I was nervous that I wouldn't like this place, but I found the beds comfortable, and it was clean...I think it was 300 rs split between me and my friend. it was a small room with a western style bathroom...it was quiet, and close to lots of things without being super chaotic. there were lots of nice cheap restaurants around, as the one in the hotel was expensive for me, but I was on a pretty tight budget, still cheap compared to Canada... there was a pool and much nicer rooms available with ac...I don't know how they were.

for a budget I would definitely grab it...

but I was there in 2010. :)

I don't think it is fair that the Evergreen - Never clean tag line has been attached to this conveniently located hotel. They have a saying in India that "old is gold", though this hotel is a wee bit tarnished, but certainly no worse than other Indian hotels I've stayed at.

My wife and I came to stay at the Evergreen in November of 2011, she for the first time and me for perhaps the third or fourth. We chose this place in particular because it is close to Aziz's shop, an old friend I've known for nearly 25 years.(he is gold by the way). It is located close to the main post office and the railway station, making it a perfect location, especially for the price.

The old girl has gone through some changes over the years. The garden where the restaurant once was is now part of the more expensive part of the hotel and fenced off from the more budget minded part we stayed in. The new restaurant is upstairs and still serves the same good food as the old one and at the same low prices, despite the fact it is a "traveler's" guest house for the most part. As a matter of fact I can report that the food here, and the service are far superior to that at the Ambria in Udaipur where location seems to be enough reason to gouge on price and offer up horrible service as a side dish.

Although nothing special, our room was large enough for my wife to practice her daily yoga routine and had a largish bathroom with hot water shower.

The staff are friendly both in reception and in the restaurant and as helpful as can be. I had no complaints at all about the Evergreen and recommend it to anyone looking for accommodations in that part of Jaipur.

I was here in late 2004 and had a very pleasant stay. I returned in july 2012 and had my mind set on staying here again. I was taken to one of the rooms by one of the staff, and changed my mind. The rooms are filthy, the sheets are stained, the bathrooms smell, and the floors are very dirty. The once lush garden in the middle is now half dead and burned brown, the cosy restaurant has moved from downstairs to upstairs and lost all its charm. The swimmingpool is badly kept and they now charge everytime u want to use it... have recommended this place to so many others and feel really bad for it now. Stay away! You can get 100 x nicer places for the same price

Read the bad reviews, see a dated room, but spend a few days here and you will see why, despite what people are saying, The Evergreen is a legendary hotel.
Set in the heart of the worlds largest gem/jewellery market place, this hotel offers basic rooms surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden... you could almost forget that your in the centre of one of Indias largest cities.
A great social atmosphere,multi-cusine restaurant, reasonable WIFI, and room service!
If you need any more your spoilt!

I planned to go to another gest house but I didn't like the price. “Evergreen” was the nearest one so I decided to check it despite of previous slogan I heard: “Ever green – never clean”. Maybe it was true the other day and was the reason to delete this hotel from LP2009 but now they really try to come back. Just rather good “backpacking standard”.
