it is an great attempt to create an ambience that takes you back in decades. all aspects have been thought through to try and create an old world charm. great staff and service and the location is right in the heart of the town but still quiet and peaceful. that is the best part. We liked the coal fire burning...

What can i say. This place delivers on all fronts. While it may not have the bling that many modern hotels boast it delivers in terms of service and beautiful surroundings. Rooms - Depending where you stay expect traditional furnishings down to a tin bath, with shower, in ours. Country cottage themed we felt we were back in 1940s England....

Everything we'd hoped for and more. The staff were courteous and friendly. The food was excellent. Our room was full of character (and smoke from the coal fire until the chimney was unblocked). We enjoyed every minute of our five nights at the Windamere.

This hotel is a bit like stepping back at least 90 years in time. The rooms are all a bit rusty if but very charming. Having a fire lit in your room and a hot water placed in your bed felt like the height of luxury. High tea was such a treat and the rooms delightful. The meals are 'out...

We arrived following a long walk up from the botanical gardens. High tea served inside a cosy room within the windamere. Plenty of tea and a tasty selection of finger foods - for the price it was good value. The service was fluid and they helped solve a problem of a dodgy teapot that didn't pour properly. Outside are beautiful...

This really is an oasis in the center of the 'city' of Darjeeling - in some ways the rooms trade colonial correctness for travelers function and mind your head in tha bathroom but the whole place exudes a peace and tranquility which is unmatched - stay here if you can. I do like the GM and staff were always on...

Thank you, thank you, thank you The location obviously helps, it is after all the best in Darjeeling. But that is just location. The charm of this Colonial property is complimented by the charm and caring nature of their team. Food excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Elizabeth is a lovely host. We hope to see you in Saddleworth soon! The...

What a gem of a place! The hotel is perfectly located within Darjeeling (right on Observatory Hill), wonderfully atmospheric, and--most importantly-- imbued with a sense of history. This a local institution, with a deep reverence for India's past and its Himalayan peoples and traditions. The food is superb, and the staff are wonderfully attentive. I can't recommend this place enough....

A fantastic location close to the top of the hill, next to the joint Buddhist and Hindu temple. (Watch out for the monkeys.) A series of small colonial buildings which have hardly changed over the years. Good facilities including a real coal fire, hot water bottles, lockers for valuables (but I can't imagine anything being taken from your room), and...

Theye were booked on one of the days I wanted so their GM Shovana Rai suggested Ivanhoe House owned by them, nearby. By the way - DO NOT BOOK VIA TRAVELGURU-- they will cause a lot of mess and trouble for you. Visited Windamere. They were very very gracious and welcoming. Happened to meet and had a good chat with...

We are one of the oldest (and prize winning) Colonial Hotels in India - with reviews from the Asia Pacific National Geographic Magazine and The Sunday Times of London. We offer truly authentic and original suites from the colonial tea planter days, with absolutely FULL BOARD (4 MEALS PER DAY). Our hotel is world renowned, with many famous film stars and other celebrities finding a path to our door. Truly a "destination and not just another hotel". It is like being invited as a private guest and asked to stay and relax for a few days. We are aptly described as "one of the last Colonial Homes in the World".
