Umaid Mahal: Heritage Redefined In contrast to the modern-day touristy whirlwind trips that are over before they even begin, a trip to Rajasthan can be a relaxing sojourn that heals the body and soothes the mind. A stay in Umaid Mahal-A Heritage Style Boutique Hotel in the heart of the pink city Jaipur, a family-run, heritage style boutique hotel can take you back to the bygone eras where time stood still, and life was more about savouring each moment rather than rushing through them. The owners of Umaid Mahal-A Heritage Style Boutique Hotel, Wing Commander Bhim Singh Rathore (retd.) and his wife Arti Rathore belong to the erstwhile royal family of Borunda. Their royal heritage is clearly reflected in the beautiful frescos, jharokas and the intricate carvings that adorn the walls of this four-star facility hotel. A traveller need not go overboard with his budget to experience true royalty. The warmth and hospitality of this family home truly defines the saying, ‘Athiti Devo Bhava’ or ‘Guests are Gods’. So, if you are truly looking at spending some moments of peace and joy away from the hustle bustle of the maddening world, come and stay at Umaid Mahal-A Heritage Style Boutique Hotel. Let the sun-lit courtyards and balconies rejuvenate your soul and infuse your body with new vigour and vitality. Sitting in one of the many terraces, you can gaze at the millions of stars that adorn the night sky. Let the colourful paintings and designs take you to a journey far beyond the mundane. As our guests, you are no less than the greatest of royals. We offer world-class service since we believe that your wish is our command. Come, give us a chance to show you how truly royal you are!

Hotel's Favourite
This is a beautiful heritage hotel in a great location.
We booked a de luxe room which was large and beautifully decorated. The hallways also had lovely long lamps in keeping with the style of the hotel.
The service was excellent and we had a wonderful dinner in the roof top restaurant which was accompanied by a cultural show!
The paneer rotis were superb!
It was value for money too, and we will definitely stay there again if we return to Jaipur.

The hotel is a typical Rajasthani "haveli" or home that has been converted into a hotel. The staff are pleasant and helpful and make you feel comfortable. Considering that we travelled in peak tourist season, the hotel was very modestly priced and included a buffet breakfast with eggs to order. Rooms are clean and comfortable and have a small balcony to sit out. Amenities like kettle, safe and toiletries are available.

We stayed here twice for 2 nights on bed and breakfast basis. Staff were excellent, rooms were good and nice dining area with a good choice for breakfast. We eat in on both nights and the meals were great and good value and there was some entertainment on both nights which we enjoyed. The location is out of the way which we enjoyed for our short stay.
We have given this hotel a top rating as it is amazing to look at from inside and out with a lovely roof-top bar/restaurant, the architecture was incredible!
The wake up a call that we booked to catch our train our last day did not happen but luckily we woke up in time but a bit disappointing.
Overall would recommend this hotel for short stay.

This hotel looks fantastic - beautiful exterior, traditional rooms and lovely 'lobby' areas on each floor with incense, shrines and flowers.
The rooms were ok, but a really poor nights sleep as it was so noisy. Staff generally ignored women and spopke only to the male in our party.. which is quite annoying. Great showers but the bathrooms could do with a refurb.
The restaurant, however was fabulous. Great staff, great service and fantastic food. a really atmospheric rooftop setting to have dinner. They also put on entertainment on Christmas eve which was brilliant - Rajastan music and dancers. The menu was Rajastan/Chinese/Meditteranean.
Delicous dal, curries and breads.
Breakfast was ok - shame the dining room in the basement is a bit sobre.
The hotel is a bit out of town (about 300 rupees in a ricksaw to the old town).
The hotel organised pick up from the station and early morning trip to the Amber Fort.

The Maid Mahal combines Indian heritage style with a decent level of comfort by western standards. The building is beautiful, the location required a tuktuk to get to other places. Food is very tasty and recommendable with a wide Indian variety (we did not check for western food). We had a gala dinner buffet on the beautiful open air roof top, as well as menu orders in the lower level restaurant, adjacent to the small but pretty pool area (separated by a door). Architecture of the building is historic and well maintained. Service we found to be very forthcoming when we needed extra items for the bathroom or anything else. Both nights we had live Indian folk music and dance; potentially a bit on the loud side for everyday consumption (creates a need to speak up at the table) but as a two time experience we welcomed it.

Stayed 2 days at the Umaid in Jaipur and was nicely surprised. The decor was reminiscent of the Mughal period, which gave it character. Breakfast was ample with a good variety of dishes. Rooms were on the small side and bathrooms could use an updating. However, service and staff were responsive and we had a pleasant stay.

The hotel was well appointed - very beautiful visually with lots of artwork, painted walls and ceilings and good furnishings. It was a little out of town, but not an issue as there is car parking available. The hot water in the shower was only warm, which would be a problem in winter (I stayed in September when humid and warm so not a big deal). The room was very comfortable and clean however, and for that I think it was worth the price.
The restaurant was the big let down, as the first two dishes I tried to order for dinner they were out of (one fish and one veg), and the bar only had two types of beer despite having a full bar menu provided to guests in their rooms. The breakfast was also quite average, with terribly weak and flavourless masala chai and flavourless, runny eggs. If you stayed here, I would suggest eating elsewhere.
All in all, I

To be honest this was my third choice initially, but so GLAD I picked this place. It was everything I hoped for but better. Rooms well equipped with locker/ hair dryer , TV , coffee maker etc etc and the house keeping manager makes sure the room is spick and span every day, which is very important for me.
What really stood out was the service. I have only seen this kind for service and attention to detail to keep customers happy only in 5 stars ( be it front desk, house keeping, Room service , restaurant).
Breakfast is good. good variety on the menu and tasty food.
In reviews I normally give atleast one point of improving for the place. But with this property I have none.
give the swimming pool a miss.

Umaid Mahal was a real contrast to all the sprawling palace hotels that we had been staying at in different cities of Rajasthan. It is a many storied house converted into a hotel. You go through a warren of rooms, one leading to another, then suddenly emerging in a courtyard, then meandering back into its depths as you try to make your way to your room. Every single wall was embellished with paintings, lights, murals, flowers, curtains and valances. . The ceilings were flooded with floral murals, and every room was littered with sofas, chairs, artefacts, lamps, tables, curios etc. Not the best place for anyone even remotely claustrophobic.
The only 2 positives of this hotel was our room , huge, with two kingsize beds and a really long and large dressing room with twin sinks, a plethora of toilettries and lots of space for our belongings. The other plus was the service, which was very prompt...and the food was excellent. But there is no escaping the fact that it was an over embellished nightmare. With no garden or grounds, it was like living in a townhouse converted into a hotel.

With so many places to choose from in Jaipur we were fortunate to choose Umaid Mahal. As we were booking during the busy Jaipur Literary Festival they were initially unable to accommodate us during all of our stay but did arrange for us to also stay at the sister hotel - Umaid Bhawan. Fortunately a cancellation came up and we were able to spend all out time in this delightful haveli. All our expectations were met or exceeded including the friendly and helpful staff, the delightful and comfortable rooms, and the excellent food and service, and the location. A special thanks to the manager Ajay and the bar manager Baljeet for helping make our stay so special. We also thought that it was very good value compared to other accommodation we stayed at in Rajasthan.
