Detailed Reviews
Three stars only for the welcoming and friendly staff !
We visited on 11-12 Jan 2020 and weren't quite thrilled by the resort for these reasons:
1. The 250 meter steep stretch is quite longer as opposed to claims. The hotel does not have a proper parking and cars are parked on roadside.
2. The rooms are spacious but badly need maintenance. We hired the so- called good rooms of Scottish villa. One of the beds was high to the point of being extremely uncomfortable. The other made quirky sounds.
3. There were no doormats even when there was snow and rain outside. Upon our request, a towel was placed at entrance to avoid making the room wet and dirty.
4. The stuffed paranthas included in complimentary breakfast had no stuffing !!! Food served in rooms on order was ok though.
It seems hotel has acted on earlier complaints of geyser functioning, but then newer problems have cropped up. We were not impressed by the reception area either.
To sum up, the resort is not even half as beautiful as it looks in pictures, and location itself is a disadvantage.

Great location, really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. We travelled with two six year olds and lots of luggage and despite the stairs up to the elevator this was one of the nicest places we stayed in the four weeks we were in India.

After a long car journey from Manali to Shimla, we arrived in the evening at The British Resort.
Having been taken to our room, I went to take a shower.
After turning on the tap and water, I was immediately hit by a severe electric shock. My partner tried and got an electric shock as well.
We went straight to reception to alert the staff.
The Caretaker (who was the best member of staff) came to our room to try the water. He got an electric shock as well. A lady member of staff who witnessed the scene then told me that nothing was happening and that the room was fine and to go back in. She refused to acknowledge the severity of the situation, denying that there were electrical currents in the water, but would not put her hand under the water or touch the tap nevertheless.
The Manager at reception kept laughing and saying that there was no issue.
The Caretaker said that an electrician had been called.
The electrician confirmed that there was a fault in the electrical system for the entire block of room along the Danish rooms.
After a 10 hour drive from Manali, we had now been at the British Resort for an hour but had not been able to move into the room due to electrical faults, nor had we been offered even a glass of water nor a cup of tea.
The only member of staff who cared and assisted us was the Caretaker.
We had booked our stay via Make My Trip so we contacted them. They immediately confirmed that this was an unsafe environment and called the hotel owner directly. Make My Trip then fully reimbursed us.
Having an electrical fault in the water system is an extremely hazardous issue and the British Resort did not take this seriously.
Stay here at your own peril.

When I arrived at this hotel I had to call and wait half an hour to be greeted. The room was extremely dirty: dirty sheets, used towels, trash cans, walls, dirty closet interior. I wanted to visit the dining room: the tables weren't cleaned, the garbage cans weren't emptied.
The person who greeted me wanted to change the sheets, towels, clean the closet, wash the table. This proves that nothing is prepared between two clients. This was unacceptable so I decided to leave immediately. I therefore requested an immediate refund of my reservation. The owner refunded me a week later.

Even though initially I booked for 2 days I could not arrive on the first day. My booking was through booking.com and free cancellation type. But hotel did not allow to cancel. Took 2 days charge even though I stayed for one day. I requested some discount at least. But the hotel did not listen. Said booking.com will not allow and they need to pay 50% of rent to booking.com.

I had a fantastic weekend stay at this resort! The chill vibe throughout the property made for a relaxing experience. The staff, from the front office to housekeeping to restaurant servers, were incredibly helpful and welcoming.
The hotel's location near the tourist attractions was a huge plus while being in the centre of the first. The front office team's assistance with affordable taxis was a great convenience.
The food at the hotel was delicious, and I felt like I received excellent value for the price I paid. I wholeheartedly recommend the British Resort to anyone planning a 2-3 day stay in Shimla. It truly exceeded my expectations! The balcony rooms were good and comfortable.

The hotel met all of the expectations from hygienic rooms to most scenics views. The rooms are quite spacious and luxurious. The owner, and the staff are really nice and amiable. Shimla British Resort hall has a fantastic location amid a forest of pine and cedar trees. The hotel is atmospheric and evokes a colonial era feeling. It rained continuously during our stay and we were unable to get out much. However the hotel staff had planned activities which made the stay pleasant. The rooms offer a magnificent view of the mountains, valley. On a clear morning you can see a panoramic view of the Himalayas. The restaurant and in-room dining preparations are very good and we particularly liked the Himachali dishes and the High Tea.

+1
If you wish to immerse in the old world charm of colonial era, if the Scottish/English architecture entices you, if you wish to be in a place which is in the middle of nowhere yet in close proximity to the tourist attractions of Shimla, if you wish to be with you and unparalleled nature around you then British resorts Shimla is the destination for you. We were mesmerised with the spooky charm of the place, the steep road leading to it which gets pitch dark in night as if time has stopped here forever. We being an adventurous couple, always had the desire to live in an offbeat venue. This property is a one stop offering of bygone era surrounded by trees and hills which is not only picture perfect but makes you feel as if you are in a plot of horror movie:). The cherry on the top was the hospitality offered by Shlok who despite being a young chap and the owner, doing a marvellous job everyday to restore and maintain such a piece of pristine beauty in woods and this is certainly commendable. The staff is courteous and special thanks to Sunny, Babita and Satinder who continued to be accommodative, kind and supportive. The food had been the major usp and absolutely finger-licking. We loved all that we ordered especially omellette and masala tea basking in sun filtering through the deodar trees. While there could be improvisations from calling on mobile number instead of intercom, ala-carte instead of buffet, giving sleepers, towels, heater only on demand but we as a couple don't mind such hiccups when the experience has been worth cherishing for times to come. All the best Shimla British resorts...you have bagged permanent guests in us for all our visits to Shimla henceforth.
