We recently made our visit to this property around late November and happy to share that great hospitality demonstrated by the team in place; specially front desk team. Special thanks to Preeti who had the check-in made seamless and gave an auto-upgrade without even us putting down the request. Great views from the hotel rooms makes this place a perfect stop-over; and then have a walking trail to the mall road. Team has been excellent on the warm welcome, guidance around the near by spots received has been really appreciable. We had a very memorable stay.

The food quality and breakfast has been good, thanks to Chef Anoop & his team for always having a smile no matter even if operating with a minimal capacity due to pandemic. Would recommend this property to all when plan to visit to Shimla. Thank you.

Good points
1) We stayed in family suite which was spacious with 2 rooms. Breathtaking views from window. Wash rooms were clean with all basic amenities.
2) Hotel has its own parking which grades it above majority others located on mall itself.
3) Staff was polite and ready to help. Room service was quick n prompt.
4) Location is about 1.2kms from lift parking or one need to climb uphill for 600m to reach mall road
5) Food was good. Both lunch n breakfast was great
Cons:-
Photos depict swimming pool, roof top, kids play areas were not seen. Gym was not working.

Overall its a good place to stay with family n friends.

We stayed at cedar grand for 2 nights with family. To our surprise and delight, our room was upgraded at the the time of check-in , which made our stay further comfortable. They have OTT channels which kids enjoyed watching their favourite shows. Food at restaurant was delicious.

Worst food ever. The food quality was very Ned whether it’s Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. The food was tasteless. Even I feel that the curd provide was outdated
In terms of room service I would term it okish only. Nothing special. Even for room servicing the water bottles were not provided since we didn’t provided key for room cleaning.

Besides this my 1 yr old son had committed in the room- ( which is very usual in Shimla) the room service person ask for extra charge to clean mess. I just wanted to highlight here- that it’s not about money but the kind of harassment that we felt at that moment matters the most. Would never recommend any one to stay in this hotel.
The value for money that I got here is 0

We booked The Cedar Grand after going through the reviews and ratings on various travel websites. The cost of the hotel for one night stay beats any 4 or 5 star hotel but we were okay as this seemed like a nice hotel. It is right on the road and the rooms are noisy due to heavy traffic on the road.dont be fooled with the tag of free parking as the parking is in open and Their parking staff just puts your vehicle anywhere in the space available.
Coming to the hotel, the rooms are enough to accommodate 2 adults with a double bed and 2 chairs.
Room offers view of the valley but are very noisy due to the moving traffic throughout the day and night. This is very annoying and the sleep quality was very poor. As I entered the hotel room it was pretty warm. To have that kind of warmth in the room was awesome in such chilling night. We were happy and settled in the room. Soon we realised the unhappy part of the hotel.. The staff. A gentlemen came with a list of items in the room and asked us to sign for confirming how many LED and other electrical appliances they have provided. It was hilarious and annoying. I rubbished that and asked the person to leave.

Dear Reader,

We stayed in a family suite of this hotel for a night.

I recommend to NOT waste your money. It is amongst the worst hotels I have been to in recent years. Hotel is absolutely in shambles and not worth a single rupee.

If you do plan to stay in this hotel, please be prepared to face following issues :-

1. Centralized heating in master bedroom won't work. A single rod heater in a 16by12 ft
bedroom will keep you cold and icy entire night. No resolution will be provided by hotel.

2. Toilet seat will be broken

3. Bathroom shower will not work as it is in ICU mode.

4. Bathroom may get auto-locked with no one inside it. So you won't have access to the only bathroom in family suite. You will need to ask someone from hotel to open it using a metal scale !!!

5. As you enter the room, you will get a pungent smell of phenyl.

6. You won't find any disposable bathroom slipper. You do find a reusable bathroom slipper which is too risky to use in Covid times.

Overall, not worth a penny. Do not waste your money like I did.

We stayed there from 3rd October to 6th October. It was pathetic experience. We called room service to brought a bowl and spoon for making baby cereal but they said it is chargeable, however at last they didn't charge it, moreover the staff of hotel directly denied to clean the car also. Receptionist always remain busy on their phone even they didn't wish their guest and their behavior was quite unfriendly. They provide less facilities with high charges. At last but not least it is not close to mall road and hotel doesn't have any shuttle service.

Everything was good all staff and food but at the time of checking out in the morning the front office receptionist’s attitude was not professional. I think she needs more training regarding how to talk with the guests. Even though I told her i will complaint to your Manger and her answer was shocking “i don’t care “.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Beautiful property at an excellent location. We took a family suit. Rooms are mountain-facing. All through the day, it is a feast for the eyes. Different shades of beauty at different times. Mall Road is at a distance of 15 minutes with some upward climbing. If one wants to avoid it, he can opt for a ride to the Lift which takes one directly to Mall Road and the Ridge. Staff members are always helpful and cheerful. No word is enough for the Reception personnel. Always ready to cooperate with a smile. The Breakfast is good but lacks variety. No cold cut which is not expected from a hotel of this standard! Menu card also lacks variety, but these are not major issues. The dining room offers an excellent view of the mountain. An illuminated view of the city at night, either from the room or dining place, is a great pleasure to the eyes. Definitely come back to this place on our next visit.

The location of the property was great but the staff behavior at the front desk was pathetic. The guy at the front desk was behaving as a typical government employee and was totally non cooperative. The breakfast buffet spread was average. Expected a few more items specially in the fruit juice and egg preparations. Other that that the food quality was good. The best part of the hotel is the sun rise. One can experience an awesome sun rise from the hotel itself.

How far is the hotel from the scandal point? Is it walkable at night?
Answer from Asit Das

It’s a long nice walk approx 1.5 through the hilly stairs of Shimla. If you are not a walking person, not worth trying. Else you would enjoy the same. We used to walk up from hotel to scandal point.
