We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. The breakfast is very good, the staff very very friendly and the rooms are not big but good enough for a few nights. You can walk to a nice Kovil in the area and restaurant 'Mangoos' is in walkdistance and very nice to eat.
It was a shame that our experience did not mirror those of other guests. I thought our room was dire and a strange set up, it had no natural light and there were 2 doors in the room, when I checked the second door thinking it was a wardrobe it led into a corridor and was not looked or bolted so in theory anyone could have walked in. The room was basic but clean but had no where to hang clothes up and as we were initially booked in for 3 nights would have been nice to have. We decided to stay because of the reviews of the food and its location. The evening meal was ok but the dining room was so drab and uninviting we ate as quickly as possible. Breakfast the following day came no where near the good reviews it had and at that point in discussion with our guide we checked out and found another hotel. I was so disappointed - I don't quite understand how the old and new parts of the hotel fit together, The new part looked good, rooms appeared to have a small balcony, the hotel was not busy so i would have thought they may have moved us into the new part. The staff however when we checked in were nice and friendly and helpful, they were able to provide us with information on the ferry to Delft Island. It was just a shame we did not have a great experience as other guests seem to have…
It looks like the hotel is having a new wing built overlooking the swimming pool and at the same time is refurbishing the older parts. But there is a lot that needs attention. Evening meal was ok but dining room was grim and with no one else around lacking in atmosphere. As soon as we arrived for our pre-booked dinner they switched the a/c on but it would have made more of an impression if they had done that 10 minutes before we arrived. The food was well cooked but did not compare favourably with the other rice and curry meals we've had on this trip. The bedroom has lovely floor tiles, beautiful curtains and good lighting but is let down by a lack of space to hang clothes ( a row of hooks worked at the last hotel) and poor bathroom facilities: which were clean but just not up to scratch. The worst we've seen on our trip. …
Check in process was smooth and the hotel has been under renovations and is looking good at the moment , the food was consistently good including the amazing breakfast pittu they served. they do have a pool as well which is about 30 second walk from the hotel it comes equipped with a water fountain shower rooms changing rooms. The location is of close proximity to Nallur temple and Rio ice cream so that a plus point something quite notable was Mr Ramesh from the front office and Mr Bernard helped me get a bus ticket back to Colombo in the middle of night due to an emergency and it was pretty late but they helped me out immensely by arranging a tuk tuk to the bus and booking the bus ticket for me will definitely visit Lux again
We have stayed here many times as we feel at home. The staff are courteous and efficient and the accommodation is and comfortable. However, the most enjoyable part of the staying here is the excellent and authentic cuisine served at the restaurant.
