The Narain Niwas Palace Hotel, a Heritage Hotel, provides a good example of history amalgamating with modern times. Centrally located in Jaipur, the Pink City of India, the palace was built in the 19th century by General Amar Singh Ji, the then Thakur of Kanota. Designed in a fanciful version of The Anglo-Indian style popular in the Victorian Era, the palace now serves as a hotel. The Palace has all the modern amenities and a place where one can enjoy traditional Rajput Hospitality. Decorated with Rajput Flourishing, Rajasthani Furnishing and Traditional Jaipur painted wall decor in a typically bold colour palette; Narain Niwas was built in 1928 by General Amar Singh, Thakur of Kanota, and Commander of the Jaipur State Force.

This is an historically protected hotel dating from the mid 19th century.
Situated close to the busy part of town, but a visitor would be unlikely to go “shopping” on their own the shops are directed to local shoppers rather than any attraction for visitor
The externals are impressive, large garden areas at the front and an impressive entrance
It was the rooms, and the area at the rear of the hotel that let the organisation down, that an a rather ordinary service.
The first room we were shown had two single beds, but each was a long way off the ground. Also the bath had a fair degree of dirt in the bottom and obviously had not been cleaned. We refused this hotel outright but management seemed not to car too much in finding a replacement.
We were shown a second. Same set up but a double bed, with a very firm, thin mattress. We chose to stay in this as there were no better.
The air conditioning was very loud and could not be left on overnight. We needed to tresort to an overhead ceiling fan to keep the room cool, but even that was noisy, and seeming ready to fall from the roof!
Grounds at the rear, used for recreation etc gave the impression of having been flooded, the grass is almost non existent with almost mud exposed.
Although the building is heritage listed, maintenance levels are quite low. I needs a great deal of improvement.
Dining area is in line with the historical protection orders, very impressive. Good meals although probably not as extensive as majority of hotels
Wifi was almost non existent, cutting in and out every few minutes. Could not rely on this at any stage.
Note for the traveller:
Our room was not made up when we returned at 3 pm on the second day after a tour. On calling Reception, and waiting 30 minutes for some action (which never came), we resorted to going to Reception personally. At that stage we were informed that we needed to leave the key at reception when we left in the morning as a sign we needed to the room cleaned. This was news to us as we were not told when we booked in,and we had never experienced this procedure in our many overseas travels.
I would have great reservations about staying at this place again, or recommending it
All staff very friendly but English limited

Beautiful garden with two (independant) restaurants and a pool tucked away from the main building. Rooms are individually furnished and differ in size. We preferred the ones in the main building on the first floor that face an inner court yard with lounge furniture and traditional swing.
A nice breakfast being served in the main dining room, decorated with period pictures and memorabilia.
Staff was polite throughout, but at reception just average.
Location is ok, but a bit to far to walk to the old city. A tuk-tuk will get you there in no time for 40-50 Rupees.

I have been staying at Narain Niwas Palace for over fifteen years. I return there twice a year. Every time I arrive I feel as if I am 'at home' in India. It's a truly rare and precious hotel, palatial but with an old-world air, and still owned and managed by the princely family that built it a century ago. They carefully protect the authentic style...while adding to the amenities, the garden, and the restaurants on the property.
My recent stay was particularly enjoyable. The longtime manager and his front desk staff are helpful and welcoming. There are no crowds, mostly people who return year after year.
The staff order taxis, provide special amenities and are helpful with requests and making a guest feel welcome.
The 10-acre garden offers a swimming pool and sunny places for relaxation.
In addition, in the garden is the chicest restaurant/bar in the city, Bar Palladio, with trendsetting interior decor and a choice of Italian cuisine.
Among other great pleasures of staying here are the peacocks that wander around the grounds, I'll never forget the first time I stayed there...and opened my windows in the morning to see two peacocks perched in a tree just nearby.
. UNESCO recently listed Jaipur officially as a world heritage site. Narain Niwas, with its own authentic history and tradition, is a historic treasure. It is my favorite hotel i Jaipur.

