The Residency undoubtedly is going through a rather trying time because of the Hutatma Chawk Metro works but having said that the very attentive staff in all areas of the hotel give such exceptional service that most guests are prepared to overlook the slight inconveniences of the location which otherwise is perfect for exploring South Mumbai! Plenty of small shops and restaurants within a hop skip and jump distance too! I wish I could name each and every member of the staff because everyone does aim to please! The reception staff – Lawrence, Peter, Sushant, Mr.Patil, Toral & others are extremely accommodating following their motto “service beyond a smile”. The Hotel's other motto is 'Come as a guest, leave as a friend' and I most certainly left the hotel feeling very valued like an old friend! Keshav’s addressing me Madamji and waiting on me very attentively at the complimentary breakfast time and the complimentary 'Masala Chai' time at other times in the lounge was genuine and very touching! My son was very fortunate to experience this too when he visited me a couple of times. The Complimentary breakfast is indeed very sumptuous - freshly cooked breakfast dishes like Chole, Puris, Samosas, Idli Sambhar, Dhoklas, Pohe, Upma, Sheera, etc., + Chef Girish takes orders for eggs cooked “as you like them”, fresh waffles, dosas, etc. Plenty of regular breakfast items too - fresh fruit, juices, baked goods, cereals, tea, coffee etc all served by the ever smiling Balwant and a happy Keshav often humming a tune! And bottles of water are always freely available. I don't drink coffee which made dear Keshav rather sad as he was an expert in the Latte Art. One American lady sitting next to me at the breakfast table shrieked with delight when presented with a portrait of a lady in her latte. I mustn’t forget the ever helpful & courteous Rajesh, one of the first staff members who would show the guests to their rooms. If you needed transport, Rajesh would very kindly help you book it or walk to the end of the street to hail a cab for you. The cheerful cleaners Shivam and Saahil would greet me in the mornings and ask if I needed my room to be cleaned or if I needed extra supplies of water, towels or loo rolls. On my previous trips to Mumbai, I stayed with relatives but this time I wanted to experience Mumbai as a tourist and Residency proved to be the right choice for me for a comfortable, safe & a very happy stay – a longer stay than most guests – 14 days! I wouldn’t hesitate to book Residency again on a future visit to Mumbai! A Very Big Thank You Residency!

I had an incredible stay at this hotel in Fort Mumbai! The staff truly made the experience unforgettable with their warm hospitality and genuine friendliness. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with smiles and exceptional service that continued throughout my entire stay. The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, and the hotel’s central location made exploring the city so convenient. If you’re looking for a place where you feel welcomed and cared for, this is the perfect choice. I can’t wait to come back!

We stayed for one night in the Residency Hotel in Mumbai's Fort district. This is the perfect location if you want to visit the main sights of Mumbai and everything is walking distance, such as the Gateway of India, the Taj Mahal Palace and the CSMT (previously Victoria) Station. The hotel has great air conditioning and is lovely and clean. The staff are very attentive and will go above and beyond to accommodate you. This includes offering reasonably priced tours and holding your luggage for as long as you need after checkout.
When we arrived at the hotel we were shown to the beautiful executive room, which had a four poster bed and lovely en-suite. It was very modern and felt tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, despite being right in the centre of it.
Breakfast was nice (served until 11am) with filtered coffee and a selection of fruits and cereals. The highlight was the omelet and waffle station, where we had a fresh omelet made on demand, ingredients chosen by us. This was delicious and the staff were almost begging us to have seconds!
A particular thank you to Gopal, who made us feel very comfortable whilst we were waiting for a taxi to pick us up and take us to the airport. This was a fixed price of 800 rupees. Whilst we were waiting Gupel served us a lovely tray with tea and biscuits, which was a really pleasant end to our stay.
Also, checkout is 12pm, which is such a treat- I wish more hotels would do this.
We would stay here again for sure

