Had stayed there during a work trip, great location in the middle of the city, probbaly build by the old comunist system, huge and grand structure, surrounded by lots of greenery, parks and nice walking areas, The hotel has a very nice Spa and gym open for members as well, nice food, and the staff is really prepared and ready to serve and help.
The only interesting thing about this hotel is that it was built in the eighties as a luxury hotel in the still communists Romania. Nowadays it is in sore need of a complete refurbishment. The rooms are small and overcrowded with old furniture. The bathroom is small. The mattresses are so old that they bend in the middle. The breakfast buffet is simply terrible. The service, with the exception of the reception personnel, was also tremendously inefficient.
My room was on the 6th floor, great hotel for about 60 NZD. Only con is I wish they had more balconies. Im a huge coffee drinker so the coffee machine made my morning. Saved me from walking across the street for a good coffee. I Visited on Labour day so the sauna and spa were unavailable which sucked but I will be back to visit again. Mutumesc Hotel Mara
This is a Communist era hotel that was only partly and cheaply renovated. The hotel has great potential - great location by a large city park, great views and solid built building. Definitly, the Communists wanted Hotel Mara to be a showcase and put a lot of resources when they built it. Unfortunately, the owner who bought it turned it into a derelict hotel by mismanagement and a partial and very cheap renovation. The bathrooms are not remodeled, the furniture and doors are relics from the Communist era. The staff is very helpful and make your stay bearable. But you leave with a bitter taste, not sure if you want to ever come back
This whole hotel reeked of cigarette: Staffs, Corridors, Rooms. Not a big one. Can easily put aair freshener or something. The whole hotel is dated and in need if refurb. Staffs are rude. Food is o.k.
Hotel was very good and staff were very helpful, made my stay a real pleasure. Breakfast was good and their coffee is excellent. I was on a bussiness trip but would like to stay there again, maybe next summer.
I spent two nights in the hotel. I got a room on the 6th floor, it had a balcony and it had a perfect view to the city and its area. The furnishing of the room is a bit old school but not bad, the size of the room was enough. The hotel has a wellness part which contains only saunas and showers, it was a little small. It has also a fitness room which is used also by guest from the street. Take care, it might happen that your reservation does not contain the usage of the sauna and the fitness room. The breakfast is great, rich, vary, is from table. The city is close to the new town, the distance to the oldtown is a big longer.
We decide to stay at Mara Hotel because my wife was here 24 yers ago... At that time was the only hotel in town...The same old style but clean and very nice people. Renovated and new services, spa, gym. Good european bufet breakfast.
Except for location this hotel has nothing to offer. I asked them to change rooms because the first one was horrible: musty smell, very old carpet, uncomfortable bed, bathroom was small, nothing was working properly, sink and shower leaking, towels very old. Even though the hotel was half empty , the front desk was reluctant to assign me a different room, they behaved like they did me a favor. The second room was slightly better, the same musty smell, same old carpet, bed was a bit more comfortable and the size was a bit larger. The phone in the room it could be used for ONLY making calls within the hotel. To dial outside the hotel one has to reach the front desk !!! Breakfast was not bad but nothing special. Too bad there is no initiative from the management to improve something about this place. Never again here when there are so many good places in Baia Mare to stay. …
I have visited most of the other hotels in Baia Mare, and some of them are quite good. This time thou they were fully booked so me and my family tried this one out - and what a surprise! First of all the rooms are quite worn down and you can feel that it is a hotel that hasnt been refurbished as it should - but - and this is a big one: the staff are really making up for it. They are extremely polite, service minded - probably the best staff a hotel manager can wish for. Overall: we will always choose this Hotel from now on. The rooms are sufficient, the parking is easy to get to and forth, and the staff really makes the difference. For the spaa: we tried to get in t here but they have their own staff. If the spaa -staff was half as service oriented as the hotel staff we would have been happy, sadly they are not.…
