few issues that we wanted to point out. We did have an issue with the airconditioning in our room: in the beginning we had some trouble operating it and it was rather loud. In all fairness: the hotel did offer to put is in another room (which we declined since we liked the room too much. The breakfast was all in all quite good, but we would suggest (from a westerners point of view) to dispense with the ‘croissants’, that were absolutely horible. The toast was fine, but it would have been nice if they had offered us the local toast, which is quite could. We missed the possibility for a light lunch. They offered to provide us with sandwiches, but there was no way of knowing what we would have gotten. Also, they have a nice Glenburn Cafe on the ground floor, so wouldn’t it have been possible to provide guests with the option to order from there and have it served in the drawing room?

Glenburn Penthouse it was a breath of refreshing air after 2 weeks traveling around India. We arrive 10pm after a long journey in Varanasi, and it was great as a welcoming a great dinner from the chef Everything was perfect , the taste of the rooms well furnished the details of the wallpapers in lounge area, the perfect fabrics of the sofas, I can say that beauty is all around you, Good taste is not easy fo found but in Glenburn I founded the perfect liaison between Indian tradition patterns and colors with western design. Beauty is everywhere. The Bedroom was stunning, the details of the bedclothes make feel us so well and comfortable every aspect was in the perfect place and no tacky. The staff was gentle and always ready to make you feel safe and comfortable, they help us in so many ways , even suggesting a market rather than another one. The service of the restaurant and the food was simply perfect, western food and Indian food..and the surprise of the tea time with the sunset ....fantastic I ask personally to the chef to have Indian breakfast, I ask the pani puri tipical street food....was simply great. Thank you again for you kindness and patience I wish to back soon with my partner

Well appointed bedrooms, plumbing that works, charming staff, a terrace with views over parkland where we enjoyed relaxing breakfasts, and delicious cuisine. The infinity pool is more like a plunge pool but refreshing, and there is a small gym. The owner (a Cambridge graduate) is a very well informed guide to the city highlights.

I had just completed a 21-day river cruise to remote areas of India my final hotel was at the Glenburn Penthouse in Kolkata. The moment you step out of the lift you know you are in a place of classiness. The staff are welcoming and attentive to your needs. The attention to detail in every aspect is amazing my room was immaculate and the furnishing was exquisite. I had cocktails and dinner on the outside terrace overlooking Victoria Memorial. The dinner menu choices a wide selection of both Indian and Western dishes where presentation and portion size were on point. I purchased tea from their estate in Darjeeling for gifts which everyone enjoyed.
I highly recommend staying at the Glenburn Penthouse Kolkata if you want to stay somewhere where you are made to feel special but not overpowered by the staff The location is excellent and easily accessible.

Wonderful to return to this gem of a boutique hotel. We were so well looked after for our five night stay, nothing was too much trouble. It feels like staying as a guest in someone's beautifully decorated home. We were thrilled to find the same staff as two and half years ago, they are clearly highly valued, and the owner Husna came in to meet us. The breakfasts and high teas were wonderful, and we really enjoyed the Bengali feast that was specially prepared for us. Everything about this special place has been thoughtfully designed with a fine attention to detail. The glass refillable bottles of RO water in the rooms are a welcome change from plastic bottles. We are already planning our next visit! Highly recommended.

Following a recommendation by friends, we spent 4 nights at the Glenburn for our trip to Kolkata.
The hotel occupies the top three floors of an office block on Russel Street, right in the centre of Colonial Calcutta, so very convenient for visiting the historic monuments, as well as the commercial areas around it – something appreciated by my wife!
On the outside it is simply seen as a glass-fronted building, but the contrast on arriving on the 8th floor to reception was amazing. The hotel is beautifully presented, both the public areas and rooms are stylish and comfortable, and given the usual bedlam at street level, a true oasis of peace and tranquillity.
Our room overlooked the Victoria Monument and Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium (unfortunately no cricket was being played in it) as well as some of the surrounding buildings, it was large, comfortable and well equipped, as well as being extremely quiet, so we had a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast was served to order, no buffet, and the evening meal excellent, a fusion of western and Indian tastes.
Afternoon tea was offered each day, a mixture of savoury and sweet “nibbles” (which in no way does them justice), the tea coming from the owner’s tea plantation in Darjeeling.
Overall an excellent stay, made by the efforts of the staff, who were on hand to ensure every effort was made to make our stay memorable. This was very important when my wife went down with a bug and was room bound for a day, and we were overwhelmed by the support.
A very highly recommended stay,

Located in the heart of the city, The Glenburn Penthouse is a quiet oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city. The attention to detail from the staff started from the moment our flight arrived at 2:30am and they had a driver waiting for us to take us to the hotel. Led by Mr. Faraz Ahmed (general manager), every staff member was professional, kind and made a lasting impression on my family. As far as the property goes, we had amazing views of the Victoria Memorial, Maidan and the bridges crossing the river. The rooms were furnished with antique Bengal colonial furniture and artwork. The hallways, changing area and bathroom have beautiful marble floors. Room #1 had the biggest shower that we have ever seen. I would 100% recommend The Glenburn Penthouse as a first choice hotel whenever visiting Kolkata!

On the eve of Kali Puja me and one of my friends planned a visit to Glenmark Penthouse for a dineout. Since the day turned out to be a rainy one , we were late by a good 2 hours or so which made us reach there by 2.42 pm (to be exact). Inspite of the fact that their lunch hour ended at 3 , they were quite accommodating to have us for lunch. The place is exquisitely decored with an amazing view that included an extensive panorama of the Vidyasagar Setu and the Victoria Memorial.....They have a small morning room area where usually tea is served which is really cosy. Coming to the food it could be said that despite being delicious the portions served were really not commendable for the price they charge. Given the fact that this is just a boutique hotel on the 8th floor of a residential building, the prices could have been a little lower. They charge you more than the star hotels like ITC Royal Bengal, Oberoi Grand, Great Eastern etc and the swimming pool was out of bounds for the dine out guests (so they said). Overall , though the place is really cozy and warm and the staff is really courteous, the price charged for a visit here for a dineout is way too much on the higher side which is not justified.

Every detail is accounted for at the Glenburn Penthouse. From the friendly and attentive staff to the impeccably decorated rooms and common area, it is truly the definition of luxury. When we arrived, we were greeted with delicious Glenburn tea and the accompanying tea time snacks were absolutely delicious. Dinner is quite the experience as well - the chef has done an exquisite job curating a modern menu for all tastes. The rooftop pool is a must with a view of the Victoria Memorial and new bridge.
I traveled with my family (two parents, spouse, and an infant) and the staff were very accommodating in helping with the baby's needs as well. They also helped in connecting us to a wonderful guide for a tour of the city that really added to the trip.
This is an extraordinary place that I highly, highly recommend.
