We are one of the oldest (and prize winning) Colonial Hotels in India - with reviews from the Asia Pacific National Geographic Magazine and The Sunday Times of London. We offer truly authentic and original suites from the colonial tea planter days, with absolutely FULL BOARD (4 MEALS PER DAY). Our hotel is world renowned, with many famous film stars and other celebrities finding a path to our door. Truly a "destination and not just another hotel". It is like being invited as a private guest and asked to stay and relax for a few days. We are aptly described as "one of the last Colonial Homes in the World". We have both Colonial Suites & Cottages, as well as standard and superior accommodation.

Exceptionally good hospitality with ever helpful staff who were always smiling. Hotel was occupied for film shooting. It was very disturbing. Wouldn't go if shooting is on. Location can't be more convenient. Food requires improvement.

It was a mixed experience. When we reached Gandhi Bhavan on 20th Dec. (peak Christmas week), we noticed that stalls were put up on the approach road to Windamere for the upcoming Melo fest (organized by Darjeeling Police). We called up the hotel, talked to the police, but then cars were not being allowed on that stretch. Staffs from the hotel came immediately for the luggage and my parents were escorted via wheelchair up the slope. We were allotted Rooms in the Observatory Block (No. 1 and 11, Sardar Bahadur). Rooms were cosy having a typical European style with radiators and other amenities as is expected from a top-brand stay. Staffs were altogether very helpful, friendly and catered to whatever we asked for. However what surprised us when the following day the staff showed a small menu card for breakfast. After finishing our breakfast, the chef had personally came to us and told that he can make Roti/ Puri and other Indian delicacies in case our parents or our kid wanted. That's when we told what is the point of telling after we finished our breakfast. I think nowadays most people including us are comfortable with a buffet type set up rather than pinging them multiple times for one food or the other. I feel they should either display all available items or provide a buffet set up. Some construction work was going on which on enquring learnt that a new Multicuisine restaurant was coming up which hopefully would eliminate these drawbacks. Check out was also simple and staff again assisted with the luggage and a car for drop to our next stay. Overall Verdict: Nearest to Mall, Lovely area for a serene environment, good colonial interiors, but definitely overly-priced and hyped compared to the services offered and given the fact that it doesn't have a proper view of Mt. Kanchenjunga which most tourists seek.

our plan was to stay for two days but considering their attitude and unprofessional behaviour had to curtail our stay for one day only. I was told that they have a staff strength of 60-70 personnel but everyone vanishes in night except a guard. Nobody attends the phone (landline or mobile) and worse management is not bothered even when only two rooms were occupied on 31st. For a hotel which charges 12000 rupees for a single night, you expect a lot more hospitality than they offer. Food is very basic with strict timings. Not a happy experience.

My mother and I stayed at Windamere for three nights recently and thoroughly relished our time here. The hospitality was top-notch! Everyone from the dining staff to the housekeeping staff to the reception staff were all so courteous and helpful. The property itself is soaked in nostalgia for a bygone era. The room was so cosy and the food, especially the continental food, was great. We’ve stayed at Windamere numerous times before and it was lovely coming back to it after 8 years! We hope to be back here again soon.

We visited from USA with family during Christmas. First of all we booked months ahead, but they gave us two rooms quite far from each other. Then one of the rooms which was in the main building, you cant even lock or unlock the door without fiddling with the keys for a minute. The carpets were worn out and dirty with patches. The other issue was that the geiser was not working the day we checked in. They fixed the geiser but only the hand shower was working. My in-laws and kids could't have a proper shower for the entire stay. The room heaters were not effective at all, and it went off few times due to overload. It seems they just added several room heaters without properly checking the electrical system. And to top that, you have to pay for the charcoal fire in the room. We all pretty much caught cold after the stay. And on Christmas day we had to have room service dinner ( dinner was included in the package) since they had the paid gala dinner for outsiders in the dinning hall. And to top it, on 26th morning we asked for tea at 7:40 am, they said they can only serve after 8, since they had a gala dinner the night before. This is really ridiculous after paying so much money. Please avoid this hotel. The only good thing is the location, but the management really needs to improve or just replaced.

Very bad experience with their Christmas dinner. Not a good value for money as the food was low quality and very poor service. The staff were extremely rude towards the guests. I witnessed the hotel staff treating paid guests with disrespect.

This centrally located hotel provides the standard tourist amenities. The staffs of this hotel were warm, welcoming and treated us like an extension of their own.Breakfast at the hotel is well worth getting. They have a good variety of food, and the cakes are all homemade. We had booked for Christmas dinner. We enjoyed the carol played by the children's there but there was an uncultured group who created a havoc and we could not enjoy our dinner properly because of them.Rest everything was really well and the management was really nice and cooperative. The central location was convenient for walking everywhere. Ms.Chettri, the manager, will take good care of you! 😃 Thanks for making our visit to Windamere Hotel that much better.
