About Arcadia Heritage
Arcadia is part of the property bought by Sangeet Bhaskar Shyamanand Singh in 1945. He was a classical musician and a billiards player of national repute. Only a few people are aware of the fact that Vivian Leigh, the famous Hollywood actress (Gone with the Wind, A street car named Desire) was born in Shannon Lodge, an annexe of the main building and studied in Loreto Convent for a few years.

And the views - the views were just something else entirely!! In our room there was a large window and a balcony, and from there were could see beautiful mountains and even the Kanchunjanga on a few clear mornings! We would argue that the view from our room in Arcadia had no worse of a view than Tiger Hill. The attached photos are taken from our room's balcony.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Anandi arranged a great driver for us several times, always helped us if we had any issues (for example once we couldn't figure out how to switch on the boiler) and was always pleasant to chat with. Ashish brought us food a billion times, always with kindness and a smile.
The hotel is located a little further away from the loudness and crowds of central Darjeeling, which gave us a quiet and peaceful stay during which we could enjoy the natural beauty we had come for. The Peace Pagoda was a 20 minute very steep uphill walk away (only for the brave) and the Dali Monastery was a 10 minute downhill walk away.
There were no drawbacks for us personally, but I can imagine it being hard for some people to walk up the steep hill to reach the hotel. Quite a few drivers refuse to drive up to the hotel. To overcome this issue book a driver through Arcadia itself, and the driver will always bring you straight to the door.
The hotel is a small property with 7 rooms, Premium Rooms with King Bed and Family Rooms with 2 double beds. The rooms are wood panelled, much larger than standard rooms in star hotels with a large bathroom. The toilet fittings are top quality, there is geyser in each bathroom so tghat you have 24 hours hot water. toileteries were provided and were replaced everyday
Tea coffee maker was provided in the room. Every room comes with a private balcony and with a fabulous view of the Kanchenjunga. You can see the spectacular sunrise from your bed itself - I presume very few hotels can boast of such a view from room. The beds are large, super comfortable, and provided with a bed warmer !!!!!!! We didn't need a room heater even in the month of January because of that only !!!! Though heater is provided on request at a charge of Rs 300/ per night. Manager Mr Dev Singh is very well behaved and helpful and all the staffs are marvellous. The food is of very good quality and including buffet breakfast which is made as per order.
The approach road to the hotel is steep with 3 hairpin bends - but our innova could reach the hotel without much issues. Parking space is very limited , inform the hotel beforehand if you are travelling with your own car.

The one drawback of the resort is the difficult approach road to the resort from the main road. It's a steep and sharply turning road, quite narrow, and not in the best of conditions. That restricts ones mobility, especially if you are a senior citizen. The resort arranges transport to and from the resort, but still one misses the freedom to just stroll down to the center of town. Let's hope this problem is fixed by the time we make our next trip. Which we certainly will.

At breakfast if the crowd is more they are not able to handle, so go early for breakfast.
The approach road to the resort is very steep and narrow, so some drivers will find it difficult to drive up, and also, it is a task to walk to the resort from the main road.
The view from the room is excellent, you wake up to see the Kanchenjunga and have hot Darjeeling tea with the great mountain. It is truly a wonderful feeling, cold breeze and hot tea.
My photos are not modified, the orange sky is sunrise and purple sky is sunset. And view of the cute train from the walk along the property.

The food here was awesome and very reasonably priced. Rooms are large / spacious with bed warmers. It’s not too far from Mall Road either if you have your own transport or willing to take share or reserve taxi’s it’s 15mins.
The only thing to watch out is access road to this hotel is very steep and you need to walk it up as taxi sometimes refuse to drive up. For Sr citizens this will be very challenging.
Overall a good decision. Thanks

"The hotel is horrible . There are loud sounds of maintainance going on inside the hotel which they didn't stop even after complaining. "Read full review
