We are one of the oldest (and prize winning) Colonial Hotels in India - with reviews from the Asia Pacific National Geographic Magazine and The Sunday Times of London. We offer truly authentic and original suites from the colonial tea planter days, with absolutely FULL BOARD (4 MEALS PER DAY). Our hotel is world renowned, with many famous film stars and other celebrities finding a path to our door. Truly a "destination and not just another hotel". It is like being invited as a private guest and asked to stay and relax for a few days. We are aptly described as "one of the last Colonial Homes in the World". We have both Colonial Suites & Cottages, as well as standard and superior accommodation.

It was a one night solo travelling … the hotel is beautiful.. at night a little spooky feels but overall a wonderful stay there .. great clean rooms …I just had English breakfast there .. the stewards were very nice to me … and it was nice to meet Anmol Rai (bartender) there with immense hospitality and great assistance.. I wish him all the luck ! PS it would be nice if the amenities or the supplies like soaps, shampoos ,slippers ,dental kit …etc were already kept in the rooms on arrival rather call the housekeeping and ask for everything .. that’s all from my end !cheers!!

This heritage hotel in Darjeeling will give you the opportunity to indulge into the luxury of the authentic colonial-era property . I am really grateful to them as they took care of my mom who travelled solo for the first time. I was bit nervous about the trip as my mom never travelled alone for holiday. But to my utmost delight, Windamere's impeccable hospitality almost filled the gap of our absence. The hotel staffs are very caring, always with smile and personal touch. My mom told me that she felt it was a home away from home. They kept in touch with me through Whatsapp to fulfill all my special requests. I am really thankful to the staffs for taking away all my worries. I want to specially thank MD Madam Ms. Elizabeth Clarke whose delightful company in the evenings made that trip extra memorable for my mom. She specially arranged the documentary film screening for my mom in the club house and had nice discussion over the history of Darjeeling. The moment you step into the premises, it will give you that old world charm. They intentionally have not renovated the original property, rather restored it, That gave it more classy and authentic look. I heard from my mom that the set breakfast and dinner items are superb. I will highly recommend this place for the people who want to go down memory lane and enjoy the serenity in Queen of Hills.

Booked preferred rooms and stayed for 2 nights. We had a great expectations from Windermere, however, highly disappointed. From outside property seems well maintained but there was spider in our room, it was not expected from renowned hotel like Windermere. Bed lampshades were broken. Also, plumbing issue was there, in one room water was not coming properly and in another room hot water suddenly stopped coming. When we called housekeeping around 10.00 pm, manager was not available, though they had told house keeping will be available till midnight. Next day they resolved plumbing issue and deep cleaned rooms. Wifi connection was poor.Management should take more care about these issues.

The windamere is definitely a dream destination for anyone who wants to enjoy Darjeeling in a more unique way.... The service of all the staf is excellent.. Specially mention Mr. Ajay, Ms. Prakriti and Ms. Shirin... All the housekeeping staff are really very welcoming and always ready to impress the guest... Food is awesome, restaurant staffs are really great... All the rooms are arranged with furnitures of old british era.. The location is best of among all the stays in Darjeeling... You may spent a no. days only by staying within the premises.. You do not have to go out any where else... Front office is very efficient... This property is basically a old history in the modern Darjeeling.. Lastly my sincere hats off to Ms. Clarke... She is always looking after all the details and trying to maintain the age old aura of the property, We stayed at Autumn and September song on 11//08 to 13/08

⏰ check in 12.00 check out 10.00 🌊View 🏸🚶‍♂️🏊‍♀Activities 🅿 Free Parking 🛫 Airport 70 km 2.5 hour 🚉 Rly Stn 73 Km 🐾Pets not allowed  🤷‍♂Language spoken: English, Hindi I visited this  Hotel in Dec 2021 with my wife. We checked in at 11.30 am and the process was smooth. The Heritage property (estd 1939) nestled near the Mall Road, offers various  staying options. We  booked a Double Room in a Cottage. Let us now move to the review of facilities and my experience ( Rating have been assigned in a Scale of 1 to 5 , 5 being highest):- A. Location : Located on Mall Road over the Observatory Hill, this hotel brings you a taste of Victorian styled English living in Darjeeling. The hotel itself is a Destinstion. The Red painted Watchmen's Corner at the entrance, Red Post Box, white wickets around the Victorian styled  pale yellow stoned 2 storied cottages with green roof, Victorian styled interiors, fire place in rooms, large area with trees, flower beds....you name it , it's there. (Rating 5). B. Room :  We booked our room through Make My Trip App , almost 3 months in advance and paid Rs 36000 for 3 nights with Breakfast. Being a  upscale property, this is pricey but surely value for money. Our Premium Double Room at the Ground floor of the Cottage 'Joan Townend '.The room was of good size , about 270 square feet, was elegantly furnished with modern fittings, has a large double bed with side tables on both sides, a wardrobe, a writing desk . Bed was rightly soft, comfy with matching linens . The  room was sparkling clean and has amenities like tea making facility, a separate sitting area with sofa, fridge etc . Adequate bottles of water are provided and tea and coffee pouches replaced every day.Victorian styled bathrooms was slightly small in size has a bath tub and western toilet system. Toilet is fitted with sanitary fitings of good quality . Toileteries like shampoo and body lotion were provided. Quality of toileteries are good. Room is bright, well lit and had good heating system. Pillows and quilt provided are very good. Additional pillows and blankets are provided. The best part is a fireplace, which is lit in the evening with one extra refill to provide warmth in winter nights and also gives nostalgic feel of bygone years.(Rating 5) C. Facilities : The resort had all facilities that you require for a relaxed holiday in the hills. The entire sprawling area  of the property is kept in its original British form. Outdoor lighting  of the property , at the pathways are well matched to the theme. There is a large reception area,  indoor games, children's playing room, bar, club rooms etc. The travel desk take care of all your travel needs. There is s view point from where you can have a glimpse of the snow peaks. Kanchenjunghaview point is 5 minutes walk and famous Mahakal Temple also at the other end of the approach road of the hotel. If you go to  the end of the hotel area, you have a nice view of the entire Mall . (Rating 4.75) D. Dining options: The hotel has a spacious, Victorian decored Dining Hall, where proper English or Indian breakfast is served between 7 till 10.30 am. There are choice of set menu that starts with juice and follows with cereals, egg to your choice served with potato and sausages, bread basket and ends with Pot of Darjeeling Tea or Nilgiri Coffee. The entire breakfast, the way it is served , the uniformed service staff, the quality of food makes it heavenly affair. Lunch and dinner also are served in the same dining room. We used to pre order our dinner from the selections of the day and food was also awesome. (Rating 5). E. Overall service : The hotel appoints a team of trained, well behaved , helpful staffs. All requests were met immediately with a smile. The team of staffs are very cortiuous and always available to give best service to the guests.  (Rating 4.85) F. What more may be done: Strictly speaking, even a veteran International traveler like me couldn't not find any point of thd hotel that needs improvement..  Overall:  Location, solitude, space and view, Victorian ambience, well appointed cottages,  great food ...all are some of the pluses of this hotel. IF YOU HAVE NOT STAYED IN WINDAMERE,  YOUR DARJEELING TRAVEL IS INCOMPLETE. But all the above comes at a steep price. But if you can afford this, it is truly Value for money and you will be enriched with lifetime experience.  (OVERALL RATING 5)

