This is a heritage hotel. There are two buildings with one being more modern. Our room was in the heritage part. It was spacious with polished wooden floor all through. It was divided into a bedroom and separate sitting area. Both had electric radiators and a fireplace. Comfortable bed. Coffee/tea facilities available and good WiFi. There are no lifts in either building

The bathroom/dressing area was large with bath and overhead shower. Don’t forget to bring a portable plug for both the basin and bath. Water is very hot but it is necessary to leave 20 minutes between use. Laundry is cheap and efficient

Food was good. There were buffets for both breakfast and dinner. There was an egg station. The scrambled egg was perfect and not the usual chopped up omelette found in most hotels. Ashok was assiduous in ensuring that I had bacon each morning. Priyanka was also great both serving in the dining room and bar.

Location is close to the centre. Very helpful and friendly staff. Loads of smiles.

My 5 stars to this hotel. States there as a family with our 4 year old son.

Very convenient location and great ambience inside the premise. We stayed at the building named after Tenzing Norgay. Our room was in the 1st floor. We could not have asked for a better view of Darjeeling. Everything was in immaculate condition. The room, the washroom, the corridors, the staircase and the sitting lounge next to the reception were clean and well maintained. The outdoor sitting area has a nice swing with a good view of the town, which my family enjoyed. I enjoyed the whiskey at the sitting area next to the reception. The hotel has tastefully decorated the walls with photos from yesteryear.

The service of all the staff was excellent. Right from the front desk reception and waiters at the restaurant and the tea lounge sitting area to the housekeeping, room service and laundry service everyone was attentive to our needs.

There is no lift but it was not a requirement for us.

We are told the hotel used to be the summer palace of the Maharaja of Coochbehar and the ambience and experience bears testimony to the claim.

Wish the entire team at Elgin Darjeeling all the best for the future.

Regards
Sayan

This is a heritage hotel located just a few steps away from the Mall and the markets. The building looks majestic and the architecture typical of that found in the colonial era. The check-in was fast and easy. Our rooms were located in an adjacent building. There is no elevator in the building. If you are a senior citizen, you would prefer to have a room on the ground floor. The rooms were spacious and clean but appeared dated. The bathroom fixtures also appeared dated. The view from the windows was disappointingly monotonous. The large windows did not have a mesh; if you keep the panes open, you would be inviting insects and mosquitoes inside the room. There was a room heater but no A/C. So, it becomes a problem on warmer days. There was no desk provided in the room for working on the laptop.

The restaurant, which is in the same building as the reception, offered a good spread for the breakfast but poha, one of the items provided, was stale. For dinner, we ordered room service. This took ages to arrive; we had placed the order at 6 15 pm for delivery at 8 15. It finally arrived at 8 40 after much anguish and a bit of shouting. The servings were large and the quality was acceptable. The wifi in the rooms was just pathetic. The reception staff had some silly excuse, such as bad weather or cloud cover or something like that.

Overall, it was a comfortable stay but you would expect something better from an Elgin hotel.

We stayed at The Elgin, Darjeeling - Heritage Resort & Spa. Unfortunately, our experience during our stay was not good. The service was poor and there was a lack of proper communication from the management. The beautiful colonial heritage look on the outside is just a facade, the property is dated and in dire need of renovation. Everything about our room was very disappointing. The carpet was stained, the flooring had cracks filled with dirt and the bathroom was cramped with the tap and shower also not working properly. Forget any modern amenities, our room lacked the presence of even one proper charging point. The dining room was suffocating with no access to light and was filled with smell of food, especially eggs, during the breakfast time. The management was very off-handed and charged us for things their staff communicated were on the house. The only saving graces were the easy approach to Mall road, decent food and a few courteous staff members, but those were not enough to overshadow the flaws of the property and the management. They are overpriced and have taken the 'old world charm' too seriously, hugely overlooking the comfort of guests in their dated property. Overall, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasure stay.

My recent experience at The Elgin Darjeeling was nothing short of disappointing, marred by the hotel's of Ms. Subrata Nandy. From start to finish, it was evident that she lacked even the most basic training in guest relations.
The rudeness exhibited by Ms. Nandy was simply unacceptable. It was abundantly clear that they were ill-equipped to interact with guests in a polite and respectful manner. Their fake attitudes only served to exacerbate the situation, leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
Furthermore, the complete lack of coordination among the backend team members was glaringly obvious. It was as though they were operating in solos, the frontend team was completely unaware of the email that was forwarded to me from the backend. Adding to the frustration, most of the phone numbers listed on the hotel's website was non-functional, making it difficult to contact the staff for assistance. This lack of accessibility further highlighted the hotel's disregard for guest satisfaction.
What's more, despite providing ample evidence of a legitimate reason for canceling one of our booked rooms due to a guest's unfortunate accident, the hotel refused to issue a refund or provide a credit note for future use. Ms. Subrata Nandy's repeated abrupt call disconnections during our attempts to resolve the matter only added insult. We’ve almost paid 1 Lakh for 4 rooms for 2 nights. We’ve just requested to cancel 1 room before 72 hours of check in, that’s it guys. A perfect example of a big hotel with a small heart. I don’t believe how these guys are making it to the hospitality industry.
In conclusion, The Elgin Darjeeling offers subpar service at an exorbitant price. If you're looking for a heritage property with rude hospitality, then by all means, book a stay here. However, if you value professionalism and guest satisfaction, I would strongly advise against it. My experience with Ms. Subrata Nandy has left me deeply disappointed and disillusioned with this establishment, specially her rude behavior. I think she is a complete misfit for your organization, she is only fit for the hotels that charges less than 1K per night where the primary focus of the guest is cheap price and not services.

