I went to Jaipur on the first of March 2020 expecting to stay at the Hotel Savoy for a month. Little did I know that the one month would become eleven. Do I wish that I had made a different decision and not chosen to go to Jaipur? Do I wish that I had chosen a different hotel in Jaipur? No and No. I turned 69 last year. I have lived a full life. I thought that there was little left to learn. But my stay at the Hotel Savoy was a life changing event. Not least because of my gracious hosts, the Kapoor family. We shared the long covid lock down together and became friends. When I left at the end of January 2021 it was not without a tear in my eye. I will always know that there is a place in India that I can call home. Thank you, my friends.
This hotel is in a pretty good and walk able location. The staff try their best to accommodate any needs you have. The staff were phenomenal when we both got sick. They were extremely attentive and concerned about us. They were always cheerful and friendly. The hotel also gave a discount because we stayed longer than a few days. The only downside we found was that our bathroom fan was connected to the outside where a gas or diesel machine made the bathroom smell very unpleasant. The diesel smell made us quite nauseous and was negative to aiding our stomach issues.
Cons Old, decrepit, run down Wifi horrible keeps dropping 2 single duvet sheets horizontal on bed to cover the double bed stains all over them Old dirty sheets to lie under No coffee/tea making Facitilies No soap or shower gel No toilet roll No safe, some staff (bellboys) dressed like beggers not employees and were eyeballing us felt unsafe Shower is basically a bucket under a tap nd u wash yourself with that. Constant smell of white spirits and paint and nobody even told us works would getting carried out before or after we checked out. Place needs a full referb not a lick of paint. Car horns start at 6am and end at 2am Couldn't get to room one evening as the painter was on the stairs on his ladder. Can hear receptions phone all nite. Seen 4 different people on reception in 2days and got one smile Pros Central locations…
Pros: 1. Location: MI Road, extremely accessible, Enough autos and other transports available 2. Restaurant : Very nice breakfast and extremely reasonable. Poha, paranthas, omelettes etc are great and very well made. The price would be Rs 250 for two people including everything like tea, coffee etc. 3. Safety: Yes, safe for family or couples. Not sure if it would be great for a solo traveler, may be if you stay out the whole day and just sleep in the night, then yes, recommended. 4. Very close to the local markets like Johari bazar, bapu bazar etc and restaurents like Niros etc. This place is 2kms from most of the touristy places which is fantastic. If you are negotiating with the autos or tuk tuks - 3kms is rs 50. anything less than that in terms of kms is to be negotiated proportionally. 5: Lift exists and works so taking the luggage up and down was no issue Cons: Room: For the cost, its great but wont be perfectly clean. Bedsheets would not be always washed stuff. Its a very old hotel so don't expect alot. Bathroom: Is well equipped with hot water all the time, the sink, wc were clean. But the bathroom overall is not going to be very clean looking. Its an old place, they just probably sweep it, thats all. Extremely noisy - there were other room people leaving at 4am and they wrecked the place with so much noise and the walls and doors are so so thin, you can hear everything. The traffic on the road was loudly audible. Reception: Not a very nice person across the desk. He took the IDs and kept it with him for hours. We had to follow up couple of times. Was not very helpful. Summary: Great location, fantastic breakfast, Old property so don't expect much, Extremely noisy and zero privacy…
