In the heart of Darjeeling, close to the Mall's shopping and entertainment, is "Snowlion Homestay." The hotel is owned & managed by a Tibetan family. Located on Gandhi Road, which is a continuation of the Mall Road, it provides an ideal base for the many local tourist attractions, whilst being in a central, upmarket area of the town. All our rooms have en suite (attached) bathroom with showers, hot & cold running water (24hrs), W.C, in-house telephone and remote control television with Cable TV (37 channels including BBC, Star TV, Zee, ESPN etc). We provide room heaters and hot water bottles at no additional cost during the winter season. WI-FI is freely accessible in the lounge. We would be happy to arrange for a taxi to collect you at BGD airport or NJP station. We have pick-up from BGD airport or NJP station and travel to Darjeeling (one way). If you choose to use us to be dropped back to the Airport or Station at the end of your stay, we will arrange it. The drive up to Darjeeling is 3hrs and is in any event very scenic. Often tourists choose to use a slightly longer (and even more scenic) route via Mirik Lake. This latter route is approximately 4 hrs.

This is a gem of a hotel. The rooms are very homely, well appointed and spacious. The bedding is nice and clean and fresh smelling, my wife's no 1 priority! The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. You are made to feel like one of the family. Especially when you eat upstairs and the family fuss over you, making sure that you are well fed at breakfast. The hotel is on Ghandi Rd, just a 5 minute stroll from the business of Chowrstra, the main shopping area. There you can guy all your holiday goodies and then have a cup or two of the local tea at Golden Tips tea rooms. A personal favorite place to sit and unwind after a busy day. We have stayed at Snowlion for three consecutive visits and plan to do so again.

Had an awesome trip. The room was awesome. Big room with English style gigantic window. Extremely cozy beds, with heater and geiser in thw bathroom. Cupboard are available, along with drawers. Mr. Gailly is an awesome human being, to whom we were able to reach our whenever we needed anything. His family members, including the two little twin girls, who are extremely sweet and generous, and Simba (the German Shepherd), were extremely humble and geneous. Our room had a terrace from which one can witness magic in the form of the great snowclad Kanchenjunga.

The staff and service is excellent. The staffs are very cordial and really do help alot... The owner takes of his guest like his own family. Overall a very friendly and cozy atmosphere. The staff helped us with sight seeing and vehicle bookings. Since we were traveling with our elderly parents, the staff took good care for making our stay more comfortable.

I stayed with my family at the attic room of the hotel from 22nd April to 25th April. I booked the room after seeing the review at TripAdvisor & truly it was worth it. The attic room was a four bedded room with one king size bed & two single size bed. The room was sanitized & was neat & clean. The room opens up to the terrace from where you can see the mighty Kanchanjunga if you are lucky. Pros: 1. The room was sanitized 2. The room was neat & clean 3. The size of the room was quite big 4. There was no water supply issue & was available 24*7 5. The room opens up to the terrace from where you can view Darjeeling & the mighty kanchanjunga 6. The owner P. T. Gailey was a wonderful person. He is a special mention here. He did not say no to me on anything & always helped me when I was in need. The hospitality shown by him is truly to be remembered. 7. They have 2 cabs which they provide to tourists for transfer & sight-seeing. So the cab issue will also be sorted out. 8. There was one driver named Dawa. He is a nice person. Always ask for him if you by chance need cab for transfer or sightseeing. He is a hidden gem. The courtsey shown by him is really to be learnt. His patience, behaviour & attitude is really good. He was never in a hurry to show & drop us to the hotel. He took special care of my mother as my mother has knee problem. 9. The hotel had wifi router on all the floors so the internet speed was quite high. 10. The room service was prompt 11. There was geyser in the washroom so hot water was available 24*7 Cons: 1. The hotel did not had lift so had to climb up the stairs to 5th floor to reach the attic room. 2. The hotel did not had lunch & dinner option. It had only tea or coffee & limited breakfast option so for food you have to go outside or else the hotel will bring the food from outside on demand. …

It's a excellent hotel rather than a Homestay. Staffs are very Co-operative. Gailly is a nice person.Rooms are excellent. Try to book 202 or else you may book 201.Its very near to Mal, 5-7 minutes walking distance. Moreover the locality is good.

I had stayed in this homestay as a solo traveller. This place is not only secure for women but the staff is also very friendly and patient. The mountain view from the roof top is mind blowing. The owner Mr Gailley is a warm and cordial person, helping you in every possible way. Will surely stay there whenever I visit Darjeeling.

The Snow Lion is fine for many travelers that appreciate hostel style accommodations. Everyone there is friendly and does the best with what they have to work with. It's on a very busy street, it's noisy, it's as clean as it can be, the rooms are unheated, bathrooms have limited hot water, and the breakfasts are average. Beds are firm...but the biggest issue is the mildew and black mold in rooms. It's very moist inside the rooms so the bedding has that continual damp feeling. Think of the Snow Lion as a cool, damp, noisy, cave. It sits in a very busy area and within walking distance of many Darjeeling hot spots. It's inexpensive and meets the needs of many budget minded travelers....just not my needs.

Pros : Proximity to Chowrasta (Mall), Good, Courteous and helpful Staff, some good eating places nearby (this compensates the homestay not providing lunch or dinner). The owner, Mr. Gilly is a nice person, though mostly not seen. You can take his help for anything in Darjeeling. The homestay also has arrangements for sight seeing in and around Darjeeling. Cons : Rooms with view no longer provide the view one would want. Construction on the roof of a building opposite the homestay block most part of the view. Carpets smelly and could do with some cleaning. Room heater is charged after the first night - something that was not informed by the staff before settling payment. Breakfast could be improved.

I am glad to inform you that we have upgraded all our rooms with Bhutan Pine wood panelling on the walls and Italian wooden flooring.We have 24 X 7 CCTV Surveillance enabled for security and safety measures of our guests. Snowlion homestay is the best place to view Kanchenjunga from room/rooftop terrace with excellent room and room service as the added bonus. Breakfast is good, the reception and breakfast room is nicely decorated presenting the local culture with various paintings. The homestay has generator and has 24hours hot water in washroom geyser. Even you will get hot water tap in basin also. The location is excellent, just 5mins walk from mall road. The best part was when we were leaving the homestay they honoured us with 'Uttoriyo' as their tradition and that too starting from elder person to younger. They wished us for our good luck and happy journey. This gesture really touched us. I will definitely stay in this homestay when I go to Darjeeling again and will recommend to everyone.

Our rooms are standard size double rooms with a king-size bed and ideal for 2 persons however on guest request, we permit an extra person in a room. We provide Dunlop mattress with quilts, pillows and blankets. We are centrally located on Gandhi road which is a continuation to the Mall on a straight gradient. There are many popular multi-cuisine restaurants & cafes along Gandhi road and Mall road. We were a family of 14 that visited Darjeeling to celebrate Christmas, and have returned with truck loads of memories associated with the place and most importantly, our homestay, Snow Lion. Welcomed with warm and smiling faces all through our 4 day stay, the pleasant and ever helpful family in charge was what made our experience all the more memorable. Clean rooms, good food, excellent service and a beautifully decorated hotel made us feel like we had found home away from home. Even though the mercury dipped way below our tolerance, the warm atmosphere of the hotel always made up for it. Special shoutout to Mr Gailly who was most cooperative in constantly updating our room bookings as our number of heads kept increasing, and on the whole, being the perfect host. I would highly recommend Snow Lion Homestay to anyone who wishes to enjoy a homely atmosphere owned by this lovely family. We of course, would definitely visit them again.
