Too much over priced homestay in comparison with other places. The food cost is also high (650/- per peson per day). evening snacks are not included in this. the family room we have stayed not up to the mark with the tarrif. I have visited so many places near darjeeling, but this was not up to the mark. The meal menu was same for two days. I think its fixed actually. Too much oily food and only different types of potato items were there (difficult for specially sugar patients).
The blankets were not so clean, one of them was torned. these are very dissapointing.
personally I dont like the stay.
Thank Sayani D

Hi, Hahaha ... seems like you totally hate my place, no problem. Over-rated - OK Nothing Special - OK (although I still wonder what is special and what is not special). But over-priced?? - No, I don't think so. Our Four bedded rooms in which you stayed I presume, is priced at Rs 2200.00. Which means Rs 550.00 per person (four persons). Now, is that over-priced? And meals that includes morning tea, breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner for Rs 650.00?? I don't think that's over-priced either. Rather it's going to be Rs 700.00 from April 2019. Sorry, I can't take your criticism seriously, and I would rather laugh at it, as what you review here vis-a-vis other numerous reviews also in other web-sites, APART FROM TRIP ADVISOR, say otherwise. Best regards to you.

The property, rooms and washrooms were really clean and well maintained. The behaviour of the family is very homely and courteous – except one guy we came across. And because of this guy we had mixed experience. However the Lady (who happen’s to be Gurung’s Aunt), Mr. Gurung himself and other family members is very co-operating, helpfull and always smiling. Regarding the meals, I’d again say it was a mixed experience. We loved the fried fish and the quality of food served. However all the curries were made of up of only oil without any use of water, which is kind of an issue for us who are not used to the same. The meal plan costs Rs. 650/- per person per day and comes with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with Morning and Evening Tea & Biscuits.

Gurung’s are one of the well known family and homestay in this region and according to the reviews it seemed to be one of the best. Although we didn’t stayed at Abiraj (another popular homestay in this region) and thus I won’t be able to compare the same. However we really enjoyed our stay at Gurung’s. We chose to hire vehicles from Gurung Ji only as and when needed and I’d say the charge is quite economical and justifiable. The behaviour and friendliness of the driver’s who are from nearby villages, are something to really praise for.
Thank Krishnandu

We stayed at Gurung's place from 10th to 12th October this year and we are really happy that we chose them for our stay. It was a short trip. I contacted Mr. Dipendra Gurung via watsapp and email and the booking process was smooth.

We had booked for the cottage but as soon as we reached Mr. Gurung informed that as the super deluxe room was available they would like to give us a complementary upgrade. Needless to say that we loved the room. The super deluxe room was pretty large. It's on the first floor of a separate building in the same area. The size of bed was large, there was a cosy sitting arrangement in the room itself beside the window from where we got the view of Kalimpong and adjoining hills. There were two more big windows in the room , a separate divan, a kitchen ( not yet ready ), a large bathroom with geyser and comod facility. There were a few blankets on the separate cupboard as well. I have attached a few photographs for reference.

The room also had provision to make your own tea ( which we didn't use ) and television ( which somehow didn't work). Now since this is a homestay and not a hotel you need to be accomodative . There's no telephone facility and so you will need to look out for the guys if you need something. Which was ok in my opinion .

The food they serve is really good. Charge is 650INR per person per day. This includes breakfast ,lunch ,evening tea and dinner. If want evening snacks that will be extra. We didn't require anything extra. The proportions of meals were good and Mr. Gurung and his family serves the food themselves and ensures we are completely fill. I had emailed them prior to our stay that I was an eggeterian and they had arranged my meals accordingly. The ghee , crisp alu bhaja and imli chatni were excellent.

We had hired car from them for 1 full day local sight seeing and the next day for a return to Bagdogra. The drivers were good.
Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wishes to visit Tukdah or Tinchuley.

A unique place to stay for at least two days. We stayed one day and lamented it. The food was awesome, specially the home made ghee. Staffs and the owner was courteous. The view from the room was picturesque and the room included a private balcony which hung over a gorge . Return via Lamahatta was really enjoying

There are two Gurung place in this area, one is the Gurung Guest House and the other is Gurung Home Stay. From outside, the Homestay looks more elegant and nicely laid out but we were recommended to stay in the Guest House, which is supposed to be the best place to lodge. We stayed in the Super Delux room, which is on the top of the house and has a wild view of the ravine beneath.

The place was very clean, home cooked food was superb and to our taste and the best thing is that you are never alone while dinning; the Gurung family is always around to give you company. The adult family members were very helpful if you want to do trekking.

Overall, unwind for 2/3 nights or enjoy trekking from this place.

Gurung Guest House is not a Service driven Hotel or Resort. It is a simple mountain Homestay. Less

Deluxe rooms are bigger, spacious and come with room heaters, television and personal water boilers. However the Standard DBL rooms command the best views. Bagdogra Airport to Tinchuley: Rs 3000.00 (one way). GST applicable... More
