I have been visiting and staying in this hote for last 13-14 years, everytime I visit , staff there makes me feel like home. Staff right from the valet parking, porch to the front desk ( special mention of Kapil at Front desk ) to restaurants. This is great property with great location and service. Highly recommended

We became Shangri-La Jade members via the Warmer Welcomes route because of our status with Taj. However, none of the Shangri-La hotels in India really interests me and last year I even cancelled a stay here after receiving a rather cold response over email before our scheduled arrival. Since then they have elevated Mr. Abhishek Sadhoo as the GM of the hotel and this time the interaction went lot better. He immediately upgraded us to their Executive Suite which prompted us to extend our stay by one more night that was originally scheduled for a night. Before our arrival, I had a few more email communications with Prashant Sharma and Aditya Sharma, both part of the Front Office team, to get clarifications on a few details. The interactions were cordial but unlike some other hotels, none actually came forward to introduce themselves during our stay. The other contact I had was with Shalini of the guest relations, who first called me and then took photographs of our kids (who were travelling) to do "something special". We checked in slightly early although the room was already ready. Shalini was there to greet us and guide us to the room. That "special" turned out to be a dessert platter along with an edible photo-frame with our kids' picture etched on it. This is actually quite standard in luxury and upper-upscale hotels these days. Although the quality was okay for a welcome amenity platter, I just wished they had included a few savoury items too. Our bed also had a "welcome back" decoration that was again okay and not something that wowed us. As Jade members we are eligible for 3 official welcome amenities. At Shangri-La hotels elsewhere in Asia you usually select these from a list during check-in, which was, however, pre-selected for us here, consisting of a cookie platter, two cans of diet Coke and two bottles of Kingfisher Ultra. It was okay but we still wished they had asked us for our choice of options. Once upon a time this was the ITDC Kanishka and thus the size of rooms here reflected a bygone era not necessarily reflecting the standard Shangri-La follows elsewhere in Asia. Our Executive Suite was significantly on the smaller side, although the use of carpeted floor gave the impression of a cosiness. The small living room was dominated by a round marble-top dining table with 2 chairs and a rather tiny round coffee table. There was a 32 inch LCD TV, again small by today's standards which actually had a cable connection (not DTH)! The tea and coffee cabinet had a collection of teas and just a water boiling kettle. The best part of the living area was the view windows with the cushioned seating attached to them. These turned out to be comfortable beds for kids, not so much for adults. There was a manual alarm clock on the dining table and a potted plant, not something we see anymore. The bedroom on the other hand was of standard size, with an ottoman-chair pair near the entrance and a reasonably comfortable bed. Still the luggage space was poorly designed as the bedroom door kept hitting it and the door needed to be shut to open all the drawers there. The bathroom was cavernous, marble clad, with a tub, toilet, sink and a separate shower area at the back. They use some kind of recovered water to flush toilets, which had odour and a yellowish colour, not exactly nice experience in a luxury hotel bathroom. The housekeeping was quite average, on the slower side, since it took them a long time to attend even simple requests. Sometimes it'd take a few iterations for them to understand the exact requirement also. Speaking of which, they had one of the slowest elevator banks for such a large hotel; so most of the time it would be a long wait to get down to the lobby or up to the Horizon Club. The Executive Lounge on the top floor was although a great place to relax. Unlike many other hotels in Delhi, they actually allow kids with parents. Someone will attend the moment you stepped in here, but the high-demand window seats were usually taken unless you arrived well before the start of the cocktail hour. The food offering was quite okay, although there was no actual cocktails available, just plain drinks. The views from the Horizon Club lounge were quite awesome, all round the day. We also had breakfast one day here. Although the spread was nothing much, the service was spectacular as we had the whole lounge to ourselves for a good period of time. In addition, most of the hot items would be brought from their main kitchen while they did serve a decent enough Benedict. If you leave aside the general shortcomings with their hard product and the service that was not up to Shang standards, the food in their restaurants easily matched the level. Of course, it helped that the menu at these restaurants was largely in sync with other Shang properties and I have separate posts on our experiences at both Shang Palace and Sorrento. We had breakfast at Tamra on the second day. I liked their focus on SE Asia food and they made a very good noodle soup, not always available in breakfast buffets in India. The India specific items like nihari, etc were also quite nice for a buffet. The only thing missing was, perhaps, some sushi! Whether we would come back to stay here again would depend upon the prevailing room rates, as there are quite a few spectacular hotels this side of the city which are known to excel in service that this property can't match. On the other hand, it makes no sense to be accumulating points as Golden Circle (or Shangri-La Circle or whatever) member in India, either. However, its restaurants may draw us back if we're nearby, given how impressed we were with them.…
We had hosted 3 events in Shangrilla Banquet. Special thanks to chef Devraj Bhatt who assisted us in choosing a variety of dishes for all our 3 events. We had 70% of foreign guests, and everyone was going gaga over the food. The entire banquet operation team was extremely courteous.
Absolutely love this hotel! I have visited many hotels but this one is the best. We visited Shangri-La to celebrate mother's day. And I must say everything was excellent. Hospitality was outstanding. Food was awesome. Staff was very friendly and cooperative. A very very special appreciation to Mr. Kapil (duty Manager) for taking good care of us from starting to end. He is a true asset to this fabulous hotel. He really went above and beyond for making our trip memorable. We will definitely be back!! Keep up the good work.
Yashoda and Rahul C. provided really good and personal service to us from the start to the end. Impressed by their work ethic and professionalism. Thanks so much for the good experience. Will ask for them again on my next visit.

Thank you Mary from Tamra restaurant who took good care of us. She took good care of my daughter and made us comfortable like being at home. All in all a beautiful, clean luxury hotel with all the amenities. Staff is courteous, polite and trained. Their spread at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is amazing and increases you appetite. Swimming pool is safe and clean with a staff stationed to help you in need. Italian and Chinese restaurants Sorrento and Shang Palace are equally good in serving to your taste buds. Overall a satisfied experience. Special mention to Mr. Laxman Rao who is a great author on Hindi literature and made us fall in love for his masala Chai.
