This is a wonderful place to stay in! Excellent ambiance, very supportive staff and an excellent location. The rooms take you to 20th century Calcutta. Typically colonial architecture. It is a different world once you step inside.

There's nothing good about this place. Unfortunately! TV was not working as the recharge was overdue. That is terrible when you have kids. A simple breakfast is served 90 minutes after ordering. We tried that on the first day. Disastrous! No housekeeping during our 4-nite stay. We had to endure this bitter experience as we were deducted as soon as we booked with the credit card. The staff are utterly helpless. Would recommend this only for solo travelers in transit.

Location: Finding the hotel is 'blink and you'll miss it' kind of situation. It's located in a narrow street, and I walked right past it without realising it. It is, however, located in the heart of North Kolkata, which is the Historic part of Kolkata, with the Princep Ghat, being walking distance away. It's ideally located for a gastronomic adventure, with food markets being a stone's throw away. New Market and Park Street are also a very short distance away. It's tucked away in the street that leads up to The Lalit Great Eastern. The Aesthetics: The outside of the building gives it an impression of being a shady, shanty building. However, you'll have to walk in to see the unexpected. The building seems to be a Heritage Building, with high ceilings and spacious rooms. The hotel seems to be playing up the theme of it being a remnant of the Colonial Era. Some photos are attached to give you an idea of the insides. The Rooms: The Rooms are all named after famous painters, and you'll find examples of their work inside. They give an impression of being very old fashioned, in the sense that they are locked on the outside with a padlock, and on the inside with a wooden bar that has to be put into position to lock the door. The amenities on the inside, are modern, however, with a working Television, and a fully functional bathroom with hot water being available throughout the day. The room that was given to me, was large and spacious, with a bed high enough that it took me a little effort to clamber onto (I am a little vertically challenged). The bed was comfortable, however, and the sheets were clean. There is a small wooden cupboard to store your belongings, and a small dressing table. There is no provision of a safe, however. Service: The Guest House seemed to be a little under staffed, with only one Manager, who was not available all the time. The staff were very friendly, and courteous. however, and did their best to ensure that your stay with them was comfortable. They don't seem to have a functional restaurant, but would still procure food from the outside and get it delivered to your room, if you so wished, even at odd times.

Very odd building which is tucked down a side street which is quite industrial by nature. The hotel is an old old building and the door to the room locks via large padlock from the outside and large wooden bar from inside. The air conditioning is very cold and if anything too cold and I like the cold! Bed was like concrete although it was absolutely huge. Bathroom large and functional. No idea what the building once was but it's a strange hotel but the staff are friendly and efficient. Kolkata not my favourite place but hotel well Located for some good street food and restaurants. Would have scored higher if air con and bed had been better but for those reasons and very poor nights sleep it's a 3 star.
