My son and I took a trip to India. Colonel's Retreat was said to be great so we booked 3 nights there while touring around Delhi. What can I say? The staff, the accommodation and the food were all excellent. The highlight was probably the rooftop restaurant where we had breakfasts and a couple of dinners. A fascinating view over the city with eagles (or maybe kites) and parrots etc. to watch doing their thing. I will make a point of staying there when I go back to Delhi.
I have been staying here on every visit to Delhi for about 8 years now! I went back recently after a 2 year gap due to the pandemic. It was a pleasure to see that, nothing has changed. All rooms are done up tastefully and maintained immaculately. Meals are always fabulous. The staff is warm & super efficient. Victor & Kamlesh took great care of me this time (though I missed seeing Arvind & his cheerful smile). Esther was kind enough to accommodate my last minute request to stay another night without having to change rooms. It was a delight to see the guard negotiate with a riksha driver to ensure that another guest who was just returning was not overcharged. When I’m here, I’ve never thought twice to worry about my belongings or any such thing. I rely on the staff to find me a reliable cab service & driver if I expect to be out till late. This is truly home away from home! Thank you Suman & Arun for opening up your beautiful home to us! Look forward to being back soon.…
Colonel's Retreat is a lovely small hotel, well positioned in the Defence Colony of New Delhi. It has I think 12 rooms spread over three floors, each floor having its own sitting area. The rooftop restaurant is a delight, with views over the City's skyline. Food is very good, with a strong vegetarian offer. Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The shower worked well, an absolute necessity after a day spent exploring Delhi. It could probably do with a little TLC here and there but in no way did that detract from our stay Very happy to recommend to travellers who want some comfort but wish to avoid the big international chain hotels and have a more intimate experience
I was in India recently and my stay included late night/early morning arrivals and departures from the airport in Delhi. This establishment is the perfect place to stay, convenient to the airport and with a warm, welcoming atmosphere provided by the owners and staff. I arrived in Delhi at 2:00 a.m. on a flight from Europe and the hotel staff was happy to receive me for a very late check-in after 3:00 in the morning. The rooftop breakfast when I got up was an excellent welcome to India. The signature banana bread is a must! When I returned to Delhi after three weeks touring around India the hotel staff greeted me with a warm "Welcome back!" My flight the next day was at the horrible hour of 3:20 in the morning, but the hotel was happy to give me a late night check-out. This truly is a home away from home in Delhi. I will be back in May and know that the owners and staff will take good care of me again!…
Excellent. very confortable room, very nice home, very good breakfast and diner on the rooftop. The staff is so smiling and nice including the owner. We love this quiet and peaceful place away from the crowd of Delhi. We will come back. Thanks for this charming place
We arrived in Delhi in the morning after travelling overnight and they let us check in pretty promptly. The room was big with a great shower and lovely big soft towels. The evening meal was reasonably priced and extremely tasty. A good start to our travels.
Colonels Retreat is an amazing place to stay in Delhi. The neighborhood is very nice and less traffic. The rooms are very clean and they also have a very good shower. The staff and owners of the hotel are all amazing. They are doing everything to make your stay an amazing stay. We couldn't wish for a better place to start our trip trough India.
Everything about this place suited us perfectly. It just looks like a regular residential house from the outside but it has been carefully adapted to offer a lounge and bedrooms on each of the three floors. The staff are so helpful, they will fix you up with transport or whatever you need and they take a pride in giving a really good service. The food is very nice too. The area itself is perfect. Quiet leafy streets and a ten minute walk to a small village-type area around a square where there are good shops and restaurants. (Also an electrical shop where two lovely gents will sort your Indian Sim card if you need one. It's quite a procedure but they take care of it all if you say you are staying at Colonel's Retreat). It was too hot to spend much time outside when we were in Delhi but we were happy to relax in this homely place. Very highly recommended.…
I'm back after a hiatus. I stayed at Colonel's Retreat 1. This is a place I shall gladly make it my stay in Delhi whenever I'm there from now onwards. The people are really kind and helpful. Esther is great. They are efficient and professional. The people are better than 5 star hotels. The rooms are great for me just like a home. I did have some technical issues but I will reach out to them privately for it's too minor to mention here; still deserve 5 star from me. Okay, some hard truths. Airtel mobile network is weak there BUT use the Wifi in the premises for your Uber or OLA booking. The Wifi works great and I believe the establishment is aware of the mobile network issue which is out of their control but they constantly ensure their wifi is working. I hope when visitor number picks up and the premises is full house, their wifi continue to work fine. Incidentally, if you are a foreign visitor, you are less likely to get a local India mobile because it's a hassle to apply for one and your local contacts are likely to call you using WhatsApp so you only need to get data roaming which is much more convenient. So, I have just solved the 'communication' issue for the owner, I hope they will reward me the next time I'm there (just kidding). Another point to note. This is NOT a hotel so it's not located right next to a mall or something like that. In my opinion, this place is for those who are familiar with Delhi. You need to book an Uber to move about and it's pretty much affordable as Defence Colony is quite near the city center. But be realistic about it, if you expect a conventional hotel, this is not for you but if you want a comfy home environement stay, this is it. Of course I must add their each of their room is tastefully decorated and better than hotel rooms in my opinion.…
A highly recommended place. Location wise very convenient, spacious and clean rooms. It is an excellent value for money. I travelled from Europe, so I had to go through 7 days mandatory quarantine. Esther and her team (Victor, Suresh, Kamalesh and Abhimanyu) made sure my stay is comfortable. Home cooked food was available. Since I was not allowed to go out, Mr. Victor helped me to run some errands. I will definitely come back here.
