One of the most extraordinary places I’ve ever stayed. Chandrajit is the warmest host and he and his family, who’ve owned the property for generations - and their fabulous staff - went so far above and beyond the call of duty in terms of service. A Must Visit! My husband’s family has stayed at the Chapslee for generations (1st in the 80’s, then again in 2004, and just now in December 2023). It was my first time, and we were a group of ten, including nieces and nephews, which means 3 generations of our family have now enjoyed this magical place! The Chapslee is not a hotel, nor would I even call it a guesthouse. It is a fantastical vision that rises from the mist high on a Himalayan mountain transported from a bygone era, which generously opens its doors into a world of beautiful old-world service and hospitality like a portal into the past! Morning bed tea is served to one’s room (at your preferred time, of course) with hot coffee or gingery masala chai (or hot chocolate!). Roaring wood-burning fires are stoked by loyal staff in the ornate dining room during breakfast (omelettes made to order, fresh juices, among other delicious items) or dinner (incredible Indian Thali, but they have many options and western standards, too). Upon our departure, I mistakenly left behind an important item and Chapslee staff had it returned to me in Delhi THE NEXT DAY! Don’t walk, RUN to the Chapslee for an experience of a lifetime.

My mother, sister and I stayed at Chapslee for 1 night in winter Shimla and we had the warmest and the most charming stay in this almost 200 year old heritage property. Absolutely amazing food and brilliant service. That Apple crumble and pancakes for breakfast were to die for. Had the pleasure to spend quality time and chat with the warm and welcoming hosts who welcomed us into their home and took us back in time with the history of this beautiful property. It was a great experience to learn about the incredible history of shimla and chaplsee. Super cozy rooms , heated beds and the cutest washrooms. This place is a must visit for anybody with taste. Definitely coming back here again.

My friend and I are both History teachers and decided to go to Chapslee at the end of our trip to India. It is a historic house and did not disappoint. The public rooms are big and beautifully furnished with historic pieces of furniture, china, tapistries and photographs of the family. There is a grand staircase leading to the bedrooms with a collection of weaponry displayed on the walls. We stayed in a deluxe room which felt more like a living room as well as a bedroom and had a bathroom and dressing room attached. It did not feel like a hotel- more like staying in a grand home. When we arrived, we were introduced to our chef! The food was so tasty and freshly cooked. I have never seen omelettes so fluffy. The service was wonderful. We felt it was a treat to stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Chapslee is so close to Scandal Point and Mall road that it is easy to walk in from the house.

We had a regal experience at Chapslee. A home stay in a Royal house full of history and artefacts. The hospitality was really impeccable, whether it’s the food or the courteous service of the well trained liveried staff. Many of the items were special to the household and served in designer imported cutlery. All these were far outweighed by the warmth shown by the royal family. Mrs. Pronoti Singh (Aunty), Mr. & Mrs. Chanderjit Singh personally took time to look after us. We were moved by their warmth and humility. Interesting discussion in the evenings on various topics with Aunty were great. Learnt a lot of the history of the house and Shimla from Chanderjit. He personally selected special items for the dinners on various days. To top it all he checked about our safely reaching home at the end of our vacation. It was a completely different type of experience…..

I had a wonderful stay at Chapslee with my daughter. As we were on a sentimental visit to Shimla since my mother had spent many a summer there in the late 1930's, I was intrigued and thrilled that our stay at Chapslee was just as my parents had described life in India before partitioning. The owners were charming and gave us many an insight into the history of the house as well as making us feel very welcome in their home. The staff too were delightful (tea every morning in bed was a real treat.). The cook was excelent and I had the best pancake I have ever had, Chapslee is wonderfully located a few only minutes walk from the town. It also had terrific views across to the Himalayas in the distance from the spacious gardens. . I thoroughly recommend a stay at Chapslee and can't wait to go back.to this "olde worlde" and homely home.

We have just enjoyed the most amazing, welcoming stay at Chapslee that was beyond our wildest imagination. Everything from the moment you enter Chapslee is of the very highest standard. Our room was very large with a wonderful homely feeling, extremely comfortable bed and super pillows. The food is extraordinary, prepared by their chef who has been at Chapslee for over 20 years, served by staff who again have seen over 20 years service there. We cannot recommend Chapslee enough, it is steeped in history and could not be bettered by any other establishment in Shimla.

The unique, historic house "Chapslee" is a true gem of Shimla and it is fascinating that the Singh family opened their house to guests in the 1970s. The attention to every detail, the elegant and personalized service and the fantastic quality of the food served makes a stay at "Chapslee" the most enjoyable and memorable experience. Thank you, Mrs Singh and all staff, for hosting me in such an outstanding environment.
