Detailed Reviews
well, where do i start. rooms are nice. there were a few issues though, jacuzzi not working, pool closed etc, but overall, it was a good stay. Girls at the desk was pleasant. When my partner and i returned from the trip Bisola who works at the front desk sent my husband a whatsapp message to ask how he was doing. she told him how much she would love to see him again and was asking when he would return to Lagos. Now, im not sure if all the girls at the desk are like this, but ladies watch out. She even started to send pictures of her self. i will attach it to so that everyone can see.
the housemen(cleaners) are really pleasant and well mannered and the bellmen are welcoming. overall (except for the surprise messages from Bisola trying to get too acquainted with my man) everything was great.
Oh, there were not many options for breakfast but what they provided was good. the african omelet was very good. servers are really pleasant

I stayed here from 29-Sep'13 to 04-Oct'13. The people are very nice, co-operative and very friendly. Its a spacious property but with very basic in room amenities. The toiletries provided in the room are minimal. The tea bags, etc. are just good for one or if you are lucky two cups of tea. Only one bottle of 500ml. water (per day) is complimentary. Anything more is chargeable. They will not provide you drinking water in a jug too.The AC was good. The internet gave me a problem one evening. Worked well the other days. The breakfast is fine but meals are only continental and Chinese. You have to buy water even if your breakfast is complimentary. Water is not ! Security though is good. The bar was also fine. The hotel is not at all a value for money. Please do not get carried by their website pictures.

i was supposed to have stayed in one of the nearby motels but eventually got to this planet one hotel.it is really a breathtakin place, with classy interior.but i guess if you want to be spiteful you can say foul things about the good experience others have had in this place.i did see a lot of renovation work going on, especially on the first floor and the warm and respectful service staff reassured me that all the work going on is just to make things better, which i did witness.there is a lift in the hotel, you really was never in this hotel if you failed to see the new beautiful lift they put up.i ended up staying 2 more nights than i had planned anyway...n i have absolutely no regrets whatsoever!

I stayed in this "hotel" last December and i experienced the poorest service I have ever got in an hotel.
The AC didnt work in my room, the room was dirty and when i asked to move the another room it took them too many hours to do so. The other room was better but still far from being a glam.
The food was very basic, no meat at all during all my stay, same dishes were served differently every time.
I will not go back to this place!!!

We travelled to Lagos to attend a wedding and were originally lodged at Protea in Ikeja where the service was courteous and professional, however as we were with the bridal party the standard rooms were too small for the bride and bridesmaids to change in. They were also admittedly quite expensive. We therefore moved to Planet One were, as it was a weekend we were given a 50% discount for what they called the Regency suites. We booked two and a bridal suite for 3 nights. My suite which I booked with my sister and which was supposed to be an upgrade on an executive suite did not have a single mirror in it and only one window which was within touching distance of a grey block, so no light there.
The bathroom had a Jacuzzi however the water was tepid so it wasn’t worth using. When I complained that we couldn’t even use the shower as it cold, and the water was not draining properly they sent someone up. He left looking baffled but promising that the drainage was now working properly. Not true, it had finally drained after about 30 minutes of him staring at it. If possible, the water was even colder. When I advised the reception that the issue has not been resolved there response was “he is not a plumber”. I was tempted to ask why they had sent him but I don’t think that would have gotten me anywhere. When I asked what they were going to do about the hot water I was told that they could bring us hot water in a bucket! We were being charged 32000NGN (approx £140 incl the disct) for a regency suite and being told that we had to bath in a bucket! As a result I was forced to shower in the brides suite.
The bridal suite was even worse (barring the fact that there was actually hot water), the bathroom toilet in the bridal suite and second regency suite were worse than that found in hostels and the bridal suite actually has a Jacuzzi INSIDE the bedroom. Now, I know that some people might see this as romantic but the smell of damp was overwhelming and the wallpaper and grout around the Jacuzzi were peeling. There was no artwork in the rooms and the colour scheme was dark and depressing. I was also told that the other regency suite overlooked the night club so there was no sleeping that night.
The staff complained that we had not advised them that we would be preparing for a wedding so we were disturbing other guest by taking pictures on the landing on the wedding day. (We had told them before booking, they had failed to communicate this to staff on the next shift). They completely screwed up the bills when we were leaving, The breakfast was average at best (we didn’t have lunch), The wifi only worked when sitting in from of the access point in the reception area and they actually sent a member of the legal staff to advise us that we could not eat snacks in the lounge as they were not from the hotel. Understable as I know that most hotels do not welcome this, however we had walked through reception with the snacks and actually asked a member of staff were we could eat them. If we had been told then, we would have taken them to our room.
The Duty Manager remained illusive throughout our three days as we wanted to speak to him/her about the lack of hot water, the poor drainage and to find out whether we could get a mirror sent to our room. He should also have been his/her duty to advise us that we were not allowed to eat in the lounge rather than sending a legal staff. Do they actually want people to stay at this hotel!
I know this all sounds like me whinging and I suppose I cannot expect the same level of service that I would expect from other international hotels (even though the service at Protea and Sheraton are both excellent), however these are issues could have been overlooked if the attitude of the staff had been helpful. Have these people not heard of Customer Service!
GIVE THIS HOTEL A MISS!

