Detailed Reviews
My wife and me wanted to usher in the New Year all by ourselves and a friend of ours recommended Chapslee. We reached there late in the night and were warmly received by the entire team. The next day during breakfast when we found we were the only guests we were astonished. Talking to the front desk we were told Chapslee closes down from the last week of December and opens late February. The booking staff never let us onto this. We can describe our stay as heavenly. Pronoti Ratanjit Singh the gracious owner regaled us with the history of the hotel and her personal experience as a newly wedded bride when she first set foot there. Her son who never informed us about his Senior Position in the Government was an impeccable host. Mother and son went out of the way to host a party for us on the 31st along with their close family friend and it was a night to treasure. The staff have been trained superbly and it was difficult to get used to, being treated royally. I strongly recommend anyone who visits Shimla to make Chapslee your destination of choice if you want a taste of royal India. Tranquility in the middle of a city is not a choice available now.

This was my third visit to Chapslee , the first after Covid and my first road trip as well .I chose Chapslee , as I remembered the last time I was here fondly .Well nothing has changed .Apart form the sanitising norms the food , the rooms , the experience remain unique .That a family strives so hard to make sure one gets a Royal experience is in itself just so special . It’s a home loaded with antiques and the sheer splendour blows you away .I enjoyed indian food though the continental food is equally special.Breakfast is served with home made bread , so rare these days .I took a loaf home for my family !All in all id recommend Chapslee to anyone wanting a unique experience with solitude , great food and the lovely and lively chatty owners full of anecdotes .Will be back soon!

The unique, historic house "Chapslee" is a true gem of Shimla and it is fascinating that the Singh family opened their house to guests in the 1970s. The attention to every detail, the elegant and personalized service and the fantastic quality of the food served makes a stay at "Chapslee" the most enjoyable and memorable experience. Thank you, Mrs Singh and all staff, for hosting me in such an outstanding environment.

My friend and I are both History teachers and decided to go to Chapslee at the end of our trip to India. It is a historic house and did not disappoint. The public rooms are big and beautifully furnished with historic pieces of furniture, china, tapistries and photographs of the family. There is a grand staircase leading to the bedrooms with a collection of weaponry displayed on the walls. We stayed in a deluxe room which felt more like a living room as well as a bedroom and had a bathroom and dressing room attached. It did not feel like a hotel- more like staying in a grand home. When we arrived, we were introduced to our chef! The food was so tasty and freshly cooked. I have never seen omelettes so fluffy. The service was wonderful. We felt it was a treat to stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Chapslee is so close to Scandal Point and Mall road that it is easy to walk in from the house.

We had a regal experience at Chapslee. A home stay in a Royal house full of history and artefacts. The hospitality was really impeccable, whether it’s the food or the courteous service of the well trained liveried staff. Many of the items were special to the household and served in designer imported cutlery.
All these were far outweighed by the warmth shown by the royal family. Mrs. Pronoti Singh (Aunty), Mr. & Mrs. Chanderjit Singh personally took time to look after us. We were moved by their warmth and humility. Interesting discussion in the evenings on various topics with Aunty were great. Learnt a lot of the history of the house and Shimla from Chanderjit. He personally selected special items for the dinners on various days. To top it all he checked about our safely reaching home at the end of our vacation.
It was a completely different type of experience…..

Just when you think you have seen it all, you come across Chapslee in Shimla. We stayed there for one day, but it seems we absorbed a whole century worth of experience. Extremely well preserved, a vintage 1830 property that oozes charm from every nook and cranny. We were lucky to have the owner’s son, Charanjit Singh, available that day to give us a truly insightful and personal account of each object and background of each room. The fact he belonged to the same service as my father, made meeting with him that much extra special. My father was a 1952 batch officer of the Indian revenue Service, a few years senior to Charanjit.
As if that was not enough to win over our hearts, the food was extraordinary in every which way – not only it was very close to nature and wonderfully tasty but also presented in a glorious bygone traditional manner.
I plan to visit it again before long.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this charming hotel during our trip to Shimla. Staying at this hotel is like stepping back to a bygone age of opulence and splendour. Our room was comfortable and clean, and furnished with lovely period furniture. Our stay was on a half board basis. Breakfast, consisted of cereal, porridge and eggs cooked to choice. We opted for Indian vegetarian dinners , which were delicious. On our first night, the owner provided us with an interesting short history of Shimla, and Chaplee House. He then gave us a tour of the magnificent rooms in the house, each containing a wealth of furniture, paintings, family photos and memorabilia. The staff were lovely and attentive, and nothing was too much for them. A unique experience which we recommend.

We have just enjoyed the most amazing, welcoming stay at Chapslee that was beyond our wildest imagination. Everything from the moment you enter Chapslee is of the very highest standard. Our room was very large with a wonderful homely feeling, extremely comfortable bed and super pillows. The food is extraordinary, prepared by their chef who has been at Chapslee for over 20 years, served by staff who again have seen over 20 years service there. We cannot recommend Chapslee enough, it is steeped in history and could not be bettered by any other establishment in Shimla.
