Sunnymead, Shimla is an exquisitely restored home with a spectacular garden. Located on the edge of the Reserve Forest. It is conveniently situated both to explore Shimla and its surrounds, as well as just relax and do nothing...Located just off the Cart Road, Sunnymead is the first private house as you drive up from the plains. Parking is available at the level of the road, either in our private parking bay or else in one of our garages. A short walk down a mountain path leads to the house. The road is not motorable till the front door. We are not a hotel, but offer short term rentals for like-minded people who would like to live in an old family home. Short stays may be customised on request. The food offered is both Indian and European, served in exquisite collectible china with old, beautifully maintained silverware. Distances from Sunnymead: Sunnymead to Railway Station - 1.2 km, Sunnymead to Victory Tunnel - 1.8 km, Sunnymead to local bus stand on Cart Road - 2.2 km, Sunnymead to lift (for the Mall) - 3.1 km,Sunnymead to Boileauganj (local market) - 1.2 km.
Sunnymead Estates was warm, beautifully appointed, relaxing and intimate. Madhavi and her staff integrated us into India. India’s history, culture, humor, architecture, politics, economics…even animal husbandry came alive during our stay here! With a stunning view of the Himalayan foothills, we traveled , as well, through India with each meal…the best food we had during our 4 week stay in the Northwest! We loved our month in India—but we miss Sunnymead. ❤️

I had a wonderful time at Sunnymead. The house and furnishings are beautiful, and the dogs and cats are great company. The food was out of the world, even better than what one would get at any five-star hotel. A big thanks to Madhavi for being such a nice host. I'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Stepping into Sunnymeade was like stepping into an enchanted garden. We walked down the steep descent to the sight of a charming English style cottage with flower laden creepers climbing up the walls . Madhavi treated us to a fabulous home cooked meal which she had prepared taking into account my gluten allergy . Breakfast next day was poached eggs in parsley butter , sausages , bacon , grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms , home made bread and bananas in yoghurt . Our bedroom was furnished with a 4 poster bed, a cupboard to hang our clothes , a small safe , heater , Wifi , telephone , tea bags and different types of tea for our morning tea. There is a cute sunny porch which overlooks the garden where you can sit and read the morning paper before you head out . There is also a charming drawing room where you can relax in the evening . 3 dogs and 3 cats also live here and since I love animals I was very happy to have them around to play with. The flowers , peaceful ambience, clean , pure air , fabulous food made with vegetables and herbs grown in the garden made it a holiday to remember . I would highly recommend it to people fit enough to negotiate the steep and uneven climb to access the cottage and those who can climb stairs . Padmini Atal…

We had the most fairytale like holiday ever at Sunnymead. The house, the food, the hospitality will all leave you wanting to stay for longer. Madhavi is the most welcoming and friendly host, and Madhu is the secret magician firing up the most delicious food. Better than a 5 start breakfast awaits you here. Well located short drive to mall road. We highly recommend this place to all families looking for a peaceful and memorable few days in the hills.

We couldn’t have asked for more! We had a large room with a four poster bed in a lovely house. The food prepared by Madhu was absolutely fantastic, we doubt we’ll get anything better on our travels. Everything is prepared from scratch, including the breads, muesli, jam, pickles etc. We had a variety of starters followed by a main course with several vegetables and then a dessert. Even the breakfasts were a work of art. We can only say the meals were ‘amazing’! Madhvi, the owner, sat with us for all our meals and was a delight to talk to. After dinner we’d head off to our room to find the heater and the electric blanket had been turned on. It’s a very easy trip in to Shimla so in a very convenient location. This place is a gem!

Sunnymead is an absolutely wonderful place to stay if you are in Shimla. I was there for three days and lived out all my cottagecore fantasies! The host, Madhavi, is warm, inviting, and so fun to be around. As someone who loves animals, Sunnymead was a dream. They have the most adorable dogs and cats, all of which are super friendly and love attention. Of course, the space itself is enchanting, with an abundant garden and comfortable, beautiful rooms. There are also always delicious fruits and snacks scattered around the dining area to munch on. I would 10/10 recommend spending some time at Sunnymead ☀️🍻

As a solo female traveller, I'm always on the lookout for places where I can safely escape to for a few days, be myself, and forget the world. Sunnymead checked all my boxes. I had been planning to visit from 2018, and finally managed it in June this year...and it was everything i had imagined it to be, and more. Everything about it is Ye Olde England, from the name, to the cozy furniture and decor, to the choice of books (some rare classics!) found in every room, to the dry wit and charm of my lovely host Madhavi. I kept expecting a gong to go off announcing dinner...or maybe find a body in the library! But of course this beautiful home is much more relaxing than that! Time stops here, as you soak in the sunlit garden and the flowers and butterflies and birdsong, and play with the adorable four-legged company comprising3 dogs and 2 kittens. A reverie that is blissfully interrupted by heavenly food smells wafting along from the kitchen, where Madhu the Magical Chef rustles up dish after delectable dish. And of course, everything is homemade, right down to the bread and jam and muesli I enjoyed for breakfast everyday. The place is a shining example of sustainable living, with no plastic to be seen anywhere. Madhavi is the most attentive and generous host. From keeping me excellent company at meal times to drawing up beautifully detailed maps for my walking expeditions, to running a foot bath for much needed salve after said expeditions, to popping in a DVD for me in the evening and laughing together....it felt like I was visiting family! And I was very lucky to be visiting at the same time as her parents, and Madhavi's amazingly well-read and well-traveled mum made my dinner conversations absolutely fascinating! A special shoutout to Dipak, who was so attentive to my needs, and always with a smiling face. Sunnymead will always be special. I've found my hygge haven in the hills and I'll be back.…

Dearest Mononita, This was such a fabulous tribute. I cannot thank you enough. Mum suitably chuffed that she was mentioned. She sends her regards. I am so delighted that Sunnymead ticked all your boxes. The idea of a gong is not a bad one since all of us are rather hard of hearing. Thank you so very much once again. I do hope we see you soon. With our warmest regards from the 2 and 4 legged at Sunnymead. Madhavi

The house is nestled right in the heart of shimla and is like a vintage dream and a fairytale from old books, handwritten maps, cute teapots, wildflowers, doggos, vintage furniture and upholstery. It was an absolute delight to find this place and staying in this. The host, Madhavi and the three care takers are really warm and welcoming :) The food is always hot and yummylicious and the people warm! Last but not the least there is no noise of the town that bothers you! Love, M

As titled my family experienced the most personalized and warm stay in the cool climate of Shimla. Sunny Mead is surprisingly central yet away from the Hussle-Bussle of touristy Shimla. Motilal, Deepak, Madhu and Madhavi Sanga Mitra made our stay memorable. Thanks
