My room was fine and my friend's room (number 8) was even better with a lovely shower, all artistically tiled and opening onto the bedroom.
If you are looking for a personal touch, away from the high-rise hotels, this is a place for you.
But wtf. Its a wonderful hotel. The staff are funny as only Nigerians can be, with that balance between resignation and hope, love and fear. The chairs in the lobby/eating area are mostly profoundly uncomfortable, the tables wobble, the floor has potholes, the serving hatch in the bar is a window, the window is a door and door is a shelf. You can get a beer but where's the opener? Nothing is particularly fast, the extension cable is plugged into the socket with a biro and some masking tape.. this is exactly as it should be. What you get is a rather stout lass behind the desk who knows exactly what's going on and will take your cash with a yawn and a grin.
If they run up some music on a Friday or Saturday night you are not going to sleep so you may as well join the great unwashed and get fissed as a part while yelling responses to hugely engaging locals who will all want to know who you is and what you does.
Nah, I don't think I slept more than two hours a night, ever. The food is pretty awful but I never got sick. The beer is cold and if you want to just sit and watch things coming and going - why not. Would I switch to the wheatbaker? No way!
The small restaurant has an interesting menu but on our Friday night visit, the Nigerian kitchen had "closed" at 6pm (?) which was a shame as I hoped to try some local dishes. Still, the food was decent and reasonably priced.
I would definitely recommend a visit to this spot.
I read other reviews before staying here, so here's my thoughts on those. I was worried it was noisy, but I asked for a quiet room and it was quiet. The music in the guest house stops around 10pm I think. As for lights and internet, it was fine considering you're in Nigeria and I don't think anywhere is perfect all the time. When the lights went out, they came back on. Same goes for complaints on food timing. They cook it, and cooking takes time.
it was great fun but the place was packed and gets quite rowdy, so if you're going on a thursday get there early ( before 7pm) and go with friends.
there is an entrance fee of 500 naira to the open mic night.
Really nice unusual african furniture , great decor and artwork on the walls with a great african vibe.
there's are souvenir / art shop within the premises with a good variety of items which was still open when we left at 10pm
food was tasty, I had the grilled fish with yam chips and a peri sauce, others had boneless chicken with regular chips and same peri sauce. prices are reasonable.
A great place to take visitors to get a feel of Nigerian joie de vivre !
If you're there on a Thursday night don't miss the open mic at the lounge. So much fun!
"Do not go for the smallest, and visit the room before entering. (Sorry, but sometimes they might not bee tidy as necessary, so check them!)"Read full review
