The biggest USP of the hotel is the distance from Chennai Central Railway station (Chennai Park station is close by to catch local trains). It takes just 5-7 minutes to reach the place on foot from the station. On top of that, it is very, very affordable as compared to other hotels in the vicinity. I had called up a few places in the same locality which simply quoted double the price for the AC room. This was then the obvious choice.
The hotel building feels slightly constricted but that's negligible. The room was nice and clean. Soap and towels were provided promptly. TV is functional with good amount of channels. AC worked perfectly. The bed sheets were slightly torn at the edges but it can be overlooked. The AC water outlet was in the washroom itself, which was causing the floor to remain wet, but again it is not an issue. The affordability of the place makes you forget everything.
Staff is courteous. They speak Hindi, English & of course, Tamil. There is a tea shop right outside which provides eatable etc. There's a pharmacy on the right as well. Food is usually brought from outside, so you can just walk to the restaurants itself. Autorickshaws & taxis are almost readily available right outside. There's a travel advice counter by the front desk to help you move around the city.

Value for money, spic and span rooms, good and spacious rooms with courteous staff. Only draw back is the approach road is narrow and the hotel does not have a eatery attached but thats not an issue since plenty are available at stone throw distance.

The room is bit small but manageable. Value for the money. staff are courteous and helpful. The disadvantage is that there is no catering service, but it is arranged by the hotel staff. for Central Station or any local station (Park or Egmore) you have to walk atleast 5 min.

I stayed at the hotel from 30-12-2012 to 01-01-2013 after making online booking through 'cleartrip.com'. I was visiting Chennai with my wife and 2 children. The booking was made for 3 adults and was duly charged for extra bed. Even the photograph on the site showed the room with 3 beds. Yet upon reaching the hotel, one moron namely Santosh, manager of the place, told that only extra 'mattress' and not extra 'bed' would be provided as according to the hotel policy 'cot' is not part of extra 'bed'. Upon being asked about the photograph of the room as shown on site, I was told that the room is not available. On being asked about this cheating, Santosh was brazen and rude enough to say that people make online booking to save money and then expect world class service. On this I told him that everyone has right to save hard-earned money. Later, he even asked me to pay extra for my 10-year old child also which I paid. Overall, what was supposed to be holidays with my family was ruined due to cheating and fraud by Samudra Inn. If you don't mind being treated as freeloader just because you booked online and don't mind the stink and smell and the seedy and shady feeling of the place, then go ahead and have experience of this place. Definitely a place not to stay with your family at any cost. Also, I now believe that those writing good reviews about this hotel are somehow fake or paid.

I booked a room at Samudra using clear trip. These Clear trip people are very clever indeed. They never inform you on the check in time till the booking is completed. Once I booked the ticket, I got to know that I can check in only at 12.00hrs. So I called Samudra inn and informed that I will be arriving early by 5.00AM and leaving by 2.00PM. They said it can't be done or else I have to pay 300 Rs extra. Then I asked about the location and nearby landmark for the hotel. The person from Samudra inn, Just said periamet and nothing else and hung up the phone, When I was about to say thank you the line was disconnected. Seeing all the reviews from trip advisor about Samudra inn, I made a mistake of booking this room. I don't know about rooms or other facilities but the staff was so impolite. Good bye to Cleartrip and Samudra inn. Will never use you again in my life.

Booked through hotels.com, the pictures are clearly NOT from the last years... I have only one good thing to say, and that is that the staff was fairly polite, not overly helpful but was not expecting that either...
Now to the rest... I have stayed at hotels were I have paid 200 RS a night that have been better than this! (payed 1000 here, they charged more when we stayed an extra night and they were not even full). If I had known more abot Chennai at the time I would have changed hotel.
We payed for A/C - did NOT work. TV - did NOT work. Bathroom was filthy with spiders and swarming with mosqitoes. The bed was NOT clean, found stains and hair in it. Charged us RS 500 for staying 3 hrs extra, have a 24 hrs checkout system so wanted us to checkout at 6 am!
Someone would have to pay me a lot for staying another night at this hotel!

Lets be clear that this is a cheap hotel and the standard must be judged based on that fact. The rooms were full of mozzies and were dirty but it could have been alot worse for the money I guess. I will never stay there again personally.

I asked for one room for three adults one day prior to my visit and on phone they said rooms is available but when i went there with my family the staff at reception started asking a lots of stupid questions they asked for id and address proof of all members i gave them but i have a driving licence in book format and he was saying that its fake...very terrible experience...one of auto driver helped me and found me a decent hotel near to this hotel to stay...he said that they always do this thing with students and north Indians...i was ready to pay money what they asked for i was giving them all the id and address proof but still they were asking lots of questions. i was not able to understand why he did this with me...i was with my Fiance and her brother ..i dont know about others experience with this hotel but mine was terrible in my life i will never go to to this hotel again...

this hotel truly made my tour disastorous,the rooms are really dirty,stained bedsheets,dirty blanket,etc and off course STINKY environment.....poor room service,dim lights........it is one of the worst hotels.

We had booked this hotel as this was near to both Chennai Central and Egmore Railway station and we had to board the trains from these on two different dates. The service of the staff is commendable. Mr. Santosh who was at the reception gave us a warm welcome and was very friendly. The room service guy was of great help. The hotel does not have a restaurant and we asked the guy to get us food from outside and he got us really nice food for reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Yes. I think so they allow.
It is possible for the same day check in and check out, however you can't expect the price to be less for that reason. Yu will pay the full day rent. They will arrange vehicles for rent, but I would suggest call taxis coz it's cheaper.