I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. There is currently construction of the Mumbai metro nearby, which leads to noise in the rooms in closer proximity. This construction also has the effect of entering and exiting the area a bit more difficult and taxis sometimes don't want to bring you all the way in. In maybe 8 months or so, this issue will go away. The hotel was built in 1941, which is before India even gained independence from the British! But it's well-kept considering this. Hallways are narrow, some rooms are small, but I believe it an overall excellent value. The staff here is experienced, with many years of service. They are professional, guest-focused, friendly, and will go out of their way to help - with things such as arranging taxi/Uber rides, directions, and more. The included breakfast buffet runs from 7:30AM to 11:00AM, which is longer than most. And the buffet includes made to order eggs, dosas, and a variety of breads, muffins, chicken sausage, waffles, Indian dishes, fruits, juices, cereals, chai, cappucinno, and more. The service and the buffet here are as good or better than at more expensive, higher "star" hotels. Of course, this is not the Taj, but I don't think you can beat the value offered here. Another benefit of Hotel Residency Fort is its location. Most of Mumbai's best tourist attractions are located in South Mumbai. From this hotel, you could walk to Marine Drive, the Gateway of India, and more, if you want. I mostly used taxis, and it was nice that the rides were short. Here are some additional details about what to expect in the hotel room: a safe, Dove shampoo, body wash, and liquid hand soap, TV, kettle to boil water for coffee/tea, instant coffee and tea packets, AC unit with remote control, and rainfall style shower with handheld option. There are not irons/ironing boards in each room, but they have them available for use in the hallway. Also, there is no gym, but they have a sister property called Astoria at which you can go, and it's not far away. Another things about the rooms.... there are actually 3 different sections to this hotel: (1) main building with about 30 rooms, (2) annex with about 10 rooms, and (3) "Pavri" building with another 10 or so "heritage" rooms. Though I didn't stay at the latter one, I believe that the rooms are largest there. The main building is nice to be in because the breakfast and most staff are there, so I'd recommend this option, with a larger room. All 3 locations are in close proximity to each other. The area where this hotel is located has many places to eat nearby, most of which are Indian. The Fort area is an older part of Mumbai and that used to be more business oriented. Over the years, businesses have shifted North, and this hotel has become more of a tourist hotel than a business one. During my stay there, I met people from the UK, Spain, Japan, and more. I want to conclude by thanking the staff for their professionalism and friendliness during my stay. They made my stay memorable, and it's likely that I will return.

Despite its modest appearance the Hotel Residency Fort was the cleanest and best maintained of over a half dozen Indian hotels I stayed at. Add to that the very attentive staff - most noticeable at breakfast - and you have an unbeatable combination at a reasonable price. Many Western tourists stay here.

Be forewarned there's a lot of subway construction going on that blocks access from the main street. This can confound taxi/tuk tuk drivers unfamiliar with the area.

The nearby Fountain Park restaurant has a varied and inexpensive menu of Indian food and is rightly popular with locals.

The hotel’s located slightly off the main road, and took me a while to get there. However the location was fantastic, a good jump-off point to the attractions nearby, and food around.

Service was aggressively friendly, nothing that would shock anyone, but being of Asian culture, I was taken aback at the beginning, but grew to love how they made it a point to remember you and your whereabouts (if you’ve mentioned to them). Special mention to Rajesh, the 2 elderly gentlemen manning the reception, the other concerige who wasn’t wearing a name tag, and the server who served me at breakfast, and also room service. Even the housekeepers while they passed me by in the hallways were ever so friendly, not overly, but just genuinely friendly. When I was up early one morning at 5.30am waiting for my tour guide, the night guard (?) made sure he waited outside with me till the guide arrived.

Room size was decent for a backpacker (not if you have luggage like me), a queen sized bed and small walkways on the side, a small dresser, and a toilet. Small but I was happy that there was a window that provided some natural light, aircon worked quickly, room was spotlessly clean.

