On our two week family holiday we stayed at a mixture of properties. Some of them were less expensive, locally-managed places places. Perhaps a little rough around the edges but oozing charm. In Kandy we opted for Villa Rosa, which we loved and which proved a contrast to the other places described above. The place is managed by a very...

We stayed here for 3 nights as a final hurrah at the end of our honeymoon - the honeymoon suite was amazing,a beautiful spacious room with the added bonus of a bathtub on the balcony from which you can enjoy the sunset and beautiful views. As we were staying over the New Year period a lot of places in town...

Really fantastic hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The service was first rate and nothing to much trouble. The home cooked food was fantastic and we had this on both nights. The owner is very knowledgable about the area and recommendations. Would suggest to anyone going to Sri Lanka to visit Kandy and stay here.

This is such a lovely place to stay. Volker is a perfect host and all the staff are supremely attentive and kind (special mention to Budhika particularly for the Ayurvedic recommendation). You have to book direct with the hotel, and we got room 10 with 'Valley view' which is in an adjacent building to the main house and gives a...

A visit to the temple in Kandy is pretty much a must if you're doing 'Sri Lanka'. However, the centre of town is a one way system pretty much used as a race track (when its moving) by the buses, lorries and tuk tuks that abound. There are 'zebra' crossings - but you need to be in a group of...

We stayed here for 2 nights but had a hectic schedule which meant we couldn't use all of the facilities the hotel offered (hence dropping a star as we can't rate the massage facilities) We were given a large room with private balcony and beautiful views of the river and valley. The hotel dogs were lovely and very friendly (pets...

Even if the noisy mattress did not ruin your stay we would have appreciated once you told us. But thank you for mentioning this now - so that we have a chance to rectify this trouble. We are doing a lot to keep everything in place and in working condition - but we do not sleep in the beds -...

It was a delight to stay in the fabulous and elegant Villa Rosa. It is 'the' hotel to stay at while in Kandy. Almost hidden from the surrounding city, and nestled in the beautiful hills that surround Kandy, the hotel is only a 10 minutes drive from the city centre. The location really couldn't be better as you can get...

I shan't forgetting eating breakfast on the terrace and taking in the stunning views below us - and what a breakfast, particularly the banana pancakes! After all the bustle of Kandy, it was great to be driven up the long, winding road to the gentle charms of Villa Rosa. I loved it!

We stayed at the Villa Rosa 4 years ago and wanted to return for a longer and even more relaxed stay. On this occasion we stayed 4 nights and booked the same room, 3 which has a wonderful view of the river and a wrap around balcony. We were not disappointed. Our second visit was as wonderful again. It is...

We are happy and proud, that guests come again to Villa Rosa after 4 years, and they still find enough good reasons to appreciate what we are doing and they notice, everything is functioning very well even if the owner is not around! I took a chance to look what is happening in the neighborhood as far as tourism is...
