The hotel provides 24 hour hot water, good wifi, electicity back up, room heater, thick comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and best part is the step down seating area which overlooks a great view from the window. The hotel is so well maintained and the owner spoke directly for coordination of cake arrangements for my wedding anniversary. I was offered a great rate and convenient payment modes.
The lobby itself is so welcoming it feels so positive with all the greenery and landscaping and the in-house cat D-Jay while the staff did felicitation with a cloth around your neck, hot welcome drink and a smile of the faces of the front desk. They are helpful with your requirements and they arrange for a drop off at convenient times to the main town, if you feel the hotel is far away from the center of town. You can pay Rs. 200 at the taxi stand near the town center and they will drop you back up at the hotel. The hotel has multiple forms of rooms like family villas, couple rooms, suites, attick rooms, but February is the best time to visit darjeeling.
Also the hotel needs to work on the restaurant and I feel they need to have better staff for making quality food. Its not bad food, but its not great either. Hence I have given 4 out of 5. Food is an integral part of a hotel stay.
Thanks for the personal attention from the owner, amazing greenery and maintenance, service with a smile, great room quality and spacious chilling space :)
Room tip : Heat the water in the kettle and keep in the thermos, or else you will have to heat water every 15 minutes to drink water at comfortable temperature. They provide heating kettle and thermos both in the room. We went in February and it was really cold, so we practiced this.
We have been to Darjeeling many times and usually stay either at Planters Club or Elgin. This was the first time we put up at Cedar Inn.
The location, hospitality and the overall ambience of Cedar Inn is excellent. Weather permitting, you have an unrestricted view of Mt. Kanchenzonga, right from your room.
The rooms in the main building are wood panelled, warm and cosy. We had a fireplace in our room which we used every evening.
The food is nice. On request, they customised dishes for our 5-year old, without spices / chillies etc.
A cuisine recommendation would be their home made chicken curry. Quite lip smacking indeed!
The hotel followed all COVID protocols. Cleanliness and adherence to hygiene is of you a high order. Rooms & toilets are cleaned thoroughly every day. Bed linens etc were changed every three days. Laundry facility is also available.
For self driven vehicle owners, like us, parking facilities are available. Please inform the hotel in advance of your need for parking.
The staff are ever smiling and helpful. A big bunch of thanks to Ms. Sneha who helms the front office and magically solves all your issues, (if you have any that is), in a jiffy! Thanks Sneha for making our stay so enjoyable :-)
Cedar Inn also has a pick up and drop facility to & from the Mall area of Darjeeling at fixed timings. The ever smiling hotel chauffeur's, Messer's Jeevan & Krishna will be more than glad to drop you off in front of Ramada, should you wish to visit the shopping area.
There are three adorable resident cats as well, whom you can pet much to your delight!
We really wished our holiday stretched on for ever but reality spoke otherwise and we had to make out way back to city & corporate life :-(
Rest assured we will be back. Cedar Inn has us hooked forever.
Wish the team all the best!
Best regards,
Arjab Basu & family
The views are amazing (request a room with a good view) both from rooms and the garden area. You are right on the top of the hill with an unbroken view to the mountains. The downside of being at the top of the hill is that you are away from the action. It is a steep long, winding road, packed with cars, to get to the market area. The hotel will provide shuttles on request. The walk would be pretty unpleasant at night.
The rooms are lovely and spacious, Lots of wood on the floors and walls. The whole building feels like a maze of stairs and floors, which is fun. As you explore you find small libraries, or table tennis etc scattered around the building.
There is a small kids play area outdoors, which the kids loved although there are only a few things there.
Breakfast buffet is good (and the plates are warmed!), however individual items keep running out and it takes time to replace them. Even though the hotel has been running for a while, they don't seem to have a handle on how much food is needed to keep all items stocked. Whatever is there is tasty.
Dinner is where it gets strange. There is a buffet, which was good on some days and boring on others. If you only want some items you can order alacarte from the buffet menu, which takes 10 minutes. There is also a full alalcarte menu, which takes 50-60 minutes for vegetarian and chicken dishes with last orders at 830pm. Pasta with white sauce took over an hour. Any other dish such as mutton or fish needs to be preordered early in the day. Didn't try lunch but is probably a similar system.
The bar closes by 930pm. So this is definitely not a party place :-)
The staff are very friendly and greet you with smiles as you walk around the hotel. They arranged everything we asked for.
The hotel is pretty cold. There is one heater in the room that definitely helps, but it could be warmer. Other reviews have mentioned getting hot water bottles in bed and fires in the room fireplace, so maybe these are available on request?
Hot water is only available for specific times in the morning and evening.
I think in summer or warmer months the place would be wonderful - there is outdoor seating in the garden etc.
So: lovely building, great views, and some strange rules around timing of services.
And we weren't disappointed.
Located on higher altitude and we booked a family room - 2 bedrooms with attached toilets & hallway in the middle.
