I stayed in the hotel on September 2016 after Eid-ul-Azha. It was my 1st visit. I satisfied with the service and facilities of the hotel. It is just nearby New Market area and beside Shamoli Bus Counter. Very convenient place for Muslim people specially for Bangladeshi for halal food availability, cloth shopping as well as medicine etc. The hotel has free strong wi-fi facilities. If visit Kolkata again shall definitely stay in this hotel.

Surprised to see the variety of experiences people had at this hotel. I found my room to be very clean, comfortable and relatively quiet. Bucket shower only was available, but good supply of hot water. Toilet was leaking in 2 areas (from the water reservoir...clean water leakage), which I collected in the bathing "cups.". Good WiFi in the lobby. Not the friendliest reception staff... Would not let me print out an airline ticket there even when I offered to pay.

We had booked hotel for double bed a/c room. But we were put into room with individual beds like hospital. Room had limited space. Geyser was put off from reception upon enquiring was asked by receptionist why would someone need geyser at 5.00 pm when we checked in just at 2.30pm. Flush had issues they did send plumber upon complaining. Drinking Water given was in most unhygenic bottle with greasy filthy cap.we never drank that water. Every time u open bathroom in night u are sure to find cockroach. The male receptionist who did our check-in procedure had very lazy attitude. Made us wait longer even though my room was ready as confirmed by owner over phone before we arrived. The female receptionist was polite after being informed about tripadvisor reviews I write. Even extra person charge was too much compared to hotels around in same locality. I had asked for charger to borrrow I was turned down saying it belongs to other guest which was visible later during cross check found out that the mobile charger I had seen belonged to lady receptionist. Also it was difficult to locate. entrance of hotel as said by others which is true.
I recommend there are several hotels around which will offer you cheaper deal on the spot so no need to book in much advance. There are always rooms available around. It was not at all value for money. But location is the highlight of this hotel.

As i have entered to the room i feel shocked seeing cleanliness of room is very poor. Even they are providing the TV set on which u can watch free channel like DD news, DD-1 , DD bangla..etc
They even don't provide you the tiolet soap . WI FI facility was only limited to reception area.
Tiolet room is also vry small and untidy.

I never had such a bad unfriendly welcome in a hotel in over 45 years of travel.... please don't go there, there are lots of hotels in Calcutta! There are plenty of choices and travellers deserve more than poor attitude, unprofessional atmosphere and shoddy rooms.
I checked out after half an hour, even though I had paid in full for 4 nights accommodation and I am not a fussy traveller. Please look at my other reviews and avoid Oriental Kolkata!

You can book online but they don't have an email address with which to contact them, which means that it is a very expensive phone call if you are from abroad. They stayed open late for us as our flight was very late at night. Asked for a double room but got a twin even though could see empty double rooms. People asking for tips just for opening the door to the luggage storage. Bathroom drains smelt bad. I know for a fact that my t shirt went 'missing' here as I wore it on the first night as a pyjama top and then the second night it was no where to be seen!!! It didn't just magically disappear! I bought that T-shirt on the great wall of China and I will never be able to replace it. (It is navy blue if the hotel reads this and would like to send it onto the address I left in their register if they would like me to take this review down) I wouldn't recommend staying somewhere that has thief's.

Very dirty hotel. Floors were very dirty. Toilets were not cleaned at all. No remote for AC was given to customer. Geyser was not working. I had to go to ground floor from 4th floor several times to bring hot water for my child. No room service at all. Bed sheets and blankets was not clean (filled with human hair).

I am writing this review on June 2015.

Single AC room space is max 150 sq ft rent is 1600. Bathroom is not clean, They don't have their own restaurant. They will provide towel only when you request.

I had bedbugs ("khatmal") in my bed. Bare hygeinity is not maintained.

At Rs 1600 this is not definitely worth of money.

I stayed at this hotel as a transit. I booked the hotel using Stayzilla for 824INR per night, cheaper than the walk in rate of 999 INR. The hotel seems to be respectable. The 999 INR rate is clearly displayed and therefore it's not the hotel that quote a very high rate to the customer first. The room is clean and the bathroom is also clean. The aircon is rather too cold for me. The entrance doesn't look good but it's different inside. Staffs are fairly helpful. It's on Marquis street, not far from Free School Street (Mirza Ghalib). The hotel entrance is on a lane from Marquis street. The reception is on the right after taking the stair and you may need to take an old-fashion elevator to the upper floor to the room.

By far the most disgusting "hotel" we stayed at in India. There were roaches everywhere - including the bed and, at the end of the first night, on our jackets that we'd hung up on the back of the doors. We asked every day for the rooms to be cleaned, but they seldom were. We finally started asking for clean sheets and changing them ourselves, which is how we discovered a nest of roaches living under the mattress. We'd only paid $10 a room (we needed two), so we tried to stick it out, but after the hotel caught on fire we gave up and found another place. The hotel was trying to clean up, but it was smoky, stinky, and full of water. On the plus side, the fire didn't kill anyone, we got to see the Calcutta fire department in action, and maybe the smoke killed off some of the roaches.
