Detailed Reviews
I had been recommended to the Clarion. I had a wonderful room with double aspect windows - one view of the city & sunset, and the other of the sea & sunrise.
I was greeted upon arrival by Naveen who was very helpful and welcoming.
I praise Mr Vijay Kumar and his housekeeping staff, including Dinesh & Thiru. They were a delight.
The breakfasts were tasty with dosa and eggs freshly cooked. There was a choice of wonderful South Indian food, plus pastries, juice, fruit and other western delights.
One of the highlights was eating in the restaurant - 18 Degrees North. I was served by the lovely Clara, who made a number of fabulous recommendations.
Chef Kiran Kumar produced food that was quite exquisite in flavour, especially the fish.
The chef came to our table on a number of occasions to check on our satisfaction.
For people staying at the hotel, a 50% voucher off the total restaurant bill is available from reception.
The gym is small but serviceable, and the pool on the 2nd floor has a good degree of privacy.
On my last day, all the housekeeping staff came to my room with 6 red roses and a cake, to thank me for staying at the hotel. I was so moved and delighted it was all I could do to not shed a tear.
Located in Mylapore, it is safe and close to Marina beach and the Lighthouse. The Chennai City Centre, a small shopping mall is just a 5-minute walk away.
I would 100% recommend the Clarion. It is my new favourite hotel in Chennai, I look forward to my next visit.

Spacious room in the heart of the city at the great rate is a big plus for Clarion Hotel President. Stayed overnight during a short trip to Madras ( aka Chennai) .The quality of bed and the location of room on the higher level ( level 9) ensured a good night's sleep.
The experience at the breakfast buffet was bad. Being a Sunday, buffet restaurant, Twenty Fifth Hour was crowded around 0930 hrs. The dining area is simply not sufficient for the in room guests and the restaurant crews are overwhelmed with the lack of seats and guests waiting for being seated. The management could consider splitting the guests by having another breakfast venue for the guests staying at the higher category of rooms at the speciality restaurant next-door to ensure a pleasant breakfast experience for all or just having the additional seating at the speciality restaurant with a mini buffet of pastries, cereals and fruits and beverages sections will reduce the pressure on the staff and a good experience for the guests. I regret that I have to do some nasty things like grabbing paper napkins by myself from the sideboard, leaving soiled plates on the next table as the waiting staff are not to be seen due to the number of guests and the difficulty for them to set the tables, manage the buffet and attend the guests.
Cooked breakfast selections were good-both the Indian choices and the western ones.Pastries, seriously need some quality control as the Croissants, Danish pastries, rolls are all flat and hard.
Bathroom tiles grouting, vinyl flooring of room needs some repair.Hand towels or paper napkins in the room are required to wipe off hands and any spillages on the writing table. You could consider having a footrest ( ottoman) for the chair in the room for a cozy feel and comfort.
Wifi connectivity was good. Hot water temperature in the shower was good but the pressure could be better. Bharat in Front Office was prompt in getting back to me on my enquiry for the booking confirmation.Inter department communication between FO- HK seems to be good as Balaji ( HK) swiftly delivered coffee sachets and water bottles when my request was actually received at the reception.
Surprised to see a Jalur Gemilang flying at the main drive way of the hotel.
Would recommend for couples, groups who prefer staying downtown on business or leisure trips.

The restaurant staff is cold, no one welcomes you, dirty tables left as it is without clearing, no where to sit, no food in the buffet area, no cup's to have tea/coffee have to wait for about 10 minutes for a cup. I also found a cockroach just behind the chef's cooking area, it was running in/out of the bowels which was left for the guest's to be served. when i told the chef about this she was just staring inside the cup's and didn't do anything, i have to warn a guest who asked for a bowl not to get one from the tray who thanked me for making him aware.
Local guests shout in the restaurant, both loud talking and using mobile phone's, no one monitors the buffet area, there was no clean plates have to ask a female staff who was just standing and asking for room numbers, she just say's i'll get the manager. The room is dusty and the shower cubicle block's and there is a problem and smell's of sewage, i mentioned several time to the reception staff but it was not sorted. i will avoid this hotel at any cost. our stay was not good and the restaurant need's to be cleaned. please be aware, i can't imagine how dirty the kitchen will be. The food hygiene authority should visit this hotel and make a decision to whether to keep it open or close for refurbishment.

+1
Visited with family and advise others to avoid unless the management takes corrective action to restore this place.
Pros:
1) room size is good
2) was allowed to extend stay till 4pm, but there could be a reason you will understand from the below
Cons:
1) the place has been left to shambles
2) no security guard at the entrance
3) hardly any staff to serve guests. We had one person who took our luggage and then he was serving at the restaurant as well. The same person trying to manage all this.
4) did not see any other guest in the hotel
5) the place was dark and eerie
6) mushrooms blooming due to dampness in the wall
7) broken switch board
8) no hand towels
9) no buffet breakfast
The hotel is not worth a penny spent. #Agoda should stop selling this and the hotel should bring it down unless they are aptly staff to run the property.

Being a frequent professional traveller to Chennai, Hotel Clarion President has been my choice with no second thought.
Staffs are extremely courteous and polite. They are at your service 24/7. Even the smallest feedback is taken note with utmost priority and ensured it’s completed within minutes.
Rooms are Spacious and hygienic which is important factor during the pandemic times.
Food is desirable and affordable. Good spread at the breakfast buffet.
Certain tourist places are in the near catchment. Hotel is situated in a prime location for easy accessibility.
Strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for Safe And Blissful Stay.

The hotel is situated in a good location for Marina beach, the Club rooms are big, spacious and comfortable and the normal staff are friendly and helpful. However, the management here prance about in suits and have an extremely high opinion of themselves. Customers are certainly beneath them! So, for example, I was left waiting for my taxi whilst the manager dealing with the booking strolled off for his tea. When he finally decided to return, he sorted it out. Expect this attitude for anything you ask of them.
Despite this, it is possible to have a reasonable stay here. The gym is just a cupboard and the pool is like a big bath tub, so don’t get too excited about those “facilities”, but breakfast is reasonable, rooms large and location for the beach is good. That’s about it.

Despite there being a part shut down, Priyanka accommodated us and made us feel so relaxed and at home. She went above and beyond to ensure that we were cared for and able to enjoy a delicious meal at their restaurant. The food was excellent and well worth it.