Due to extreme weather conditions, the rooms' heater was always on.this is the only glitch we observed, need to have a better room heating mechanism
The food on offer was good. Even though there were only 2 fly staying, they had enough variety on offer
They have service wherein they offer free drop service to the main market - one way.
While returning to hotel, local taxi charges u anything between 200- 250
No shops r located nearby the hotel premise
Best part of the hotel, there was a small children's play area, option to have a tea in the open, and magnificent view of the kanchanganga mountains. When the clouds r clear its absolutely stunning view of the mountain from here.
We reserved two rooms and they were very clean and had excellent bathrooms. After 5 days on the trail, we were ready for a bit of pampering. The hotel was very prompt picking us up in Darjeeling and received us with smiles and good humor. Check in was simple and dinner was served promptly.
Food was excellent for dinners and breakfasts. This hotel has British history so Western style food is available along with the usual Indian staples. Tea time was very nice in the late afternoons. The eating area of the hotel is cozy and offers excellent mountain views as well.
Showers were hot and with plenty of water. Beds were firm and very comfortable. Rooms were quiet.
Overall, an excellent place to stay in Darjeeling and close enough to descend into town by foot if you so choose.
We would stay here again when visiting and I thought the prices were very reasonable (includes dinner and breakfast)
I went through the photographs and few other details of the hotel, just kept my fingers crossed and booked the hotel.
After spending 3 days at the hotels I have a more firm belief that whatever happens, happens for the best. Could not have imagined a better experience elsewhere.
Location : Superbly located at a height from where you can see the entire darjeeling town, see the entire range of mountains surrounding the town and ofcourse the mesmerising Kanchenjunga. They have the best Kanchenjunga facing rooms - also most of their rooms face the Kanchenjunga and the other mountains. Even if you don't get the Kanchenjunga view from the room, they have a nice deck, garden and children's play area from where the Kanchenjunga is very easily visible. It's a little away from Mall road but if you have a cabby booked with you and itinerary sorted out, you would infact treat it as a plus point as you stay away from the hustle bustle of the town.
Service : I was blown by their service and the politeness of the staff. Right from housekeeping, food room service and the restaurant service. Everything was perfect and prompt. Food menu could have been more but I think it's more important to have the right variety with a fantastic taste and they scored very well over there.
1. Location: Secluded, far away from city, you have to hire a taxi to reach there from Mall which would cost 300 per car. The road is not walkable and no shops etc are nearby. Must avid this location.
2. Hotel Building: Very old property, cats are everywhere.
3. Interior: bed bugs are there, stinky smell from the rooms, only one window in the room, fittings are very old, toilet flush did not work, one glass light shade fell just one foot from my head while I was sleeping on the bed, which is unacceptable yet they forced me to pay 1000 for this.
4. Food: every day they provide 250ml water per person in the room, and refuse to delivery drinking water on top of that. They forced to buy drinking water by paying excessive high price.
All other food items in the restaurant are exorbitantly priced – one Chapati costs 50, one portion dal fry costs 250, one portion potato fry costs 220.
Restaurant run by unprofessional, people are polite but only this can compensate for their unprofessional laid back delayed service.
5. Racism – Reception staff shows racist behaviour to tourists who speak Bengali
6. Pandemic protection – hotel staff rarely covers face, no thermal measuring, no sanitiser in use, no social distance is maintained, rooms are not sanitized once one guests leave before another comes. Super spreader situation.
Hotel rooms, lobby, restaurant and other common areas have great ambience. The hotel was built in the 90s, it has an old-world charm, you can visit the hotel just to enjoy this. The fixtures in the bathrooms and bedrooms are modern and function well. Heated beds, room heater and kettle were a blessing.
The staff is another excellent reason why I would choose Cedar Inn again. They are proactive and always willing to help. I had great conversations with the staff in the restaurant, and office. The GM Mr. Sanjay Nangial is a wonderful person full of warmth and passion for serving his customers and you can see that in the way the hotel is run
The food was very tasty and of good quality. The Alacarte menu is reasonably priced, breakfast buffet menu is good.
You can book the hotel directly by calling their office which would be a cheaper option.
We travelled with a family of 4 all adults and stayed in a Family suit that opened to magnificent view of Kanchenjunga. It was a nice set up with two double rooms joined with a small hall in between. Rooms were cozy with heaters and good interiors. Bathrooms were adequate with 24x7 hot water, beds were comfortable and noise levels were minimal to have sound sleep.
Key highlight is the Outstanding Service, as every member we met through out our stay showed tremendous hunger to serve the guests. Restaurant was awesome with very good spread for the breakfast and good choices for the dinner both buffet and ala carte. The Manager took special care by understanding our needs not just at the hotel but also to understand our itinerary and suggest few corrections to ensure we had a great experience
Overall an Awesome experience and true Value for money, highly recommended for any one who is looking for an experience
