Beautiful asthetics, spacious rooms, beautiful views from the room balcony. If the weather is clear you can view kanchenjunga hills
Hotel is built on a height, you come to the reception using lift. All the rooms have valley view. Rooms are very huge in size. Overall property is quite large, spacious, has huge restaurant. Food - They have the best food in this town. Trust me I am a big time foodie and their food is the best. They only serve vegetarian food. Must try - Jodhpuri aloo dum, I was here for 2 nights and had this in main course both days. Their breakfast buffet spread is comparable to a 5 star property. They also provide complementary high tea in the evening which includes tea, coffee, cookies and a snack samosa or a bread pakora.
This property is at 20min walk from the mall road clubside stand point.
You should call this hotel directly for the best deals. It is mostly sold out online but do try to call and check for availability.

We stayed at Istana during our visit to Darjeeling, we were welcomed in traditional Nepali style. Istana is well located and is about 10 mins walk from Darjeeling Chowrasta (Mall road). The resort provides gorgeous views of Darjeeling hills and the Kanchenjunga room we stayed at was very spacious and provided amazing views of the town. The property is very well maintained with ample amount of space, specially for the kids to play, its a place were you would want to sit back and relax. The resort staff were very courteous and took care of all our needs. The breakfast spread was lavish and food tasted amazing. Without any second though we would go back to Istana when we visit Darjeeling next. Highly recommend this hotel.

Can you expect freezing cold water after paying 8000 plus for a room in December at a property which boasts itself to be a 4 star hotel or resort. With temperature in Darjeeling around 5 degree Celsius be prepared to a freezing nightmare as this so called luxury hotel only provides hot water for 5 hous a day. Timings 7am to 10am in the morning and 6pm to 8 pm in the evening. They do not have running hot water supply at other hours so you have no choice but to abode by the hotels policy of rationing hot water supply. While I had planned to extend my stay in Darjeeling I would now have to look for another place to stay. Feeling cheated.

Istana is by far one of the best resorts in Darjeeling offering premium hospitality coupled with breathtaking views of the Darjeeling town and the Kanchenjunga range. Personally, I had a wonderful stay there. It is in close proximity to town but not too close for comfort. Excellent service, panoramic views from the rooms and the delicious food. Istana has you sorted!!

My nephew made resrvation for me and daughter and son. The beautiful cavernous lobby was freezing cold. The rooms were freezing cold. The hot water quit after 5 minutes, the bathroom flooded and became so slippery that I almost fell. The exhaust fan did not work and the bathroom as well as the main room were filled with fog from shower. The electric room heaters were no match for the size of rooms. Indded the management supplied me with extra balnket but I still was freezing an old man of 77 years. Askded for slice of lime lemon and there was a resriction of 2-3! The hotel was empty and I think we were the only people there. The hotel in appaerance is majestic and is spacious but not prepared for visitors in cold weather and looks like the staff has no understanding as to how to address this matter. I did find that all other properties in the area has similar issue. The Buddha retreat had a warm lobby and relatively warm rooms as well as electric blamkets in Ravangla and Kaya resort in Pellinng furnished similar amenities. I think there should be govenment initiative to prevent making slippery floors in bathrooms and that is common findings in private houses and hotels universally and I am certain that many people fell and acquired injuries. Staff at Most of the places looked at me and think I have something wrong with me asking for non slippery floors in bathrooms but I know it is a life thrteatening hazzard.

The property is vast, located on the hill top and less than a km away from Keventer's. It is a very well maintained property, with open terrace where from you can have a great view of the mountains (if the weather is clear) and the city below you. The lobby is well decorated and very big. It has a good restaurant serving variety of tasty food (but ONLY VEG), a bar, banquet hall etc. The room (310) was well maintained. However, there were some stains on the tiles of the bathroom. Could have maintained it a bit better. Staff/ housekeeping was good. Overall a good experience.

Iam from Visakhapatnam. Visited Darjeeling and stayed at Istana. The location was exquisite and breathtaking. The hotel is also very beautiful having very serene and calm atmosphere . The view from the room was too good and you could just sit in the room and view the hills and relax before going on your tour. The food is very very good. Firstly it is a pure vegetarian hotel. For vegetarians it is a boon as you can eat without any qualms. The breakfast spread was very tasty. Even their menu has variety and I trust you can order anything and be assured of good food.
I did not mention any one specifically here because in the restaurant the attending boys are all good ,but I felt the entire team is good,the chefs,the manager,giving suggestions according to your taste. They all were marvelous. Food is the main thing when you go on tour and they have it here. My suggestion to the hotel. Please try to arrange the foot massaging machines atleast one in every floor. It's a very nice hotel, with amazing view. It's location is very nice, not far frm mall road nd even railway station. FOOD is super delicious. D staff is very decent. Here MAP menu also has options as many hotels have limited and fixed menu for MAP's, but here they r very flexible with dis. Dey even provide complementary tea nd snacks in evening, as this is chargeable in other hotels. It's a best place to stay...

This is an excellent property in Darjeeling located in 5 to 8 mins walking distance from the busy Mall Road. I visited the place for the second time and everytime I visit, the place has something more to offer. We opted for the Family Room located in the top most floor and I must say they have everything in order to make one feel comfortable. The view of Kunchanga from the tarrace of the hotel specially in the early morning is jaw dropping. Mr. Kiran Thapa from F&B really took care of our need and ensured that we get the best of the food and service. My 1 year old daughter required special arrangements in terms of her food and I must say.. Mr. Thapa ensured that she gets what she requires. I would recommend this hotel to all and I shall myself visit the place again whenever I visit Darjeeling. We really made good memories...
