I had a great stay in Spars Lodge! Staff was very welcoming and the atmosphere was very good too. They served delicious food and rooms are clean and cozy. The price is really reasonable and I will definitely go back there on my next visit to Shimla!
This place is a nice homestay. I actually visited their restourant because of the attraction of smoked trout. It is little off route from the hustle bustle of the city center. But the mall is not far hardly a half an hour walk from this place. What you can expect from this place is a very cozy place to stay and spend time. They have a small library with fairly nice books. The owner's company is definitely a nice little touch to add.
I had one of the most relaxing and lovely trips of my life, and staying at Spars Lodge was a very big part of it. The decor is simple and elegant, and the rooms were very comfortable. The whole hotel is pervaded by the most beautiful pinewood-y smell. Service was excellent and the manager was efficient, helpful and very pleasant. The kitchen was FANTASTIC. I really looked forward to breakfast every morning, especially because the lounge has the most incredible view over the hills. The best and worst aspect is the location - it's on top of a hill that is incredibly steep and difficult, but it's in a very charming and peaceful part of the town, away from the crowds. Would stay here again if I came to Shimla.
a silent wooden lodge away from the main drag, Spars is the right place to stay in clean, bright rooms with delicious hone-cooked food. I only didn't like the tv on all the time in the dining room-lodge.
We 3 girls booked Spars Lodge on the Pay at hotel module. The room which we booked was for 2 adults double bedroom which before booking was confirmed by the hotel that 3 people could comfortably stay. Upon reaching the first thing we were told was that for 3rd person there would be extra charges. Somehow we considered it, the next thing we got was a room with backyard view, no mirror and no fan. The lighting in the bathroom was too dim and best thing the landline didn't work half of time because of which we had to climb upstairs every time we wanted some service. We choose this hotel upon reviews on various sites, which didn't work in our favor.
Located up a hill away from traffic, overlooking Himalayas; basic rooms ; helpful staff; interesting fellow guests; close to pedestrian mall. Perhaps 10-minute walk from train station; excellent trout and other dishes. Only negative: failed to pick us up at statin, despite arrangements made before our trip.
Very difficult to find the place. The lodge was supposed to be an high level hotel, but in realty it wasn't at all.. The receptionist (I think the owner too) was ok, but not very welcoming. He hasn't done nothing to make our staying better or nicer. Actually, during the dinner he was pushing us to finish our meal and tea..keep on asking us if we had finished to eat and to drink a billion time, and, trust me, it wasn't late (when u travel around India u just want to go bed early)! Moreover, the shower was out of order and we couldn't wash ourselves..no way to change room or to have a discount. The owner has just said that he would fix it. ..and I cannot forget to say the the price of the room was extremely expensive. I wouldn't suggest The Spars Lodge as a nice hotel where to…
We decided to stay here as it's a little way out of the main part of Shimla, so is very peaceful (although be warned of the steep hill to get to it! Good exercise though :)) The price was a little higher than expected, but we went for it anyway as we had arrived from an overnight bus at 6am in the morning and the manager was kind enough to let us stay there until a room was ready. The rooms are clean and airy, although the shower in our first room offered no more than a dribble. We had to change rooms while we were there to a more expensive one, which in hindsight I don't think we should have had to pay more as we weren't informed of this when we originally booked our 3 nights. However we did have a working shower in the second room! The restaurant upstairs has a lovely homely…
I got to shimla and taken away with a hotel tout as soon as I arrived the place he took me was alright for 1000 rps but left because of noise , I decided to head to spars lodge because of lonely planet I checked out the rooms which I thought were extremely overpriced but I took one anyway(1700) a big let down was the shower didn't work but I did get a good sleep with no noise , he also booked me a taxi which was helpful ! I couldn't be bothered finding another place . I also ate there and the curry was well below average no atmosphere in the restaurant , although the views are stunning the place isn't worth how much they charge .
Stayed here in winters, and had a very nice time. Away from the main town, but close to nature and institute of advanced studies. Cozy room, clean linen and welcoming staff. Tastiest possible food on the hills with a large variety to choose from the menu. Personalized attention from the owner. Lovely experience.
