As wedding planners, we recently managed a wedding at The Umrao, and it was one of the most mismanaged and disappointing experiences we’ve encountered. Despite the grandeur they portray, the reality is far from it.
Our client booked The Umrao for their daughter’s wedding, and during the booking process, the General Manager, Rajneesh, made several false promises. He assured us that everything would be handled seamlessly, even claiming that it was like a “family wedding” to him. He promised two dedicated shadows to assist the family for smooth execution.
However, this was all blatant lies. The venue was in complete disarray with minimal staff across every department. Despite sharing guest IDs and specific instructions to allocate separate floors for the bride and groom’s families, this wasn’t done. Only one staff member, Sandeep, was handling check-ins, and he was indifferent and unhelpful. In fact, the bride and groom had to personally intervene to sort out check-ins, which were delayed by over 3 hours. As a result, many guests couldn’t get ready on time for the evening event.
For a venue managing 45 rooms, there were only two bellhops—one of whom was arrogant and unresponsive to complaints. We had to ask our own senior team to assist with the luggage, which was highly unacceptable for a property claiming to be a 4-star hotel.
Despite the promise of dedicated shadows, none were provided. Rajneesh was nowhere to be found, and there was no one from his team ensuring that the buffet counters were being refilled or that the event was running smoothly.
After the disastrous first day, we had to bring in our own runners to ensure smooth execution for the remaining events. Even then, the hotel management showed no remorse or willingness to rectify the situation, despite multiple requests from both the bride and groom’s families.
The situation escalated further during the Varmala ceremony. Despite constant reminders, the Varmala was handed over by their staff member Suraj so late that the bride and groom were left waiting on stage, causing unnecessary stress and embarrassment.
Rajneesh the GM, also tried to exploit the client financially by insisting that all vendors be booked through them at exorbitant rates. We had to intervene and arrange for vendors independently, saving our client more money than our planning fee.
In conclusion, The Umrao is running a shady operation under the guise of a 4-star hotel. Their promises are empty, and their management is incompetent. We strongly believe that many of their positive reviews are fake and bought.
The team is only as good as their leader and the management, and all this mismanagement is a trickle effect of the owner and the GM’s intent and in capabilities.
In our 10 years of planning events, we have never faced such issues with any hotel. So if you value professionalism, reliability, and a stress-free wedding, we do not recommend The Umrao. Your special day deserves much better.

We went there to celebrate my sister Birthday and had 3 rooms. Inspite of booking in advance the check in process was terrible. We had a long wait before the room was issued. We were not allowed to cut cake at the restaurant or around pool unless we buy cake from them. They obviously didn't do anything special like decorating the room or a complimentary cake etc for the occasion. Our kids were not up for breakfast and the restaurant was very unsupportive to either allow kids extra time or let us grab some for kids in the room. The checkout was forced by the clock, no flexibility was offered and we were told that they will start charging extra if we don't check out by their defined time.
My 5 year old was playing around the kids pool and their SPA manager was extremely rude not concerned about safety rather not to put hand in water.
Won't recommend this place to go and celebrate your occasions as they will spoil it.

I recently stayed at The Umrao and was extremely disappointed with their restrictive policy that prohibits ordering food from outside. As a paying guest, I should have the freedom to eat what I want, especially since their restaurant may not cater to everyone’s preferences or dietary needs.
I upgraded to a suite expecting a premium experience, but instead felt disrespected and constrained by this unreasonable rule. I’ve stayed at renowned hotels like JW Marriott, Novotel, and Hilton, and have never encountered such a restrictive policy.
The lack of flexibility in this hotel’s approach to guest comfort is shocking, especially for a property claiming to offer luxury. I would not recommend The Umrao to anyone who values choice and customer-centric hospitality.

As an experienced traveler with extensive stays at hotels around the world, my recent experience at The Umrao in New Delhi was one of the most disappointing and alarming stays I’ve had. This property appears to have a "nickel and dime" approach, with an unfortunate disregard for their stated policies, leaving a lasting negative impression.
The rooms’ furniture is visibly aged—about 15-20 years old—with no effort toward modernization or maintenance. Lacking standard amenities, the room felt more like a time capsule than a contemporary hotel experience. When I raised these issues with the Front Desk Manager, he was courteous and apologetic, but, unfortunately, no action was taken to address my concerns or improve the stay.
One of the most concerning aspects was the unexplained charge of $20 per night per additional guest, despite the hotel’s own policy, as seen on their website, indicating no additional charge for up to two adults. I had mistakenly booked for single occupancy and was surprised to be charged an additional fee that contradicted the hotel's policy. Despite raising this with the General Manager and providing documentation, the issue was brushed aside.

We had a great experience here at the hotel, we had 2 rooms booked. Monu and Kanika were phenomenal they ensured that the rooms were throughly cleaned and spotless during our week long stay.
All the sheets and towels were changed daily and they were always available to provide a quick service.
Definitely coming back here again.

Thyme restaurant buffet is good. Staff has very good behaviour. Rooms are little small but at this price point it is best if you want to stay near IGI airport. If you want to experience night life nearby then you can visit cyberhub or atrocity. shezroj and rahul have cleaned our room and they were very polite

I will mark 0/5 . The umrao is only named as most hospitable property .. Staff was zero.. they don't know how to talk .. rude behaviour of all staff members from vallet to security lady to bell boy front office staff specialy Ms.Anju .. .. i have to park my own car to the parking that is far 1km approx then come back ..to the lobby they have only 1 bell boy to take your luggage in entire hotel !! Zero hospitality zero management .. the staff members abuse the guests !! Zero in housekeeping ... Take almost 3 hrs to get the toom cleaned from the housekeeping they came so late .. in all zero please don't recommend this to anyone .. my group was in 50 rooms they all got exhausted from the behaviour of this staff
