I stayed here with another traveller friend I picked up and it's ok. If you want somewhere cheap with breakfast then this is your place. The bathrooms are super super clean and you get hot water from i think it is 7pm to 10am. The breakfast is ok. The rooms could do with being aired out and a good scrub and lick of paint. Basically refurbished. It does smell damp but then again, as said if you are paying 300 rupees each - what do you expect??

Room service was good (with Slight delays; however that was tolerable as the person who was serving in the room had a pleasant smile).
Room was just OK with minimum required amenities like TV, Hot running water, clean Bed Sheets and Towel etc.
The Main Advantage was the Location. It is just a 5-10 minutes walk from the Ridge or Mall Road. You can easily return to hotel during night time.
The amenities provided were good; however can be improved. (Also we can’t expect Posh Amenities in RS. 687 per Day)
Hotel location and the Room Charges were just the Best. The Toilet was not that much clean.
The overall Food quality was good. Many options on the Menu Card were not available though.

Booking is bit problem as I called up and they wanted some booking...thankfully I had friend who deposited booking amount and finally we got a chance to stay here. Bathrooms are super clean (though shared) double room is basic, loved the wooden staircase. Breakfast included.simple and filling.activity room is worth visit. Location is great and price reasonable....go for it.

as i have written these are the best points . don't look for luxuries . place is quiet ok but i saw many guests were complaining about things which the hotel never promised . one should know what kind of money one has paid and what to expect in return . one of the few hotels to offer a flat walk to the ridge . rooms are clean . staff is ok . the management ( i think it is family run ) deserves 10/10 . good budget .... BOOK ONLINE ..... FIND OUT HOW goooooooooogle

The hotels name is hotel Sakkar. We (9 bachelors) checked in on 28th feb 2012. I will be sharing some of the photos for referance. I dont understand why Youth hostel gave them affiliation. It is so poorly maintained.
The day we checked in there was no power and no water. The receptionist and others are so arrogant.
Asked for a clean blanket at 10pm , and the answer was that room service was over by 9.30pm.

and pity on us we booked 3 rooms for 2 days and we checked out the very next morning.......as none of us were able to sleep.

we actually booked this hotel since it was affiliated by Youth hostel assosiation.

terrible, terrible, terrible..........

Seeing that the hostel was associated with a hotel was new but not unexpected. We had booked 2 economy rooms for 1 night. On reaching,it seemed that they had booked 1room for 2nights with some talk of 10% luxury tax(!)
However,there were rooms available.

Warning-four stories, this building has no lift.

When taken to the 4th story, we discovered that room 37 was in fact a 8' x 8' room with a toilet that ventilated through the room, which opened into a corridor.

We immediately requested for a deluxe room which was 870rs. The room was bigger and fortunately had a window that opened out. However, the pillows smelt bad because of the damp, the blankets didn't seem to be very much aired nor the duvets changed. The toilet opens into the corridor. It's all right though the WC didn't seem too clean.
Clean towels weren't provided as indicated by the hotel.

The only bright ray of hope is the help-cum-attendee Raj who was very understanding and helpful. This is unbiased an opinion as I can give after the nights stay.

I had a terrible and worse experience staying at the International Youth Hostel Hotel Satkar in Shimla....I am a non member and made my booking through online during my reservation nowhere it was mention that I had to pay the online fee but I was shock upon arrival that they charged me for doing reservation online...hotel staff was rude and non-co-operative...economy room was so so bad that it looks like a refugee camp...no bathroom light, no hot water, blanket and pillow covers were all dirty, and smelly...room was so damn that horrible...I stayed for 2 nights only coz I already made my payment. we couldn't sleep the entire night coz just outside our window the water was flowing from the tank....they charged me Rs. 500 + taxes + online booking charges which is not worth a penny..... I would not suggest anyone to stay in that hotel ...stay with your own risk...