We have recently stayed in this place for two days and I would not recommend anyone for the following reasons
Staff are not welcoming at all, they don’t make eye contact or greet you anytime.
There were lizards on the outside of our room wall and some insects/bugs inside our room, we had to close our luggages all the time so that those insects would not go inside our luggage.
Our room consisted of a small seating area, bedroom and a bathroom, only the bedroom had the AC. We used to turn off the AC when we go outside and turn it on when we come back to our room in the late afternoon. In about 20mins, the bedroom temp was 22 degrees (we set it to this number) which was great, but the bathroom temp remained about 32 for a long time, we kept the bathroom door open so that cold air could go in there. I am sensitive to temp differences, and got a migraine headache on the first day.
We were three people, the bedroom had two twin beds, so we needed an extra bed. The extra bed mattress quality was very poor, after two consecutive days of sleep, I got back pain.
Bathroom shower was very basic with a shower, a bucket and a curtain, no tub.
Breakfast choices were very limited compared to other hotels we stayed at with similar price ranges.
There was a cat who was waking us up early in the morning with a high pitch noise.

A quiet location in a busy city. The main building has lots of early 20th century memorabilia (though feels more Victorian era). To reach our bedroom we had to climb up a stone staircase to emerge onto a large courtyard with our room (101!) off it. Our room consisted of a small seating area, bedroom and fairly large bathroom. At night we were brought hot water bottles to keep us warm! Be warned - the restaurant at night is outside and fairly chilly (blankets outdoor heaters provided). Very good buffet and music and dance spectacle to watch. Breakfast was adequate. Staff all very courteous.

Superb grounds with pool and lawns all served by an industrious waiter who rushed around his guests as if his life depended on it. This, the peacocks and the superb breakfast on the veranda fortunately managed to eclipse the quite surly service elsewhere. Staff in reception cared little to make eye contact and our evening waiter certainly seemed to want to be somewhere else, if he was not already there.
The room was ample to the point of being impersonal and the bathroom smelt of somewhere half of our population are not permitted to go.
Otherwise, this was a great bolt hold from which to explore Jaipur.

I had booked two rooms at the hotel to bring in the new year with some friends. The rooms were really underwhelming , specially since the pictures looked pretty good. To begin with, they (the pet-friendly ones that I had booked ) were rather small for a palace hotel and cold looking (white marble floor) with no rugs to add any warmth or colour. Also, the fridge in one of the rooms was leaky . And the rooms had not been deep cleaned, specially given the fact these were COVID times
But the most disappointing was the breakfast... Tasteless and no variety . This was the only palace hotel with such a poor breakfast spread .
On the plus side were the good restaurants that served delicious lunch and dinner. Also, the location of the hotel was really central ( close to most places)
and yet it was quite secluded. And the lovely grounds and lawns were great for walks.

Entered the hotel with great expectations, but totally disappointed with the room provided. These rooms are not that clean and great for the money they are charging. They are just like lodge rooms with a bit of heritage touch. Staying here in the standard room with the huge price tag is totally money waste. There are much better hotels who charge less than this and provide 100 times better rooms, amenities and services. Please check all other options, you will get better hotel. You will be given a room in separate wing may be they are servant rooms, you will not get room in main haveli or other good looking buildings of haveli. Till now I travelled in 13 states of India and I never get such cheap quality room for the price they are charging in the entire hotel range I stayed. Never ever choose this hotel if you want to stay in their standard room.

We stayed in a deluxe room. Now we expect basic things to be neat and tidy in a deluxe room. Surprising was as u enter the room, you feel a WOW effect and soon it starts dropping your expectations. The chairs which have plastic net is so old that you can see feel the dirt. The sofa covers are too old a d when you spend on such royal suites, you expect them to be clean. We understand that not everytime it would be new, but these seemed at least 8 years old. The bathrooms do not have aldrops to lock from inside. The food cost wise does not match the quantity at all. Mobile charging points are next to none. Had to remove the night lamp connections to have the charger in use. Overall it would not recommend at least for the deluxe room. Not aware of other rooms. Breakfast was tasty which I can give 5/5.

A very attractive building and grounds but that is about all. The rooms, while large are very dated and not in the best of condition. Interesting dining area for breakfast (most basic breakfast in all our travels in India). Not all the lights could be turned on in our room and the fan wouldn't work (too cold to worry about that). the maintanence man came promptly but it would be a big job so we told him not to bother. Personnel (front desk and porters) were probably the least friendly and polite in all of our travels in India. (Though the individuals in the breakfast room were very polite and helpful). I would not stay here again - not that it was terrible - but this is not special, except in reputation, so I would try something else.
