Detailed Reviews
Visiting a protea in Nigeria used to be a pleasure but since its relationship with Marriot quality of certain aspects has declined although not yet to the level of the former Sheraton in Abuja. Rooms are OK and the beds up to usual Sheraton standard. Pool is nice and the location facing the ocean pleasant if you have a room with a view. Access to the hotel is via a road in pretty poor shape.. Gym is small with a couple of treadmills, a gym machine, couple of bikes and a manual elliptical trainer. For me the pleasure of a Protea was its fantastic breakfast buffet. Sad to report this is no longer available with a very poor selection, instant coffee only, no decent meats or cheese, no pastries . Overall very disappointing for N14,00 ($30).. Internet connectivity just about OK..

This is actually a cool place to hide in the city. Courteous and professional hotel personnel, most had smiles to greet you. The ambience is great. My friend wanted to study all weekend and I believe it worked. Great lighting for narcissists like me who have to take photos everywhere.
The net door in front of the balcony door is due for repair/replacement as mosquitoes trapped in between both doors eventually came in.
Do not order for room service if you cannot wait for an hour or more for your meal to arrive. Even a bottle of Hennessey took over an hour to be delivered. Go to the restaurant because for some strange reason, the food they bring to the room doesn't even taste as good as the one served in the restaurant. The only thing we ordered that was sweet and felt fresh was the Greek salad and vegetable soup. Others were a complete waste of money.
Overall, it was a good experience and we look forward to going again and eating out throughout our next stay.

Got into this hotel night and I was wowed by the ambience and aesthetics. We were welcomed by very warm receptionists and check in was a breeze but that's where the magic ended for me.
Room (407) had a damp and musky smell. The room floor was wet / cold and so uncomfortable to walk around. The room was filthy. There was used soap paper in d wardrobe, there was stains on d bathroom door , the tea cups were unusable with coffee spilled everywhere making the tray sticky.
I couldn't manage to sleep, that crisp freshness you get when you spend the nite in clean hotel was lacking.
The next morning at the pool was worse, everywhere was filthy. Felt like the pool area hadn't been swept mopped or used in weeks. Especially the place where you take a shower b4 a swim.
Our consolation was the breakfast (for one, had to pay for the other person) was very good though with limited choices but tasty and staff were very attentive. Felt very clean too
I think its good hotel but cleaning has to be better supervised. Its a marriott hotel for crying out loud.

By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I booked my hotel at the official Marriott website using my points. Just three days before I arrived I received an email from Marriott welcoming me to the hotel. However, when I arrived, at check-in, I was informed by the front desk agent (Grace) that Marriott points were not accepted at the hotel, but that they would be willing to offer me a special rate for each night. I had no prior notice, they didn’t notify me by email or any other means, but they refused to accept my reservation that was guaranteed by Marriott. After discussing it with the manager on duty (Ms. Tokunbo), we agreed on a rate, and they agreed to return my points back to my Marriott account. However, they did not accept international credit cards (their machine wasn’t working at the time) so I had to pay for my stay in cash in advanced. This is when I went to my room, and was even further disappointed. The room was extremely small and dark. It says it had a queen size bed, but it was more like an American Full size bed. The bathroom was tiny, and he shower was no more than two feet wide and maybe six feet long… uncomfortable for any full size adult to shower in it. Our room was in the first building, which was right across from the power generation plant, so the sound was very loud. In our one night stay, the power went out several times, and the internet worked intermittently. When I called the front desk about the internet, they said they would fix it but did nothing. The hotel itself doesn’t have many amenities. It has a pool that was alright, and a gym that was dirty and small, and didn’t motivate you to workout. The exercise machines were old and un-kept. They had a bar by the pool, and a bar at the lobby, and a single restaurant. Other than that, the place is completely isolated, and boring. They advertise that their rooms have views to the beach, but there is no access to the beach, and the beach is a camp for the homeless on Victoria Island. After one night stay we decided to check out because the hotel was awful and was not worth the money we were paying. Upon check out they told us that they could NOT REFUND our money until the end of the month, so we had to leave with a receipt showing that we had a refund due. One day later, my Marriott account was charge with four nights worth of points, in spite the fact that the manager Ms. Tokunbo promised not to charge me, and in spite the fact that we only stayed at the hotel for one night, paid in cash, and with a refund due. I filed a complaint with Marriott about this hotel. Do yourself a favor, stay away from this hotel. There are plenty other hotels in Victoria Island that will be a better deal and will not cheat you.

