Caballito's Mar is a hostel (restaurant, bar and local tour operator) located in the shores of Ometepe Island, in Nicaragua. The views and the rural community and natural atmosphere are wonderful. The rustic establishment is in the community of Merida, in the Maderas volcano part of the island. We have two comfortable private cabins equipped with air conditioned and private bathroom. A private room with fan and private bathroom. And a shared dorm for up to 4 people, with fan and shared bathroom. All beds have mosquito net. Guests have free to use kayac available to enjoy the fresh water of the lake. We also offer guided tour, kayak and boat tour, as well as taxi service from and to the ports.

The hotel is basic, but clean, comfy beds, in a beautiful area ad the staff is superb. Erics is super helpful and speaks fluent English, which is great. Food is good. Highly recommend taking a kayak for a half-day. The only downside is slow Internet, but I don't think the hotel can do anything about it being so remote. A great place to stay overall.

We stayed in this place because kayaks were included in the price, but there are some many other reasons to stay here! The location was very beautiful with lakeview sunsets every evening, the room was really nice with a good hammock in front, it is really relaxed and quiet during the night, the restaurant served us the best food we had since Mexico,...

It’s a gem, a property so close to the lake and yet private! We passed there on our way back from the waterfall to do a kayak tour. Only 5$ per person per hour, with life vests. They also offer river kayak tours, but best in rain season when the water level is higher. Friendly owner and beautiful views! Unfortunately, we’d already booked our accommodation elsewhere. The place really looked nice as a hotel as well!

This place is amazing. Great spot next to the lake with amazing sunsets, excellent food at good prices, friendly staff and kayaks/bikes to get around too. Heaps of options for room types. We stayed in the dorms, basic but clean and good value. Recommended.

I have to admit I was a little nervous when I arrived. It was a long bumpy ride out there and it looked like the middle of nowhere. But it ended up being very relaxing and one of my favorite parts of our trip to Nicaragua. The food was good. The staff was super helpful and attentive. The beer was extra cold. I would definitely recommend taking the kayak tour- that was our favorite part! Friendly tip, if you want to rent a motorbike to explore the island, I'd recommend renting a quad. The roads are a little rough on this part of the island.

We went on a 3 hour kayak tour with Johnathan. He spoke great English, was very polite, calm and knowledgeable. He was accommodating and able to answer questions on flora and fauna, and Nicaragua in general. Thanks for a lovely afternoon!

My husband and I stayed three nights in a cabin and had a nice time. The accommodations are rustic but clean. The food in the restaurant is good and well priced. It is a bit of a bus ride to get there if you don't have a car but it is certainly doable. All in all, it almost felt more like a homestay than anything. If you go, make sure to take the guided kayak tour of the Istiam River. Great!

We stayed here only for 1 night and we paid $20 for a room with bunk beds and a double. It is very basic with a shared bathroom. We were missing a mozzie net on the double, but when we asked they brought us one. It is right on the beach and has a nice atmosphere right in the village. You can watch everyday life..real Nicaragua. There didn't seem to be any other food options nearby so we ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the found was good. It is harder to get to, but we did take the chicken bus back around to Santa Cruz (only a couple of buses each day so make sure you ask about the schedule). The manager was very friendly. Wifi worked well and you can pay a small amount to have your water bottle refilled with filtered water. We did the kayak trip with them as well and it was an enjoyable trip, although a hard workout and the water levels in the River were very low.

Good valua for money but (all I know) the cabin is a bit overpriced. No real dissapointments. Great staff, English speaking. Great restaurant with good pricing. Wifi good. Location is fantastic right at the beach, with amazing sunset! The cabin was good, though not fantastic. The mirror was broken, soap wasnt clean and shower water did not flow away. Great overall service!
