We stayed 3 nights at Goomtee, in the Director’s Bungalow. We had a wonderful time. It is obviously a very old property and you have to make allowances for its antiquity but then that’s part of its charm. The staff were lovely and the food great. The tea is amazing.
I have stayed at your property and have liked it, however your reservation or whoever is involved with handling emails are really negligent. I have written a few emails and have also tried to call in the phone number given at your website. No one answers the phone and no one has cared to response my emails. I wanted to make reservations for my group in April and I have written many emails, but no response. Negligence to clients queries is not good for the reputation of such a nice property!
Great old tea bungalow maintained properly and very clean. Food served are made of local vegetables. Nice homely feeling in nature. Small equipped tea factory. Nice people guide throughout the factory followed by tea tasting. Awesome relaxing stay. Will go again.
This is a tea-garden based bunglow with 4 Rooms, called a Retreat located just one and a half hours from Siliguri amongst lush green tea-gardens and decorated lawns and garden. Its ambience promises to offer a change from the din and bustle of city-life, in peaceful solitude. But its exorbitant room-tariff surprizes you when u find different lack of facilities inspite of such high pricing! Most of the lamp-shades do not work in the living area, washroom equipments are wornout and function poorly, food is not only vegetarian but far from tasty, spiders and snalis are co-existing with us! Amidst all problems, the behaviour of the staff are worth-appreciating.....considering the little resources they are provided with! Thus it is a humble request to the management to explore this beautiful place in a more well-maintained, user-friendly manner and transform this place as a Retreat... worth for money! …
We stayed in this tea garden retreat for one day, the stay was absolutely delightful. It is a serene place with beautiful surroundings (unlike the chaotic Darjeeling city). The experience of guided tour to the tea gardens and tea factory along with the tea tasting sessions was amazing. The kids had a great time in their lush green lawns, badminton, table tennis and other indoor facilities. The food served was so fresh and tasty. Overall a great experience which has created wonderful memories! An absolute recommended place to visit if you are going to Darjeeling!
We stayed 3 nights in the property. Set amidst almost 500 acres of tea gardens. very close ti mahanadi railway station. This is a 2 hour drive from darjeeling and bagdogra aiprort is 2 hours away. So its like midway. Where as Darjeeling is at 6500 + feet level this property is at 4500+ feet. Good thing is Its not touristy at all. Its a lovely bungalow adjoining a tea factory. Vegetarian food served by an elderly cook Prem was amazing. Sipped umpteen cups of Darjeeling tea 'Goomtee' Clean and tidy surroundings and a lovely lawn. Superb views. We did a hike to the waterfall where River Mahanadi originates. its just an hours hike from the bungalow. Great place to soak into the nature, chill and unwind. Bathrooms definitely need an upgrade. The current owners have sold the property including the tea gardens. We met the new owner Mr.Agarwal who has great plans for the property.…
Within five minutes of arrival, we were on the phone, desperately looking for alternative accommodation. The rooms and common areas reeked of mould and damp, as did our bedding. The towels were dirty and smelled, and there was no hot water in the filthy bathroom. The wardrobe was full of men's clothes and every surface was covered in dust. We were served an almost inedible meal on a table covered with a cloth spattered with congealed food. Despite advertising on English language websites, staff spoke no English at all. There was no Wifi. We couldn't wait to get out of the place and cannot understand the many good reviews on this and other travel websites.
My friend and I stayed here for one night, although we wish we had planned more! It’s a beautiful old house with the original colonial furniture. It was very quiet and had beautiful views out over the estate. Our stay included a tea estate tour and tea tasting. They cooked for us as well, which was great!
I am writing this review to express my gratitude towards excellent customer service received from Ashok (Goomtee Manager/Owner) in handling our booking/cancellation – which does go on to reflect great hospitality in itself. Summary – booked for 5 nights for 6 people for stay in Jun’17 - Unforeseen political chaos broke loose in Darjeeling closer to our booking dates. I had made FULL payment towards our reservation which was a relatively handsome sum towards a staycation, and was afraid such would be subjected to cancellation/etc. fees. Another property booked during the same period originally levied such cancellation charges of a whopping 50%. Ashok on the other hand understood the genuineness of our grievance, related to our disappointment, and refunded 100% amount to us. Businesses these days are rarely that scrupulous to extend such courtesy especially when customer’s cash is with them. We on TA must acknowledge such honest attitude in return and hail such sincerity from businesses that dignify themselves with such incredible customer service. It’s a shame that we could not visit Goomtee; we will in the future. I have read most reviews here, and whilst I cannot speak from experience, I had booked this property for us after due diligence and perusing through almost ALL reviews on TA. A 5/5 from our end for the level of customer service received. Many thanks Ashok & Goomtee! Hope to see you soon!…