Our stay at Protea Hotel was not nice. The staff are rude. We made payments for 2 nights with breakfast inclusive. And I was told that I will be given a refund for not eating breakfast the morning I was checking out by the front desk officer. She even requested for my account details which I provided immediately only for them to turn around to say I don't have a refund.
If Protea was not giving me a refund, they should have advice me to take my breakfast or forfeit the refund, which they did not say. Before I checked out. I have evidence of the WhatsApp number giving to me to send in the account details, and it was acknowledged.
They have integrity issues, no transparent communication.
This is not a good experience for a first visit.

I would advice anyone going here to be very careful. The service is incredibly horrible. I'm not sure how it can still be under the Marriott brand which is very good. I had the worst experience and secondly, I have tried to reach them on several occasions to get some information about my stay and they have given me the run around. It's like I'm dealing with a ghetto hotel not a marriott brand. I only stay at Mareiotts and this is a big shame.

For sure not Marriott standard. Will never go there again.
The staff is very friendly and at least tries their best to help.
Breakfast is sometimes a la cart and sometimes not. Anyway they will bring something you have not ordered.
Price per night, food, drinks much to high and not worth it!

Hotel service that was arranged to fetch from airport was delayed and I could not contact the person. Also no name or hotel dashboard I think they send over Uber driver to do service.
Rooms very basic and far away in quality from the hotels around. Also after complaining about service they done totally nothing about that.

I only gave 1 star because I can't give a "-5" star. Rating this hotel 1 is too good for them. I planned and organize my office end of year party and decided to use Kuramo Waters because of the location and my relationship with the owners. To my surprise, custormer service is appaling. My reasons;
- My party was for 60, I was assigned 1 waiter for setup, My team and I had to set up ourselves while I was constantly complaining to the Manager to assign more people.
- I reached out at the end of the party, asked to settle my bill and have it emailed to me the next morning. After 2 and a half week of constant harrassment to the hotel, even had to call the owner's son who is a friend of mine, I finally got my invoice.
- When I got my invoice, to my surprise I received an invoice that was 500,000 Naira more that what they gave me after my party. I reached out to Management, I was not getting a solid feedback. I had to leave office in the middle of the day to sort it out.
- When I went there, The Financial Controller was disrespectful and condescending, he could not immediately explain why my bill was inflated and the receipt was a hot mess, I had to coach the Finance person how to write a bill/invoice.
- He eventually notified me my bill was ready, I went back to the hotel only to be kept waiting again for about an hour, I called the manager who in turn reached out. The Financial Controller came out aggressively and said "HEY YOU! DID I TELL YOU YOUR BILL IS READY?"....shocking hunh...well since they were ready to play dirty, I told him to step back before things got physical.
Long story short, we were able to eventually figure out the "error" on my bill, apparently they had double taxed me, which is something that should not have happened if the hotel had hired professionals. I was originally looking to set up a corporate partnership with Protea Kuramo Waters, unfortunately, that will no longer be happening. Customer experience was appalling, to even make things worst, the "Management" as they call themselves, they're not even apologetic! or willing to compensate for the stress and terrible experience my people and I had. This is one true example of :Judging a book by the cover"

The staff were very friendly and tried their best but appeared to have not been trained in hospitality. The menu is very limited. I ordered room service the first night and it took 90 minutes to arrive and no cutlery was brought, despite phoning room service it never arrived. Next night I was the only one in the restaurant and it took over an hour for a burger with no burger bun. Positive is that the room was ok. Shower poor, never again