Dear Sir / Madam, This is in reference to you complain against Ms. Subrata Nandy, we shall certainly speak to her on the points highlighted by you & will ask for her clarification. However, in regards to your complain that hotel has not refunded the amount, we are unable to accept the point as the concerned guest booking which your agency was handling was for 01 Deluxe Suite & the room category you booked, the guest has checked in & the same was intimated to you from the reservation desk also. In regards to the report shared by you also, we were holding your reservation in a different name & the report shared was of a different person. You booked a Deluxe Suite for your guest & the guest has checked in into the room so logically there is no point for refund. The same guest has booked 3 other deluxe rooms from online portal separately & 01 of the room was a No Show. We have raised the No show bill as per our policy. Neither there was any information from the online agency for any cancellation. The booking was under non-refundable period. Hope we are able to clear your doubts as we have received only 01 room reservation from your agency where the guest has actually stayed. We are known for our services & the other guest's reviews speaks the story. We have repeat cliental who loves to visit Elgin for the warmth & hospitality which we are known for. Thanking You. The outdoor is a beautiful sight - a decent sitting area, swing for kids to enjoy and gorgeous flowers to brighten up anyones day. The premium suite rooms had all the amenities required for a short stay, however a deep clean wouldn’t hurt as there were visible dust and minor cleanliness shortfalls. If you plan to stay in the premium suites, be prepared to walk a few flights of stairs!

We opted for the package which included breakfast and dinner for our stay. The Orchid dining room food choices were limited and flavour in some of the dishes could be improved. There were limited wait staff, which meant we often had to wait for food and service. In saying that some of the wait staff were accommodating to our child dietary needs which made it a positive experience overall. In our downtime, we enjoyed playing chess and playing the piano available in the hotel.

Would recommend staying no more than 2 nights. We were there for 4 nights - it become repetitive and less enjoyable. The hotel is central to shops and some common eateries.

The Elgin Darjeeling reflects all the charm of yesteryear. Originally a home of the Maharajah of Cooch Behar, it is now a comfortable, peaceful haven for the weary traveller. Situated in the perfect location with a view of the township on one side and on the other, within walking distance, the wonderful Mall where shopping and relaxing and just strolling are favourite local pastimes. The hotel itself is full of charming nooks and crannies with elegant furniture and fascinating photographs covering the walls. The ultimate test of a good hotel is the quality of its staff and the Elgin passes the test. From Mr Badal (the manager) and Shrikant at the front desk to Ashok and Suman in the Dining Room, and all the others, you could not find a better group of people. Thoughtful and considerate, they make every effort to meet your needs, even to the point of providing a hot water bottle. Feeling unwell on my first day in Darjeeling, they catered to my limited dietary requirements without any objection. I cannot compliment them highly enough. Well worth the visit!

Heritage hotel but very clumsy, rooms have no view, at least they prefer to offer rooms which are dingy and claustrophobic with single window with filthy view. Despite most rooms vacant they prefer their guests to enjoy in such rooms. One of the rooms no 51 2 nd floor does not require bathroom as the ceiling itself acts as shower when it rains. Had I hopes for this property but comes out to be hopeless,

As a mockery they the reception offered to change the room but on the next day which happens to be our check out day,

Much better properties available at much lesser tariffs- so better stay away.

They offer limited time for food also which is impractical.

Starting from the very entrance the hotel is an epitome of beauty. The interiors were quaint and gorgeous, rather well beyond what can be described in words. I still remember the cookies and coffee we had at check in itself. The check in was quite smooth. The groundfloor room was bit congested as an extra bed had to be accommodated, may be the authorities can consider providing a bigger room in such cases; still we loved the room and the bathroom too was sparkling clean. The breakfast experience was good; food, not exceptional, but good enough. You can borrow books from the library and spend quality time reading them at the cosy lounge or the porch. The location of the hotel is perfect for covering the main locations in Darjeeling town; few minutes walk and take a turn, you reach the mall. Overall I definitely recommend this hotel and will go back again and again.

It’s a beautiful property overlooking the valley. We had the attic suite room with a fabulous view of the mountains and valley. The location of the hotel makes it convenient to walk to the Mall Road and local sightseeing.
The food and the service were very good and we had great time.
Please note there is no elevator for persons with restricted movement. One could opt for rooms near the reception and dining room.
Overall a great place to stay.