It is located adjoining to char rasta. Lovely view and a Raj-era ambience. The breakfast and dinner is served in typical British style. Worth an experience. It's a throw back to colonial era. Warm and courteous staff.

Gem of the Himalayas. One of the best properties I have ever stayed at. Warm, hospitable and amazing staff. Exquisite rooms. Excellent food. And a location to die for. What an experience. Leave with a heavy heart but with a promise to come back again, soon. Thank you Windamere Darjeeling.

We were a group of 8 who spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at the Windamere. Since I felt conned, let me put down why I felt so: 1. There was no water in our building from around 6.30-9.30 am. Many people discovered this after embarking on their ablutions. This was handled in as pathetic a manner as can be imagined. A clueless girl at the front desk who was forced to lie through her teeth; invisible senior management till 2 hours in to the crisis; and absolutely no apologies from anyone for the trauma. The only person who showed some leadership and tried to pacify irate guests and distribute bottled water was an elderly housekeeping supervisor. 2. There was no coordination between departments. Despite there being no water, the dining room supervisor refused to serve an affected guest (and misbehaved) saying that the lack of water was the guest’s problem. This, in front of the so called hotel general manager, who was completely aware of the problems. Interestingly, there was a building opposite with bathrooms and even a shower, which would have sorted out the immediate problem while the plumbing problems were being addressed, but affected guests were left to their own devices. 3. Food seemed to be in short supply. The hotel runs on set menus and you pay for everything that is on the menu. However, our experience was different. The promised ‘hash brown’ turned out to be a tiny helping of mashed potato (see the pic) and ONE cocktail sausage (although we got more when asked). The point is one had to ask for what should have come automatically. One of the courses during the Christmas dinner was ham and pineapple. This was completely passed over. When asked, I received a small portion on a tea saucer. When I insisted that we wanted the course for everyone at our table, a larger helping was produced. 4. For a hostelry that proudly calls itself a colonial hotel, playing old Hindi film tunes on a synthesiser at Christmas dinner seemed a sad decline. The food was good and wholesome; most of the outdoor staff were excellent; the location of course is great. The rooms have seen better days, but were not a dealbreaker for us. Although the gap between Windamere’s pricing and that of other luxury properties in Darjeeling has narrowed, I was not convinced that the Windamere was value for money. Had it literally lived up to its reputation as a ‘country house’ with a convivial atmosphere, plenty of food and drink, and interesting company, may be it would have been with the price for the experience. But for that the ownership and management need to have imagination, a genuine desire to look after guests, and some grace, all of which was singularly absent in our experience. The supervisory, management and office staff need urgent training (our struggles with the booking process almost deserves a separate post). The Windamere is currently a confused place: a 2 star hotel with 5 star prices masquerading as a colonial hotel with boorish owners who seem to have entered the hospitality industry without understanding basic concepts of hospitality. Caveat emptor!

Well we booked through booking.com and were promised superior rooms but ended up getting two different rooms of different sizes in a thirty-year-old block (OH) on two different floors. The colonial facade is, of course, fake and the smaller room has a TV inside a wardrobe with hardly any space for your clothes. This is the so-called Roy Bahadur room. The food is great, the location excellent and the owner (Elizabeth) amiable. This is till checkout time. Right at 11 they start calling you up, and if you protest that booking.com advises stay till 12.30, they shrug it off. We requested time till 12, and when I lost it, Elizabeth decided to shout at me. It isn't that the property is bad, but it can take you for a roughish ride unless you know the place well. Ensure you check in no earlier than 1pm and check out at 11 on the dot. Again, choose your rooms wisely if you want an 18th century experience. Finally, don't dare take on the front desk, they'll let Elizabeth loose on you.

Windamare is a very romantic and has a very old world charm. Windamare is one of my favorite hotel I have stayed so far, the location is spot on, the service is extremely good , the colonial architecture is absolute treat. The view from observatory is exceptional . The Staff Sanjay and Sankalp were very helpful and went out of the way to help us in a family emergency. Big thumbs up for them. It was a great experience.
