#3 of 223 Speciality lodging in Shimla
Sunnymead, Shimla is an exquisitely restored home with a spectacular garden. Located on the edge of the Reserve Forest. It is conveniently situated both to explore Shimla and its surrounds, as well as just relax and do nothing...Located just off the Cart Road, Sunnymead is the first private house as you drive up from the plains. Parking is available at the level of the road, either in our private parking bay or else in one of our garages. A short walk down a mountain path leads to the house. The road is not motorable till the front door. We are not a hotel, but offer short term rentals for like-minded people who would like to live in an old family home. Short stays may be customised on request. The food offered is both Indian and European, served in exquisite collectible china with old, beautifully maintained silverware. Distances from Sunnymead: Sunnymead to Railway Station - 1.2 km, Sunnymead to Victory Tunnel - 1.8 km, Sunnymead to local bus stand on Cart Road - 2.2 km, Sunnymead to lift (for the Mall) - 3.1 km,Sunnymead to Boileauganj (local market) - 1.2 km.

Sunnymead is a beautifully restored heritage home in Shimla. It is the perfect place to unwind if you are looking for a calm, peaceful, offbeat and luxurious getaway; away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. The host is a darling and was so warm and welcoming. I just fell in love with the details of the house - every corner, every little object is so so pretty! The food, made by the in-house chefs is scrumptious, and the desserts are to die for - I can still taste the freshly baked choco chip/banana muffins and the upside-down chocolate pudding!! Added to that, the host owns 3 pet dogs who are nothing short of adorable. I never knew my affection for dogs before my visit here. All in all, would highly recommend this place!! I cannot wait to go back there myself!!!

The Sunnymead Estate exudes a charm that is hard to beat. From the moment you set foot on the property, you are transported to a tranquil world with vibrant blossoms and stunning views of Shimla. My husband and I were guests at Sunnymead for five days in February 2021, and it was an experience like never before! Mealtimes were indulgent affairs, where we could choose from a variety of options—right from home-made granola and poached eggs for breakfast to chicken curry and gluten-free desserts at dinner. Every vista from the property was breathtaking, making us never want to leave. Then there was the fabulous company of the resident pets (two very-well behaved dogs and an adorable cat) that added to the charm of the estate. But what really made our stay special was the caring staff—Madhu, Deepak, and Rashik—and above all Madhavi, whose family has owned Sunnymead for generations. From switching on the heater and electric blankets to ensure we return to a cozy room after our evening excursions to drawing extensive maps of Shimla so that we could find our way around town—Madhavi and her team went out of their way for us. All in all, Sunnymead is a luxury homestay that offers all the comforts of a high-end hotel as well as the company of some really amazing people and fluffy beings.

Spent two days in the wonderful Sunnymead estate around our marriage anniversary. We had booked the large Tara room with the huge 4 poster bed and it was totally worth it. The estate itself is a peaceful oasis amidst otherwise crowded and noisy Shimla. What makes it special is the superb staff, great food and wonderful gaggle of playful dogs and cats. The attention and care the owner puts behind everything from the meals to your stay is beyond anything I have seen. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for some peace and quiet with delicious food in Shimla

Great location in a hillside garden. The hostess was very welcoming and the food was the best I've had in India! And there was lots of it! The rooms have a lot of character. We appreciated the electric blankets as it was cold when we were there.

Sunnymead is wonderful. Like staying at a dear friend’s country house. The opposite of a corporate hotel, the furnishings, colour and personality of the place are second to none. Madhavi is a great host, a true character and excellent company. The food is out of this world good - honestly, an emotional experience. I’m a coeliac/gluten free and that was no problem at all for Madhavi and her wonderful staff - thank you! Images include probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had in my whole life, I’m aware that sounds over the top, but it’s true. Heaven. I can’t imagine not going back there again.

Dear Lisa and Courtney, Thank you ever so much for such a lovely review. Being gluten free is not a big deal anyway, but I'm so glad that you enjoyed being with us. I'm so happy that Simla was your first stop on your virgin trip to India. Do please come again with your family. I will let Madhu know that you loved her breakfasts. Warmest wishes for the new year from all us at Sunnymead (the two and four legged) Madhavi