If you ever have the opportunity to stay over- or have a Conference in Lagos Maryland I would sincerely advise you not to make use of this Hotel for anything. As a General Manager for a Tourism Company we've booked with them after their Sales team begged me to bring my business to them, but it all ended up in a horror situation where we had to arrange the venues ourselves and the Management were so rude with derogatory remarks and foul language that I have decided never to return again... I am so sorry that my innocent Nigerian colleagues had to see this as some of the Ladies were very upset with what happened.
My advise is to stick to a Brand that works in Africa - Protea Hotels, great people who still understand the meaning of Hospitality!

I paid $222 per night for three nights in late Feb / early March. On arrival the receptionists were excited saying "Oh you are from TripAdvisor! Welcome!" (a false claim which I did not, I should mention, deny). I was shown up to my room (143) which was a decent size. There was one half-liter bottle of water. And one teabag. My colleague and his wife were staying in another room and had the same portions.
The day we arrived there was a blackout for ten seconds, another one or two, and then a complete blackout for over an hour. Fun! We wanted to have dinner and the staff said that they cook with gas so we can order. I had a stomach upset so ordered plain rice, which took the waiter three or four attempts to understand ("You mean rice with stew, sir?"). When I and my three colleagues had finished our meals we ordered the bill. By that time we were the only table in the restaurant. We counted nine staff milling around the dining room. Fifteen minutes later we had not received the bill so we asked again for it: "Two minutes, sir!". Five minutes later and still not having received the bill we got up and started walking out. At which point there was a sudden rush, the General Manager appeared as did the Customer Services Manager. We explained the situation and the GM seemed very annoyed with the staff and ordered them to bring us the bill. It was sorted out in around one minute.
Breakfast was ok but there is no water available. The bread was quite stale. The staff were inattentive. Several times they did not notice that there were items missing from our table (e.g. napkins, juice cups etc).
My room had one window which was in the corner of the room and measured approximately 40cm width and was around 150cm height. The window was dirty and the view looked out onto concrete and garbage. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were huge and hard: too big to fit in the gap between the bed and my head, so my head was at 45 degree angle pointing upwards when I tried to sleep, so I abandoned the pillows. The bathroom had a walk in shower (my colleagues paying the same price in rooms 138 and 138 had a huge bath!). The temperature of the shower did not get above coldish, whereas there was ample running hot water from the tap in the sink.
I used the gym twice. It contains some new and very good equipment. The gym staff are very friendly. The foor was filthy with visible bits of dirt. During my workout I asked the reception staff if there is a water fountain or where I could get water. She told me that there is no water and I have to order water from the restaurant, at which point I told her I was in the middle of a work-out and was not about to go to the restaurant to get water which should be provided in the gym. She then kindly brought me a half liter bottle of cold water and a bill for 2 USD. I signed it and left a note to the GM that this was the first gym (hotel or otherwise) that I have ever used where one has to pay for water. The GM kindly removed the water charge from my bill.
There is a small swimming pool which is too small to actually do any swimming. There is no spa or massage service, as advertised on the hotel's website. This probably is misrepresentation under Nigerian law, but since when do companies in Nigeria have to tell the truth?
In short, this is a hotel which is desperately trying to be a four star hotel. But the hotel needs to send in some mystery shoppers because the mistakes are so obvious from the customer point of view. Travellers to Lagos should expect to get ripped off. I would not recommend this hotel. There are better alternatives for this price.

This review was written throughout my two night stay in the hotel on 3-5 February.
Possibly the strangest hotel experience of 20 years in Africa.
I checked in yesterday to find the air conditioner in my room wasn't working. The engineer came and said he had fixed it. 30 minutes later it clearly wasn't working so I went to reception. They said they would arrange a new room. Four rooms and about 2 hours later we had finally found a room where most things function (air conditioner/shower/tv. Nothing fancy!). So I settle in and just rest.
Today I went to meetings in the area. I get a call at 3pm asking me to come back to the hotel for an emergency. Apparently they had decided to immediately close for emergency refurbishment and we're moving me out! I called the booking agent to find out what was going on. They may have exerted pressure, so now they have delayed closing until tomorrow (hopefully after I check out at 6am!). So I'm back in my room with most things working. Considering eating in a restaurant that has an extensive menu but nothing available (reminds me of Bissau in the old days) and hoping that they don't decide to shut down the hotel with 30 minutes notice. I will keep my bags packed ready.
As an aside, this is supposed to be one of the top hotels in the area 😕
A final update. Power went out around 2am and never returned. I left at 6am having packed by torchlight. The reception was in complete darkness. The receptionist did collect the electronic key card. Good luck getting into the room with that!!!
I suggest anyone considering this hotel thinks twice. Even if a major refurbishment is undertaken to the facilities it won't change the blatant disregard which the owner/management of the Hotel have for their guests.

I would like to firstly say My company will never return again. We were asked to make use of there facilities, so we did, however when we asked for things to get sorted out without being unreasonable. The GM used foul language and refused to assist after we paid for services. We then had to set up the hall on our own. I would advise not to use them at all as there is no client service where you feel bad to ask for anything even though you have paid. I will continue using the services of the protea goup in the area.