If I’m headed back to Mumbai, this would definitely be a place I’ll stay again, especially for the hospitality of the people.

This was my Second stay at Residency so this stay was more as a friend and less as a guest! I got a very warm welcome by concierge Rajesh Rajodia who couldn't have been more delighted to see the passenger emerging from the taxi! His customary Good Morning Maam immediately turned into a shriek of delight. Sushant Dalvi at the desk had very kindly already arranged for an early check in for me. After a quick freshen up in my lovely room in the annexe next door I went for breakfast where Peter welcomed me back! The cafe staff Kesar, Baloo, Chef Girish were delighted to see me. Every morning from then on I felt totally at home in the cafe. Kesar and Baloo often without being asked anticipated my likes and so I got excellent table service and refills of my favourite masala chai! The buffet breakfast included in the room price caters to all tastes. Fresh fruit, fruit juice, cookies, cakes and some popular street foods already waiting under domed dishes for the guests to choose and enjoy! But it is their freshly prepared items to individual tastes like eggs as you like them, omelettes, dosas and uttapams, waffles etc.that I saw other guests too enjoying most. The new staff member Jeeban too takes pride in preparing and presenting dishes just as Kesar is famous for his expertly decorated lattes! A big thank you to some very interesting guests I got to chat to at breakfast. Thanks also to the ever smiling Pushkar at Reception and Concierge Gopal for his help during checkout! God Bless Residency!

Had a great 2 night stay at this hotel, which is situated in a great location and a good price. The staff were all really very helpful, especially the main guy behind reception. Unfortunately we took his name but no longer have it. We got an upgrade on our room which was massive and amazing. We had a late flight out on check out day and were allowed the use of another for a couple of hours to relax and shower at no extra cost. This didn't compare to the room we had but would have been happy with it. Plus we did our tours through the hotel and they again were brilliant.

I stayed here for four nights at the end of January 25. The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the Fort and Colaba areas of Mumbai and it is easy to get further afield as well. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby also. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you would want. Most importantly the staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for you. The breakfasts were fantastic (I would recommend the Dosa) and cooked freshly to order if that is what you wanted. An amazing vibrant city where there is always something to see around every corner. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here if I ever have the opportunity to return to Mumbai. Fantastic hotel!

Residency Fort is a fabulous little hotel in the middle of the Fort area in Mumbai. It is very centrally located next to the Flora Fountain, near the CST Train station, the GPO and the soon to be open Metro Station at the Fort.

The Reception is well staffed with English, Hindi and Marathi, also Urdu speakers, all very well groomed and polite. Help and Service is their motto for all your needs, wishes and fancies. You are helped with changing money, sightseeing, shopping needs or wants and much more. Just ask, one of the friendly staff members or Mr Lawrence (the manager) himself will be at your disposition.
The breakfast room is a lovely and busy place in the morning, the items displayed are plentiful, you can also ask for your special omelette, dosa or other wishes.
Just above the breakfast room is a sitting area for reading the paper or chatting too fellow travellers.
The rooms are on the small side but have everything in them you need, they are very clean and serviced everyday with fresh linen if you wish.
The staff is friendly and happy and seems to stay, as I keep seeing the same people year after year. That does tell you something, right!
Sightseeing is possible on foot from the hotel door, Nariman Point and Marine Drive is at walkable distance, if you go to Bandra, you can take the train from the CST station, a short walk down the road.
For all your travel needs, just ask at the desk, no question of yours will be ignored.
The Residency prides itself for being friendly, efficient, polite, providing excellent service in all respects, laundry and meals option can be arranged easily.
The price is fair, especially taking into account the location .
Enjoy your stay!
I have become a regular guest as Residency is so convenient.
Thank you all!
Namaste

You can also pay for a pre paid taxi at the airport. It is cheaper than hotel transfer. Uber is even cheaper. Citibank is just around the corner from Hotel Residency for money exchange or any other bank in the area. Try and get a room with a balcony - very light and spacious.
