Getting there
Good for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The hotel is walking distance to the Victoria Terminus, not even five minutes. Rooms are very basic but clean, very small as a shoebox, no space to move around. No windows. Breakfast is included and served in the room: coffee or tea and toasts, that's it! Wifi only at the lobby, signal very strong. Staff very friendly. If you have an early train to catch is the perfect choice, otherwise there is so much better out there.

This hotel is located in central area accessible from CST and closer to all key areas thus making it ideal for business travelers. The rooms are small and tariff is expensive yet due to locations makes convenient place to stay. Hotels provides simple breakfast too.

Only reason we stayed here was we missed our train at CST and this was the closest hotel we could find at 11 o'clock at night in Mumbai. Its old, antiquated, and the lift should be in a museum - but at least it had a lift. The rooms are very small. However, they were clean. No views and some very interesting smells, just like the rest of Mumbai. Found it to be very expensive for what we got.

In this July, as our onward train was in early morning from CSMT, we stayed for a night in this gem. Just a 5-min walking distance to CSMT. Rooms, ambience, services etc. were excellent. Blindly consider this when you are in Mumbai and around CSMT.

The hotel is opposite of CSMT, so very centrally located. The rooms are clean and equiped with all the basic amenities. We had 5 rooms on 2 different days, some of them had a quite low ceiling, but if you don't plan to spend here all your day, it's ok. The hotel has a very good price/value ratio.

This hotel has lot of very small rooms. The location is perfect (2min from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus) but the price is sooooo high. I know we are in Mumbai but still, 1700 INR for a double bedroom is too much for India and for what we had.
The workteam is always asking for tips. You have 1 worker for the lift, 1 who's carrying your bag, 1 for the room service, 1 at the reception..... And they all want tips LOL

Got a small room with shared washroom at an expensive price compared to other hotels. Rooms are too small and no view outside. It's like staying in a ship cabin just enough to sleep. Though it's in the core of the city not value for money. Breakfast is included.

It cant be called hotel, first of all to reach to the room you have to go for small hall with very low ceiling,in the hall there are the common toilets, small and dirty with intense smell pee, the room is storage room with two very small bed, walls full of dams and insects, everything dirty. You cant reduce the ac and its very cold but if you unplug it is worst because you can feel the pee smell. The service horrible too,the staff were very rude. I booked it because we had to wait for the train for some hours but in the end we left the room and we had to wait in the rail station.

This is a very low budget hotel, and for those on a shoestring budget, offers some very small rooms with shared bathrooms, which are dirty. The room I stayed in had no window, no furniture etc and large enough for only a single bed to fit in, and only an AC in the name of creature comfort! Can't think of anything else to review, as there is nothing else!
Location is near CST station, from where local and long distance trains originate. There are budget restaurants nearby, including McDonalds.
Consider this hotel ONLY if on a very tight budget.

I arrived in Mumbai without a booking and several places were full. City Palace had a room. I took it not realising how bad it would get. The room was tiny -barely bigger than the single bed, windowless and actually was one room divided into two by a sheet of plywod, with the AC unit split between the two rooms. The shower and toilet rooms were further up the corridor. At all times, make staff were loitering around the corridor and didn't seem to have anything to do. Later that evening, I went to go to the shower room. I was shocked to find that the wall did not reach the ceiling and I could see every corner of the adjoining shower room. When they said 'communal bathrooms' I didn't think that they meant it in such a literal sense. The toilets were filthy. The washbasin was in the corridor. As I cleaned my teeth, four male staff stood behind me watching. Then one decided that the lightbulb in the mirror light, which did not work, needed replaced. He was leaning right over me as I was trying to clean my teeth and I had to yell at him to wait until I was finished. Goodness knows how long that light had not been working.
When I went back to my room, I discovered that the plywood around the AC unit was not well cut and I could see right into the room next to mine. I stuffed the hole with a towel. There was no door bolt, and the lock seemed very flimsy. I slept fully clothed. Male staff were sleeping in the corridor overnight.
In the morning, I got up around 9am to visit the bathroom. Still fully clothed, as I returned to my room, two male staff were waiting behind me with cleaning materials. I told them I was not checking out now very firmly and asked them to leave. Check out time is noon and I did not understand the hurry. As I walked into my room, one of them walked in behind me anyway with a duster and spraycan. I went crazy, yelling in the corridor at him to get out of my room. He left. I was furious as I needed time to get ready and it was not check out time.
I think this place is probably fine for couples or men, but I recommend that single women avoid this place like the plague. In two months of travelling solo in India, I was never as nervous as I was when staying at the city palace.

Hi,
There is no bar in the hotel. However right below the hotel is a wonderful vegetarian restaurant. Also there is room service available to order food vegetarian as well as non vegetarian.
There are more places to choose from in the Mumbai area.
